They can act, but they definitely can't sing. From Tom Cruise to Emma Watson to Cameron Diaz, there are plenty of film actors who can't carry a tune. MsMojo counts down the top worst singing performances in movie musicals. Need to scratch that musical itch?

Wait a sec. Where's Sweeney Todd (2007? Helena Bonham Carter is an outstanding actress, but should not have been allowed to make meat pies of Stephen Sondheim's work. Was she sleeping with the director or something? (Yesvery much so. She and Tim Burton had their second child together the year the film was released) And I love Alan Rickman (R. I. P) with all my heart: he had one of the greatest speaking voices but could not sing. The big surprise came from Sacha Baron Cohenhe has some decent pipes on him. Johnny Depp was also more or less up to the task, but we know he's a musician and singer. Neither of them would likely be able to belt it out on Broadway, but they probably haven't trained in that style of singing, so I won't say for sure that they can't. (Also it's been a while since I subjected myself to that movie. I just know that they were more than acceptable casting choices)

Ok. Gonna own up, I'm tone deaf. But a lot of these don't seem so bad. I feel like Emma Watson's auto-tuning is somehow a lot more evident in this than the move (Which I admit I've seen more than a few times) or in the OST. And Repo! Really wasn't that bad, except for Paris. but I'm pretty sure the character is supposed to sound bad. I dunno. It just feels like a lot of these aren't really as bad as they're being made out to be (with a few glaring exceptions, admittedly, but still.

Don't agree, You can't compare someone who is a trained singer and someone who has learned how to sing for a specific role.
-- Neither lee marvin or clint easwood were known for their singing. They wanted rustic realism of of a prospector, the movie was not about the music.
-- Emma watson also not a vocalist, she had to learn how to sin for this movie.
-- phantom of the opera, the guy is a bass-baritone, the note he hit Is at the top of his range.

These are not really bad singing performances. Not everyone song has to sound studio quality especially when they are acting through the song. The problem with this is there is a lot of comparing between how this person portrayed the role vs. this person. There are different portrayals of a character and just because you like one version better than the other doesn't mean the latter was bad.

I think everybody know this after watching the video, but i also want to point it out.
Ms. Mojo doesn't know what a bad singing is, she doesn't even have a musical ear i guess, and i can say it because most of these picks are awesome, low and strong voices, like russell crowe in Les Mis and Butler in The phantom of the opera

I am in complete shock that Lucille Ball was not Number One!
Here was an actress whose ENTIRE career was based on her complete inability to sing. ESPECIALLY when she was married to Big Band heartthrob Desi Arnaz.
Then, she did Mame. A part that reintroduced us to the brilliance of Dame Angela Lansbury!

The only one I agree with is Gerard Butler due to several moments that were pretty bad tho ironically this video didn't actually show the really bad parts. I agree because Eric (The Phantom) is supposed to have the perfect tenor. The rest were fine or the rougher edges informed character.
reply

The only one that was truly bad were Clint Eastwood, Russell Crow and Peirce Brosnon. Everything else the movies might have been bad ( excluding Rock of Ages, Mama Mia and Beauty and the beast ) the singing itself was good. this was not a very good list.
reply

Russell Crowe was so flat in the singing parts, the first thing I did getting home from watching the movie was put on the Les Miserables 10th Anniversary Dream Cast DVD so I could hear Philip Quast sing those songs correctly. Now that's Javert.
reply

Paint your wagon and. Les Miz songs were sung just like they were suppose to be. Lee Marvin and Clint Eastman werent suppose to be good singers. I think they did great. also Russell Crowe. I dont agree w/ you at all. In fact Im unsubscribing!
reply

I'm sorry, but Pierce Brosnan was no worse than Colin Firth in Mamma Mia. They both looked great, though. The only one of the adults who could really sing was Christine Baranski. (I haven't seen the sequel. I assume Cher is great)
reply

Totally agree about Watson, Butler and Crow. They are horrible as singer (Emma is also awful as an actress. Some people need to clear their ears and forget about their love to the actors and learn to analyse without bias. Sorry

Why did you show his face! Your gonna spoil it for everyone who hasn't seen this! Also, I think Gerard has a great voice, he just has to learn to use it. His voice is better than Russell Crowe's, that's for sure.

reply

Im sorry, but Marlon Brando does just fine in Guys and Dolls, maybe not the smoothest voice, but his voice was perfect for the character he played. Plus, how does one ever dis Marlon Brando? Sacrelig I say!
reply

I feel like Gerard Butler's voice kind of fits the character. His voice isn't perfect and it has a roughness to it, and the Phantom's personality is the same way. Just my opinion.
reply

I thought Gerard Butler wasn't THAT bad as the Phantom. I actually liked him. I honestly always Michael Crawford's was always annoying and poor Phantom. Not intimidating at all.
reply

Russell Crowe didn't really understand the character of Javert. Javert is a very complex character who is the antagonist of the story, but is not the villain.
reply

I loved emma watsons voice, but I also love her so I might be biased. I thought it was sweet and cute for Belle. I do think they edited her a little much though
reply

Yall are straight tripping. Some of these folks are singing fine. You need to hire a new Fiverr announcer or robot voice, cus youve lost the plot, dawg.
reply

Its Funny a local theater Just DidLee miserable and the person in that Play that exact same roleWas a highschooler and he was better than That actor
reply

Is Pierce Brosnan a good singer? No, absolutely not
But also, its god damn Mamma Mia, so it doesnt matter, as long as it stays fun (which it does)

reply

I literally yelled when I saw Gerard Butler on #2
He is no Ramin Karimloo. But damn Gerard's portrayal made me fall in love with the ghost

reply

Stop Tom Cruise was amazing Ms MOJO said Tom couldn't portray the emotion that has nothing to do with his singing. He sang really well
reply

Ok cameron diaz actually did good in annie like i still listen to her characters solo song and here nothing wrong with it
reply

no no no no no no no no no no no javert sounds kinda like a robot. javert is just following orders. its fitting and kinda cool.
reply

I think Emma Watson has a lovely voice. If they had wanted Paige O'Hara to do the live action movie, they should have cast her.
reply

Not understanding why these people are termed as terrible singers. They gave it their all. I actually liked Lee Marvin's singing
reply

Gerard Butler only had 4 vocal lessons before Phantom! That is amazing! He actually sounds so amazing and full in his singing.
reply

Emma Watson. bloody hell, I had to watch this with my daughter, I bought for her on bluray and she said Dadda old one please
reply

Gerard Butler did a great job for not being trained in singing, so you have to give him a whole lot more credit than you did.
