'80s VS '90s: Which Decade Was Better?

Which decade do you prefer? The 1980s or the 1990s? Thats easy! The 80s! Hands down!
And not a very popular opinion but as a person born in 1992, the 90s ARE the same as today in many ways. But for the most part they are quite different, particularly politically, technologically, socially and economically.
2023 is different enough from 1993 or even 2003.
2003 and 1993 are LITERALLY identical when compared to now (2023. Im refering to music, clothing, hair, decor, style, etc. But yes, COMMERCIALLY they were different for the most part but nonetheless ARE the same if you discount certain elements that could ONLY exist in 2003 and NOT 1993, such as DVDs and widespread internet access. Just like how 1953 and 1963 were identical.
The 90s era goes from 1993 to 2003 or even 1989 to 2003. Even 1989 is identical to 1993 and 2003, or somewhat similar to today (2023.
Although 1993 and 2003 are in reality far away from being completely equal (in most cases, they are usually close and in some cases indistinguishable. Same is true for 1953 and 1963, which was the 50s era.
Cultural eras are arbitrary/opinion-based categories because we can literally group things into year ranges based on our thoughts regarding to what we see and hear from the past (things such as music, hair, clothes, decor, etc. Such change is gradual, which would take years or even decades to evolve. I like to group things in fairly broad ranges.
The 80s (up to about early 1993) are the last era to have a real old feel to it. The 90s (minus the first 3 or 4 years of the decade) dont really carry the same recognizability that the 80s and earlier do though certainly there is a lot that has changed, especially economically, politically and technologically.
At some point, the 90s will appear quite dated (even though dated is in the eye and ear of the beholder, some people already think so but I beg to differ. Maybe Im being a little closed-minded here but as a 1992 baby, the 80s and before are old and I love them and the 90s are new and not as loveable (except in certain regards.
Of course, disliking a decade is silly and I definitely dont dislike the 90s but rather view them as being very similar to today minus certain things like politics, economics, and technology. I dont mean to offend anyone in any way. People, either those who remember or just know, will have different opinions regarding cultural eras, such as the 90s.
I already gave my definition of the 90s in terms of stylistic design and year range.
Objectively, as a decade, the 90s went on from 1990 to 1999. Thats a fact right there.
To be fair, the CLOSEST to the 90s being historical would be no later than early 1993. The late 80s/early 90s (late 1986 to early 1993) are only MODERATELY different from today but they are more the same as now than the mid 80s and earlier are (mid 1986 and earlier.
1992, most of my birth year, is different enough because it was still like the 80s but they are similar enough to today because its arguably when we wont see any MAJOR changes in our wardrobe, music, hair, etc. at any time soon. Im sorry but the 1990s are as modern as youre gonna get.
If I had a time machine and pulled a man and woman from 1992 and put them into todays world, theyre not going to look so anachronistic as, say, someone from 1892 would. The 90s (1990s) are NOT old enough!
The 80s and earlier are ARCHAIC but the 90s are absolutely MODERN.\r\n

The 1990s was a decade where pop culture took flight, we all made some Friends, dance moves were born and fast-food got even bigger. Although they ended more than 20 years ago, some of these American icons remain just as relevant today.
The 90s were a decade that introduced exciting new technology, some great music, movies, and television, as well as some truly unique fashion trends. . The 90s were a pivotal period of time in pop culture that we can all look back fondly on (well, for the most part)

80's had classics in music, film and television. But that's because having access to different entertainment was limited. So it was almost forceful to what you took in for entertainment. 90's was an era of decisions on a vast variety of genres of music, television etc. Technology was booming in the 90's not to to the point it took over our lives. Who didn't love biking with your friends to rent a movie or a game. nostalgic. Flash to 2022. yes its during a pandemic which was bound to happen eventually. But now you can work from home and you literally could stay in your house all year without having to leave or interact face to face with anyone. These days we are more connected than ever but as for human contact we are drifting father part. There is no debate here 80's/90's were the bomb and we really got to live through such technological advances but yet still have connections through human interactions. Blessed to have been a part of both!

Pop culture really became a thing in the 80s and the 90s certainly had a ton of its own. Both decades created some of the best ips that still exist to this day! No need to pick one! Both had incredible styles and hair! Looking back now, it feels as if the 90s was the end of anything different in the world of fashion. EXAMPLE! If you see bell-bottoms, you will immediately think of the 70s, if you see Jordan 1s (especially the banned color way) you will think of the 80s, and if you see jeans that cover your entire shoe, you will think of the 90s. Yes, the early 2000s had some fashion things too I suppose but they feel like were just things lingering from the 90s. Can anyone think of fashion things that will stick out from the 2010s? How about early in the 2020s? When the 90s came to an end, so did anything unique or different, or fun. Hahaha

Don't forget the Disney movie craze that may have started in the 80s (Fox and the Hound, Tron, The Black Cauldron, The Great Mouse Detective, Oliver & Company, The Little Mermaid, and Honey I Shrunk the Kids) but the 90s babies thrived and grew up on on these classics: Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Newsies, The Might Ducks, Cool Runnings, Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Lion King, The Santa Clause, Toy Story, Pocahontas, A Goofy Movie, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Flubber, Hercules, George of the Jungle, Air Bud, A Bug's Life, Mulan, Halloweentown, and Tarzan.

