Usually if someone has seen friends back then, watching anything else wouldn't be as pleasing as friends to them, but I've guys who have watched for example how i met you mother, before watching friends, and the now love it more than friends. Both good tv series, but you always have to remember, if friends didn't exist, there would be no how i met your mother. It's been inspired by friends in many ways, i mean c'mon Barney is basically Chandler who makes fun of stuff and no one knows what is he's job and in the other hand he is alsom joey trying to hook up with many girls. After all i watched how i met your mother and i never could love Barney, and Robin. In some seasons Robins character were completely different

I watched himym and friends but yeah honestly speaking except certain things it was not too similar. It was different and had character development. Ted Mosby was better than Ross Geller and helped his friends Robin Marshall and Barney to grow and Robin Schrebatsky is not Rachel. Robin was blend of Phoebe and Rachel and Lily belongs to Monicha trope but she did have her unique thing. Yeah I do credit friends for creating a new formula but himym made best use of the formula and gave their own touch. While friends made idea of sitcoms HIMYM took it to next level.

Himym is better than FRIENDS. They have much indepth character development. The music is awesome, they have multiple moments when you feel a flow of emotions, how they connect certain dots from each event is exceptional, it's more realistic and many more reasons. Even if HIMYM is a FRIENDS 2. 0 it's an upgrade then.
FRIENDS has this nostalgic touch to it and people talk about it a lot more. Also the way HIMYM ended maybe dented it's reputation.

As a fan of FRIENDS I don't think there is any rip-off I think that every show is a unique in it's own way. Also I won't call any show a rip-off I will rather call the inspiration. Do you even know what's a rip-off example Boy meets world's rip-off it's Girl meets world. Rip-off is the second name for spin-off and to have a rip-off is to have a same creators, producers, etc.
I disagree with anything on this list.

Queen Latifah was interviewed on a show called watched what happens live. The clip is Queen Latifah on a Living Single comeback. She said, Warren Littlefield President of NBC was asked which of the new shows would he want to have on NBC and he said Living Single. 13 months later after Living Single premiered Friends premiered on NBC. Enough said.

Why is it that a sitcom about a group of 20 somethings hanging out together are always considered a rip-off of Friends? Most, not all, of these are pretty different.
Big bang theory is a perfect example. I am surprised it's on this list. I don't t see any similarities to friends besides that there are 2 apartments across the hall from eachother.

HIMYM copied FRIENDS so much that theres even one episode where the actress who played Janice appeared on it
(BTW I love them both. And I dont think we should make a big deal about creations inspired by other creations, I mean, weve been doing this since the beginning of time. [wasnt Romeo and Juliette a copy of Thisbe and Piramo? ])

The fact that you can make this many comparisons proves that shows like Friends are nothing new. They're nothing special. Even Living Single didn't do it first (since I constantly hear Oh Friends ripped off Living Single like we haven't had shows about adults trying to navigate through love and life since the beginning lol.

I mean you can also argue that Friends ripped off other shows but if you really want to talk about shows that ripped off friends, HIMYM is the biggest culprit. Still a good show though.
No doubt that Friends is classic but Rules of Engagement has made dying when I watch it. The husbands hilarious one liners make the show.

I wouldnt necessarily say that they are rip offs I mean its inspired by friends 100% but isnt that how things are started meaning a certain style of comedy has to start some way friends basically started that style of comedy, inspiring all these shows. I didnt see rip offs of friends not a single one

I love Friends and they will always be at the first position bu Big Bang Theory is the best. It had more viewers than HIMYM and each character had a background and you could see their progress through years. Humor is just epic and the acting of all actors is much more challenging than HIMYM

Living single aired 1993 and had 5 seasons, friends aired 1994, there's no way friends ripped off the show maybe just the theme.
Other shows ripped of friends in more ways than just the theme, even the storylines, jokes, characters and ending.

Friends was a whitewashed rip off of Living Single without any of the actual character depth or growth. It was made because the creators of Living Single refused to sell the show to NBC, so NBC took all the foundational concepts from Living Single and Friends.

After watching how i met your mother, i felt like in some areas they did better than friends. Although new girl is bit more on cliche and on times loose the flow but the way it balances and even spreads out whole plot just makes sense. I love both of them.
