Top 10 Disney Movies with Historical MISTAKES

Sometimes even the House of Mouse gets facts wrong. For this list, were looking at Disney movies that dont quite get everything right when it comes to historical facts. Well be considering both live action and animated films. Weve included films like Cool Runnings, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, and Pocahontas! Really? Why make this list? We all know there is no historical facts. Disney is supposed to be fun bubbly family time. That's the whole reason why we watch Disney because it brings us happiness. Why not make a list of them sealing scenes from themselves to save money and time? Like come on. Dinsey is family fun let them be and who cares if they aren't historical accuracies. Heck carpet from Aladdin is in like five different movies or something like that. And in Hunchback of Notre Dame you can see Bell walking in the streets. And there are others but Disney is most everyone's childhood

Of course my favorite Disney movie just had to be #1
Pocahontas was only 11 when she met Smith, and never had any romantic relationship with him. But Disney herself stated that the movie is based on the legend of Pocahontas, which differs somewhat from what actually happened. And they decided that if not even historians among themselves could decide what was 100% true, they took the liberty to change and create on top of some parts of the story that were unclear. And as for the facts that were changed, they did it so the story would be more appealing (adding a Romeu and Juliet trope, lack of conflict and genocide between the Natives and the English.

For Hercules, you did not mention the myth also states that Hercules was the product of an adulterous relationship between Zeus and a common woman, which of course brought on Hera's fury, and caused her to send the snakes after Hercules when he was a baby. Hercules god-like strength-though-mortal characteristic was actually due to his status as demigod, not a magic potion. I mean, come on, I hate being _that guy_ but if you're going to do a whole top ten about inaccuracies in fictional kids' movies, let's not leave anything out.

No Newsies? As much as I love it, the newsboy strike was completely inaccurate in its portrayal. I had to research Pulitzer in college and was surprised with how much good he did for Journalism considering the vilification he undergoes in that movie. The Hunchback mistake should have been an honorable mention and Newsies put in its place on this list, as you don't even explain very much about what was a mistake, you just show clips of the movie instead.

With the greatest classics of Disney now being brought to real-life/CGI, I wonder I Disney will make them regarding some of historical mistakes. For exemple, if we come to have Pocahontas in real-life, will they do it basing on the film (where she and John Smith fall in love) or the real facts? And with Hercules, will they make him son of Hera too or have a mortal mother? Also, will Hera be the villain with Hades?

7. How did the relationship with Travers and Disney end?
6. This makes sense.
5. I have not seen this movie in years.
4. Kind of figured that out.
3. That is sad about Hercules killing his family.
2. I kind of figured that the Great Wall hadnt been built yet.
1. This has been mentioned in other videos,

Honestly growing up with Disney, yes as a child (born in 1990, I didn't care if they were accurate. I wanted an entertaining story, which Disney knows how to do. Many of Disney older movies have no accuracy in them, like some do today like Moana for example. But they are mainly for children who just want to watch a movie and have a happy time.
reply

There are historical mistakes in Disney movies, but there are also blatant historical mistakes in this video itself. For example, whoever wrote the script didn't understand what life expectancy means. Life expectancy factors in infant mortality rates so a life expectancy below 40 does NOT mean that most adults died before the age of 40.
reply

Because I know I totally want the actual age gap (at least 40 years) and actual events (rape) surrounding Pocahontas and John Smith in a movie intended for children. Seriously, this list shouldn't even exist. Kids movies are where you should just throw historical accuracy out and focus on the message in the movies at face value.
reply

And if you want to go further with Pocahontas, going by the customs of her people (the Powhatan) at the time, as a child she would have not worn any clothing. Also, some reports say that the real Captain John Smith was actually short, ugly, and not very popular with the men under his command.

Here is another: The Emperor's New Groove. Yes, I know it's just a wacky comedy like Aladdin, but think about it. It is based on the time of the Incas, and they were a fascinating civilization, but they didn't have a lot of the things depicted in the movie ( they also Westernized most of it.
reply

I'd rather make stories have a happy ending instead of being related to history.
At least Disney didn't want to upset a younger audience. Besides, this is Disney we're talking here.
They end their versions of these stories THEIR way. Sorry, I have autism. I understand simple things.

reply

Wouldn't YOU want to change the story into YOUR version? Take Romeo and Juliet for example: they died in Shakespeare's tragedy, but in animated versions, they live in the end. Again, I'm sorry. I know this is about the stories' history, but still I like stories that end so happily.
reply

To be fair, the Disney animators admitted that they based Pocahontas off of the legend surrounding the historical account rather than actually basing it on a true story.
Regardless, I still love Pocahontas and it's still one of my most favorite Disney animated film of all time.

reply

Sooo. you show that whole clip with Quasimodo climbing that spire that historically didn't exist in his time. and the example you pick is the accuracy of the movie's Disney Acid Sequence that can easily be explained by Quasimodo's creativity?
Kay. You do you, boo.

reply

yeah, also hercules wasnt born to zeus and hera and then stripped of his god status, he was born from one of zeuss many affairs. then he met meg, had kids with her. later hera, who was really jealous, drove hercules to insanity and only then he went on his twelve labors
reply

This list is garbage. Why? Because you're forgetting the fact that Disney PURPOSELLY changed it to make it FAMILY FRIENDLY. Why would anyone let their kids watch the actual truth of what happened in those times? Oi. This list can burn. Bye.
reply

Secretariat should have been on this list. The race calls used in the movie (and even the whole Belmont race depicted in the movie) is completely inaccurate. There was also an affair in there, but I can see why that wasnt included.
reply

Although I do agree (as I did a paper on Pocahontas in college) I do have to point out that not much was known about Pocahontas when she was alive. Although the facts you mentioned were correct.

R. I. P. Jerry Orbach
R. I. P. Tony Jay (Judge Frollo) and David Ogden Stiers (The Archdeacon) Disney's The Hunchback Of Notre Dame an amazing disney movie about the music and disney animation

reply

Of course Disney being Disney and changing stories to be more family friendly. Because let's face it. Had they fine with, for example Hercules stories, then there would've been allot complaining.
reply

Ok
I absolutely hate when people rag on Hercules for being inaccurate
Like, no shit. Ain't no Disney animated movie gonna add in every insane shit that happens in mythology

reply

I know that Hunchback of Notre Dame's a fictional story, but it still bothers me how Quasimodo can talk in the movie when he's deaf/mute from living with the bells in the book.
reply

The thing that bothers me the most about Hercules it's not the happily ever after, it's the fact that they mixed roman and greek gods! NOOOOO they should keep one and develop.
reply

R. I. P. Tony Jay (Judge Frollo) and David Ogden Stiers (The Archdeacon) Disney's The Hunchback Of Notre Dame an outstanding disney film about the music and disney animation
reply

If they included all of those issues for African Americans in the Princess and the Frog, then the movie wouldve faced severe backlash from critics and civil rights groups.
reply

No 6: if life expectancy is around 40, doesnt mean everyone died around forty. Its an average and a lot of children died early. So old people excisted around that time
reply

#9: Rags like that wouldn't be in fashion for at least another fifty years, and Phoebus' sword and armor went out of style one hundred years previous to the setting!
