These are the films the best depict the experience of coming to age. For this list, were looking to capture a wide variety of coming of age experiences including love, loss, hard economic times, coming to terms of what it means to navigate the world as an adult. Well be looking at the best and most diverse, not necessarily the most iconic. Were only looking at live action films, so animated movies like Persepolis wont make the cut. Want to

Does anyone know about tv series or movie about a shy high school boy. I remembered seing a funny scene where that boy visited a female doctor to check his peniss problem but he was too shy to take off his trouser. Accidentally, a group of intern doctor came to visit and he ended up devastated because he has to show his penis to all of them for study purpose. I think that boy wears kind of yellow uniform. Please let me know the title. I bet that show is funny to watch

These are by and large about the American experience of growing up. I hardly call this a representative list. What about superb classics like Pather Panchali (1959, My Life As A Dog (1985, All Things Fair (1995) and The Tree of Knowledge (1981, to name a few. Another fine addition to the list would have been Mystic Pizza (1988. Just my thoughts.

Stand By Me is such a great movie. To me, the railroad tracks they trekked on represented the journey from childhood to adulthood. In fact, this movie inspired me to take treks on the train tracks here in Austin near our first home 34 years ago.

Why are coming f age movies mostly about teenagers? When I was a teen the most coming of age I did was ordering pizza by myself and making my own dentist appointments without my moms help. We need coming of age of all ages
reply

Thats my problem, I have so many half-baked ideas, I need to start another before I even finish the 34th
I am currently working on 5+ different coming-of-age short stories, and none of them are near done.

80s domination, I am glad Stand by Me and Breakfast club and first and Second, I was hoping to see Running on Empty, but I guess they think one River Phoenix movie was enough.
reply

Would love to see a coming of age movie with a black protagonist that isnt about gang violence, police brutality or racism.
Thank yew

Perks of being a wallflower is sad I was one I never want to be wallflower again it sucks being a wallflower just be a person to dance
reply

If you like Dazed and Confused, check out Over the Edge. It was actually made in the 70s and debuts Matt Dillan. Awesome flick.

This is literally crazy how Boy N the Hood wasnt on this list or love & basket ball this list really has no diversity at all

For me, Francis Ford Coppola's The Outsiders is definitly one of the best!

How does Not Another Teen Movie not make this list, it's one of the most powerful films ever made about coming of age.
reply

Boyhood has to be number one. Actually any Linklater film has a right to be number one for a list like this imo.
reply

I am only human being that thought The perks of a wallflower was too melodramatic! And i had depression in my teens
reply

A brain, an athlete, a princess, a basket case, and a criminal. The Breakfast Club is the best movie ever.
