Not even gonna recognize Casey Junior, the circus train that is seen in the 1941 version of Dumbo. He has a big change in the 2019 remake as well. While the remake makes note that the circus does travel by train much like in the original version, the lead engine, Casey Jr, is more realistic so to speak. He is a 4-4-0 American type locomotive rather then his 2-4-0 variant, and he's not sentient and can't say all aboard, lets go! ' through his whistle like in the 1941 version. Instead he has a grill in the front of his boiler with two lamps in place of his eyes and he even has a little number board where his nose would be. His color scheme gives a nod to the brave engineer's engine as they share a similar shade of blue, and 2019 Casey's number also nods to the original Dumbo's release year, being 41. The entire circus train in the 2019 remake also has a change in both rail-car designs and colors, and placement along the train. The song in the live action film doesn't have singers like in the original film, but it too makes a nod towards Casey's theme when he rushes into the tunnel, as an instrumental version of the first two verses of the original song can be heard, along with when Casey pull's to a stop at the very end.

Most express misgivings toward Disney's trend in remaking their animated classics for a new format, which in one sense, given the respect for the classics made in Walt's time, is understandable. But that is not to say that all remakes are terrible, and I personally think how they pulled off Dumbo with a more realistic twist came out quite well. Personally though I'd think it would have been potentially-possible for Casey Junior to have been portrayed with logistic anthropomorphism - i. e. Thomas the Tank Engine - and serve as the alternate means to Timothy the Mouse in bridging plot points in the remake. Samuel F.

Am I the only one who is majorly disappointed in how the movie actually turned out. They completely took out every single seen that made the original movie what it was. The snobby elephants, the crows? And the biggest let down of the movie was the pink elephant scene. I was extremely disappointed. I hadnt seen the movie but had watched the old movie, and decided to take a peek at the 2019 pink elephant parade. What I found was extremely upsetting. I do not plan on watching the dumbo movie. I also HATE what they replaced the mouse with those two kids, what a waste

I'll take the original. Great (subjextive, yes, but overwhelmingly dominant and richly DESERVED praise for Dumbo 41) songs and animation, and, pardon me for beating this to death, 63 minutes. much shorter. making Mary POPPINS RETURNS its much longer lenght works for a sequel to a slightly longer (or any FANTASIA one, that is Disney's oldest two-hour)

I know what else changed, the train. In the animated 1940's it looks as if the train has a mind of its own. Making it look like its alive. In the new 2019 reboot however dosent seem to be alive. Its just an ordinary locomotive with a face for reference in the animated movie.

There's also one character you forgot to place in number 4, Casey Jr. Cause the cartoon version, the train alive with personality and voice talk like a whistle. In the live action, just a simple train with a face and no character shown in the movie.

The Crows song is one of the things I remember from my childhood Disney time.
So they changed the entire movie, characters and music, storyline and sprinkles some feminism in the movie?
This is a question, not a statement so behave

I like the crows and the in-joke of naming one of them Jim Crow, which must have flown in the old racists face. But I see why they were omitted. Apart from being controversial they wouldnt add to the plot.

I would want to consider a remake of 101 Dalmatians where the animals do talk, the same way as The Jungle Book. And consider remaking some of their animated movies into completely different genres.

This film, like Cinderella, Aladdin and Mulan, respected its animated counterpart but was also its own film in its own right, truely one of the best live action reimaginings that we've seen to date

This lacks all the charm, whimsy and humor of the original Dumbo. I'm especially cheesed off by Disney not including singing versions of some of the movie's best songs (like Pink Elephants)

The only thing that i hate about the remake is how they delete timothy from the script.
Other than that it's so beautiful. I love both films. And their respecting ending.

Dumbo doesnt get the respect it deserves. Such an underrated film. Dumbo is such an underrated character. Poor little Dumbo. I want him included in Disney faves.

I think the crows were left out because they are incredibly racist characters, considering the main crow is named Jim Crow(although they could've just renamed him.

A film should not reflect the times in which is made. This film, despite taking place in the same times as the previous one, keeps shouting 2019

I loved this movie, and I loved the changes. It was a more fleshed out version. And I LOVED the new ending, I thought it was perfect!

I dont mind all these changes, because with them, this remake was at least creative, compared to The Lion King and Aladdin.

At 8: 56, the answer to that question is No. Dumbo and his mom were shipped to Asia. The Lion King takes place in Africa.

So no four elephants, crows, or even Timothy? There's only half a story. Seems more depressing and dark. Yup, that's Tim Burton.
