Top 5 Reasons Sharpay Isn\'t the Villain of High School Musical If they really had to make Sharpay an antagonist (because her character development was actually the most interesting part of the three movies for me, they could have at least given her less of a villainous air around her.
You see, back at the first movie, I think that the teacher should have given the roles of that play to Gabriela and Ryan (we all know in real life two siblings playing the role of lovers would have caused A LOT of backlash, since in the womans opinion, Ryans experience in theatre could have helped the girl develop her raw talent, and she planed to have the twins develop teaching qualities (which I think are also important for an actor, and unlike Troy, Gabriela seemed more willing to be a professional and work play a romantic part with somebody she did not have a crush on.
Sharpay could still try to discretly sabotage Gabriela, but at the same, as she also taught the girl to have more presence on stage, Sharpay would become somewhat of a role model for Gabriela, to the point she actually started to wear more appealing and fashionable clothes. And at the end of the movie, she would give the credit of her role to Sharpay.
Also, on a sidenote. That girl with glasses who plays the piano? Her character development could be to accept better the opinion of other people when receiving criticism for her work, and re-assess it just to check if she was the one on the wrong, or the critics.\r\n

I love Sharpay but she was the antagonist(which doesn't mean villain, it's the character against the main characters whom are troy and Gabriella) who does have a good heart. However, she was still selfish and entitled in the High school musical movies.
5. Yeah it was nice of her to get Troy and the others jobs and help him with his college stuff, but she pretty much did it with selfish motives.
4. That is true, but that doesn't entitle Ryan and Sharpay to leads all the time.
3. Theater kids are allowed to have other priorities/activities outside of theater. In fact, it's unhealthy to have one's life only revolve around one thing. You are right about Sharpay and Ryan being better prepared though.
2. Experience isn't the only thing that matters in theater, as long as there is also talent and good sportsmanship. Troy and Gabriella both showed good sportsmanship to Kelsi by doing the duet the way she wrote it and they proved that they are just as talented as Ryan and Sharpay. Sharpay, on the other hand, completely changed the key and tempo of the duet and literally told Kelsi rudely that because she is experienced, she has more power over the duet than the composer Kelsi. Again, Sharpay's level of experience doesn't give her the right to control how the duet goes. Experience alone doesn't guarantee anyone the lead.
1. This one is right. Which proves that she truly is good at heart.

While Sharpay does have a kind side, she was the antagonist.
#5: She gets Troy a summer job.
She only wanted Troy to get the job so she could steal him from Gabriella. She practically yelled at her mom and Fulton to get everyone except Troy fired or make them want to quit.
#4: She liked theatre before it was cool.
You are right about this one. Sharpay doesn't deserve to be ridiculed or looked at differently for liking theatre.
#3: Troy and Gabriella have other priorities.
So? It's a school play, not Broadway. They are allowed to have a life outside of theater. They managed to practice their duet while balancing their other commitments, and the only reason they were late the second time was bc of Sharpay.
#2: Sharpay has more training than Troy and Gabriella.
Experience and training isn't the only requirement/criteria in theatre. Talent also matters and Troy and Gabriella are just as talented as Sharpay, if not more. Experience and training don't natter if there's anyone else who is shown to have the appropriate talent suitable for the role. Troy and Gabriella were able to display the romantic chemistry that Ryan and Sharpay couldn't.
#1: She doesn't act like a diva.
Sharpay does have a kind side, but sge was still selfish.

5) She got him a job to try and get him to be her boyfriend when he had a girlfriend already, she tried to sabotage his other friends jobs, to make them want to quit since her mother ordered them not to be fired when they needed jobs, replaced her brother with Troy and got upset when he moved on when she is the reason he did so in the first place, almost made it so all of Ryans hard work went to waste when she made it so people who worked in the club couldnt perform, practically openly admitted to trying to steal Troy from Gabriella, the whole You dont like that I won line she said to Gabriella. Even in the third film she is trying to get Troy to be her boyfriend. She tells Troy something that is none of her business about Gabriellas scholarship opportunity, openly sabotages Troy and Gabriellas relationship in the second and third movies and treats Troys friends like something gross she just stepped on when they work at the club. How is that not evil?
4) I can see the point here.
3) I can see the point here.
2) I can see the point here.
1) She betrayed Ryan first in the second film, but other than that, I agree.
Yes she is a victim since she was upstaged by amateurs in all three films, but she isnt exactly 100% innocent either.

