omg I just realized this, a fan fiction called Auf Wiedersehen on Wattpad has a few of the same similarities to this it takes place mostly in Italy in the countryside, the couple in the story are gay, and one is blonde and the other is a brunette and that's it I think since I have not seen the movie nor have I read the book. The characters are based of the personified countries from an anime called Hetalia. Oh and one last thing it takes place during the time of WWll but ends at the conclusion of the Cold War.

The peach scene was incredible. It's hilarious at first but when Elio embraced Oliver and cried, I don't want you to go. It's heartbreaking. They shot a scene where Oliver actually ate the violated peach. I think it's nicer because it shows how he accept Elio with all his quirks. But that didn't make the cut. unfortunatelly.

I watched this movie and the trailer the first shots of the movie are statues and they're just beautiful this focus is a lot on art it's an artistic movie with a beautiful setting it doesn't much rely on what time it's set in it relies on a story of love and cinematography is amazing

Its an incredibly moreish universe. there's room for a journey even though the film felt pretty cut and dry. If there's a sequel, I hope the actors return and it gets the attention, script and budget it deserves. It'd be nice to see a happy ending.

another boring, artistic, pedophilia riddled, gay movie. great. don't we have enough of these already? i thought it couldn't get any worse than carol, but i've been proven wrong. when are we gonna get more movies like but i'm a cheerleader?

Even though the ending shook my heart away, I don't want a sequel. Idk the sadness made the movie more realistic and not those happy ending shite, because not all people have happy endings in their life especially in their first love.

I'm just so thankful to Netflix Philippines for having this available on stream. This broke me many times and it feels amazing. I sometimes would check every now and then new people being drawn to this masterpiece.
reply

Oh God! In the sequel, Oliver already married and has a wife. I think I'm going to cry from the beginning until end of the movie. Even the book itself tells that there is no happy ending between Oliver and Elio.

This movie is just so perfect, beautiful, amazing, heart achingly beautiful. Now my heart and mind is in conflict as to whether we want the sequel for this or not.

Did anyone read the book? I want to know how it ended in the book, because it's about 15 years later. Did they meet again? Did Elio marry? I want to know how it looked like.

Movies like these make me believe that it is not mandatory to have high budget and big Hollywood names and action sequences to make a oscar worthy film.