I wish I could live in the 80s, from what I heard from my mom, the 80s was an amazing time. You got to walk the streets by yourself without worrying about getting kidnapped. (I know kidnapping was there, this is just what my mom said) They had amazing hairstyles, & amazing music. Lets not forget the tv shows and horror movies! Finally, the most important thing is that the world didnt revolve around electronic devices, (meaning: they didnt rely on their phones for all the entertainment)

1980's easily.
Music was far more diversified with political turmoil in ColdWar Ending tensions (Reagan/Thatcher, Madonna a leftist rebelled against the republican side, other minorities rose creating such a great mix of types of music.
Movies were becoming sagas, bigger budgets, more interests in various genres expanded (especially science fiction) and boom time.

Some 80s is okay the entire rock genre of the 80s was trash. Screw guys dressing like chick's they started the problem we have now. Almost every to do with the 80s is garbage. The only thing the 80s did right was star wars. But the music every year before and after the 80s did everything better but today is complete garbage as well as the 80s.
reply

Both wonderfull times. The best movies are from both the 80s and 90s. All the music i listen to are mostly from 70s-2000 people where happier then and had more hope. Today everyone run on pills and the feeling is gone. They both where good but i think the 80s had a little more feeling of that everything is possible.

90s for me I was born in 1986 and missed the early 80s the 90s were more interesting in everything even in crime Waco, hevens gate, death of Selena, oj, gianni versace, and princess Diana's death the biggest one of all so I'll stay with the 90s the 80s probably hade good crime to but the 90s were better.

To be honest, I was born in 1985 but I mostly enjoyed life in the 90's. But one thing will always ring true: the trends of the 90's wouldn't have been possible without the foundations set by the 1980'sand those decades are really great despite their own nuances or idiosyncracies.
reply

The 80's were AMAZING-so much fun! The 90s were actually really depressing. Everybody was wearing beige and brown, or grunge stuff, and Tupac, Biggie, and Kurt Cobain died. Very morose time, which is why there's not as much nostalgia for it as for the 80s.
reply

Which decade do you prefer?
The 80's, by miles.
The 90's where only good up untill mid 90's, then it started to go down hill.
Of couse i'm mainly talking about music, the most important subject to me, the the feeling if the same for all the rest.

reply

90s because we still have everything the 80s has but even more cool things were coming out. Cool movies better quality tv. THE INTERNET! Hello? Final Fantasy 7, Sonic the hedgehog. Games were getting bigger and better music was still hot.
reply

Born in 82 I would have to say the 90s were easier going times. Overall the movies and TV shows much better. The music about a tie. The 90s overall was an easier time to live in but the 80s was more nostalgic. That's my final assessment
reply

I got so offended when she said that when you think of 90s movies you think of Steven Spielberg. Yes he had some good movies in the 90s but he is more associated with the 80s. I'm so glad the 80s girl mentioned that.
reply

Television 90s Buffy the vampire slayer
Movies 90s Titanic, Scream 1 and 2, I know What you did last summer 1 and 2, Whitney Houstons The Bodyguard.
Music 90s Nirvana and Whitney Houston-Ill always love you.

reply

Didn't grow up in any of the decades but if i should choose it would be the 80s because of the sports, music and rise of horror movies and innovative inventions. Not forget the fashion and hairstyles.
reply

I preferred 80s Wham! - Last Christmas, was better than mariah 'All iwant for Christmas', until this day! and so many artist cover the Wham, but nothing beat the original, by the way: 80s all the way!
reply

Ive lived through both. The 80s were more fun pop culture wise, but economically speaking, its the 90s by a mile! Especially the late 90s. Id take Bill Clinton over Ronald Reagan too.
reply

80s england best. Being free to run around from 7 to 15 was ace. 90s got better as they got to the middle years. 2000 England was the start of dumming down to imbecile levels
reply

The 80's is my favorite, because of
80's Metal, Michael Jackson and MTV. The 80's fashion and trends are the best. Nothing can top that
decade and MJ's Thriller.

reply

80s for sure. so much of my childhood was spent in the 90s but we still lived in the 80s. the 90s is just the 80s with less hair flair and more dumb shit music
reply

The 80s wins when it comes to Music and Movies but the 90s wins when it comes to TV Shows. But both decades were the golden age of Music, TV Shows and Movies.
reply

born in the 80's but grew up in 90's which means I'm all about 90's even though the reinassance era is a huge part for movies there so it didn't really matter
reply

For me, the 80's was and is the best decade aside from the 70's.
As for the 90's, this was the decade where everything stalled. came to a halt. Period.

reply

I say the 80s without the 80s there wouldn't be any 90s I'm a late 80s baby but those times are much better than today's time stuff went down hill