5: she gets the team a job
yes but there was ulterior motives behind that job, thus tainting it
4: she liked theater before it was cool
yes and she got to where she was by stepping on others, we can assume that gabrella wasnt the first time someone challenged her, not only that she also stepped on the toes of kelsey and her own brother
3: troy and gabrella have other priorities
yes and thats normal, people can have multiple intrests, but again these intrests wouldnt have collided had sharpay not changed the date on them beacuse of her propensity for stepping on others
2: sharpay has more training than troy or gabrella
yes and? nerratively that was a hurdle that had to be leaped, also in theater personality is everything, as well in school a good teacher would give others a chance to be in the lead roles
1: she doesnt act like a diva in the end
and that folks is what we call character growth, if she hadnt lost she likely would have acted like a diva
and guess what we dont really see her acting as much like a diva in the other 2 films, and in the last she is a genuinely nice person

I do like sharpay but she wasnt a victim none of them were actually villains or saints but people are a bit delusional to think she is such an angel and that Troy and gabriella were devils, they didnt actually do anything wrong, they did have other commitments but they probably wouldve made it one time to the second audition if sharpay didnt have the timing changed up, she likes being the centre of attention which is why she goes for the lead roles even though she doesnt always fit them, she just has to get the lead roles all the time, when her and Ryan auditioned for the roles in the first movie the roles were a couple and it didnt make sense as sharpay and Ryan are twins. Sharpay only got Troy a job because she wanted to get between him and Gabriella she didnt get the other wildcats jobs and was upset when they were there and tried to get them fired or made to quit except for Troy

When I was a kid I used to love Gabriella and hate Sharpay, but now I hate Gabriella and like Sharpay a lot more. Gabriella is just. so boring. But also Sharpay was still quite selfish and did put others under her boot to get her way. She is still incredibly selfish regardless of her initial intentions. Then again almost all the characters are incredibly selfish (maybe except Ryan) but they all tend to only think about themselves and drive Troy to have constant mental breakdowns during the movies. I mean what the friends did to Troy and Gabriella in the first Movie was unbelievably cruel and then all they thought about was ITS My SUmmER in the second film when they were supposed to be working? No wonder Troy has to have these mental breakdown solos. First his dad, then his friends and then his girlfriend?

The reason sharpay is a victim in the high school musical is because she is to kelisi for her music it helps her a lot, and she also gave a resume to Taylor to have Gabriella in her team, and she also helped Gabriella of the vocal exercises and she payed her to have a summer job as well, and she also was nice to rayan to have mim the star daslied award, and she also helped Chad with being connected to Troy to be friends together thats way they didnt see that in her. And she also encouraged Tory to see Gabriella have a college resume and she said that Troy to accept her honor as well. I guess they didnt see that in her thats way she needs a song of her emotional side as well.

i always see comments saying things like sharpays innocent or gabriella and troy are the real villains but in my opinion no none of them are the villains and i get they all have there own sides and points of view but how is gabriella the villain? she just sang a song and met a guy i get sharpays annoyed but that does not make gabriella the villain. i always see comments like that but like i sain NONE OF THE CHARACTERS ARE THE VILLAIN they are both good characters i get if you like sharpay but that does not mean gabriella s the villain
p. s this is my opinion its fine if you like sharpay all im saying is that none of them are the villain (:

reply

Sharpay is isnt the villain in all the high school musical movies because in the 1st one she put the same time of the audition so that Tory and Gabriella can make it on time to audition together, for the second one she paid all the willed cates to have a summer job, and she helped Tory to get cash for college, and she showed her emotional side to Tory as well, and she gave Ryan the star daisalled award as well, and for the 3rd movie she encouraged Tory about the college that Gabriella is in, and she also encouraged the willed cats to be in the play when Gabriella is isnt there as well.
reply

Her getting kelsi a job was nice but troy getting a job was part of a different thing she was doing so I kinda agree but she didn't actually get the Wildcats jobs she was mad when they got there and tried to sabotage them and make them quit
Having said that I do like sharpay one of my favorite characters and she is not the villain but like come on she was kinda mean in the second
I am not hating sharpay I like her but she had done a few things

Unfortunately, if your goals and actions are in opposition to the protagonist, you are defined as an antagonist. Whether you're right or not is irrelevant, whether you're good or bad is irrelevant. Take, for example, the movie Captain America: Civil War, I personally think Iron Man was right but because his role opposes the goal of Captain America, he was automatically the antagonist. It doesn't matter who was right.
reply

The thing I dislike about Sharpay was that she tried breaking up Troy and Gabriella because she wanted Troy, and she wanted to shove his friends out of the picture in order to have him all to herself. When you actually care about someone, you dont alienate their friends away from them, and you dont try destroying their relationship just because you want to be with them. Trying to break up a happy couple is trashy.
reply

Sharpay is honestly the villain in the movies but shes a villain that eventually matures.
In the second movie she split up Troy and Gabriella, made her wildcat classmates summer a living hell, treated her brother horribly, and made Troy very uncomfortable just to sing with him.
And I know that Sharpay gave him a great future but its not about whats good for Troy, its about what he wants for himself.

reply

When you in a situation that sharpay created Gabriella hurt both sharpay and Tory together. Thats not okay because she said you better step away from the mirror long enough to check the damage that will always will always be right behind you. In front of Tory as well thats not okay because you hurt sharpay feelings in front of Tory and then you hurt him as well. Thats not okay thats why your sharpay as well

People are out on the streets with their pitchforks calling Hailey Bieber A mEaN GiRl and a a bULlyyy and a Nepo BABY and then go and support Sharpay, saying she's innocent lmao (oh you're soo edgy and different for supporting the poor misunderstood villain: ''[. She was a privileged spoilt brat, a talented one, but still a brat. (and kind of a horrid person too) Pick a lane, sheeple.
reply

Sharpay was a super talented, driven, hard working performer who deserved every good thing coming her way because she had passion and put in the work on and off the stage. But little miss-know-it-all and her smitten jock boyfriend came in and stole everything from her. THEY were the real villains of High School Musical. Not our queen Sharpay Evans. Bless her heart.
reply

Gabriella saw a chance to be more than a science girl and she took it. Troy wasnt comfortable but he liked her so he forced himself to do it as well then ended up liking it. The older I got the more I realized how easy it was for Gabriella to bail on Troy when things werent going her way in all three movies. Like damn girl chill
reply

Something to note in regards to Sharpay helping Troy with his future. She got him the job. She got him talking with the necessary people for college and stuff. But, she knows that he loves basketball more than performing. She gets him talking about a BASKETBALL scholarship. Not a music scholarship, or major.
reply

Not to mention, I feel sorry for Sharpay because she really worked hard for her dreams and never got into Julliard. After some character development, she was happy that her brother went into Julliard instead of her but you have to admit that she wouldve still been sad and she still worked so hard.
reply

Also sharpay sang the high note at the end of high school musical in hsm 3! i dont think she was the worse than gabriella like she was potrayed to be at all! Also she could've bribed people with the money she had and gotten the part but she never did. even in her solo movie!
reply

I am probably way too serious abt how much I love Sharpay and Ryan and how they should have gotten the roles. I literally remember making a list of reasons while watching the movie, in joke. I am a performer and musicals are my life and I always thought they were superior
reply

The only villains in my opinion were Chad and Taylor lol. They never wanted anything good for Troy and Gab.
They didn't want Troy to be successful, they wanted Troy+Gab to break up, Taylor didn't like to see Gab happy.
Jeez I hate their characters

reply

Im gonna have to disagree a little in HSM2 Sharpay was trying to give Troy almost everything he wanted. Troy was literally in a relationship with gabriella and she kept intervening with that. Sharpay was definitely a home wrecker.
reply

How come blonde girls with makeup and are rich are always portrayed as the villain? After all, the parents probably worked damn hard to get so much money. She has a passion and Troy was just there to crush all her dreams.
reply

Compared to benchmark Regina George she is much nicer
However this video does not do any justice, the point raised here are not reason that she is not villan, you need go deeper in character traits then events.

reply

And let's not forget why she didn't get the scholarship. Troy didn't show up, instead the weird kid did and ruined the whole number, making Sharpay look bad in front of the scholarship people
reply

also when troy and chad stole the clothes from the guys in the locker room sharpay is the only one who didnt laugh she just looked annoyed and had a this is childish look
reply

Sharpay has never been a villian, she's an antagonist. The same way the avengers were the antagonists in infinity wars. It isn't a position with any traits attached to it.
reply

To me, HSM is one of those stories in which there really is no true hero or villain. Just a bunch of kids at odds with each other who all become closer in the end because of it
