These live-action Disney songs are just as spellbinding as the Mouse Houses animated numbers. Were taking a look at the catchiest, most magical, and most iconic musical numbers from live-action Disney movies. To qualify for this list, the song must actually be sung within the movie. MsMojo ranks the greatest live-action Disney songs. Whats your favorite live-action Disney song?

I don't agree with the Last Midnight pick. I love the song and the musical but unlike the rest of the picks on this list, it comes from a musical that was not written for Disney. It's simply Disney's rendition, and it's an awesome portrayal of the musical, but it's not a Disney song. I think that My Name is James from James and The Giant Peach would have been a better pick because the song was written for a film produced by Disney (the song is not in novel the movie is based off of) making it an actual Disney original song. I also am surprised Crowning Glory from Princess Diaries 2 was not on this list.

When I was growing up I listened to different Disney CDs, one of them had the song Are We Dancing and it was the only song on any of those CDs that I didn't recognize, I forgot about it for a long time until I saw this list weeks ago. I'm happy that I now know where that song came from and I plan to watch the movie soon.
Edit: Also, MsMojo missed the chance to make a Beatles reference when talking about this song.

As good as movie musicals are, they are kind of unrealistic. In those movies, if you break into a song and dance routine in public, everyone will sing along, and somehow, everyone you know carries a tune. In real life, if you break into a song and dance routine in public, people will think you're crazy, and there's a very high chance that everyone knows at least one person that doesn't carry a tune.

My God, I was 46 years old when High School Musical came out! So no, I don't actually pre-date Disneyland (1955. but its close! So I'm from the Carousel-Showboat-Gypsy-Sound of Music era. You know, when musicals had real lyrics and real tunes and real dancing and a real script. Thanks for the #1 nudge, Ms. Mo'!

No songs from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Probably because all of the songs except for The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down (Eddie's Song) are sung by the toons, not by the live-action humans.
Also, as much as I LOVE Man Or Muppet, I would've put Life's A Happy Song on the list instead.

I agree with everything on this list except two of them: 1)Evermore deserves more than just an honorable mention! And 2)Where The Lost Things Go from Mary Poppins Returns should have been on here as well! It was the one nominated for best original song at the Oscars!
reply

I would've liked Substitutiary Locomotion/Treguna Mekoides from Bedknobs and Broomsticks to have at least gotten an honorable mention. But I am appeased with the honorable mention of Whale of a Tale from 20, 000 leagues and Portobello Road from Bedknobs and Broomsticks also.

How many people teared up when Candle On The Water played? I know I did. And yay for Newsies! I was only 9 when that movie came out and still know the words to most of the songs! Are we dancing hit a chord with me to. Yeah I get it. Call me old fassion or something. :)
reply

To be fair, even hardcore Newsies fans acknowledge My Lovey Dovey Baby deserves that Razzie. No surprise it didnt make it to the stage remake. But songs like Seize the Day, Carrying the Banner, Santa Fe, King of New York, prove it was great music overall.

Enchanted always gives me hope that life can turn into a Disney movie Love it, and Mary Poppins so much!
But I strongly believe Evermore from Beauty and the Beast shouldve actually been on the list, not an honourable mention!

reply

I cant believe that Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins wasnt even mentioned. That song is the best Mary Poppins song and arguably the best song in the entire Disney music library. It was Walts favorite song as well.
reply

It's been about 13 years since High School Musical was my everything, but I can still sing all the songs off by heart
Oh, and 'the climb' is still golden and makes my inner 7 year old cry

reply

Surprised Muppet Treasure Island didn't make the list or at least Honorable Mention. Tim Curry has an amazing voice. though I am happy that the Muppet Christmas Carol was there at least.
reply

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah should have made the list. It's an Oscar-winning classic and better than all of the songs listed (though Mary Poppins had some superior songs that didn't make the list.
reply

I thought I was the only one who was obsessed with Petes Dragon! Still know every word
Omg and The Muppets!
Omg AND The Muppet Christmas Carol
OMG LIN MANUEL MIRANDA IM IN LOVE

reply

Even though I didn't really love any of Enchanted's songs, I do think the movie is grossly underrated. It was such a creative and entertaining idea! But hardly anyone remembers it.
reply

The song Zip -A-Dee-Doo-Dah is a great song. Who cares if the movie it's in didn't age well? The song aged just fine. It shouldn't be excluded just because of the movie it was in.

A Thankful Heart, The Climb and the Last Midnight are my favorite songs and a big shot out to Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, for making it's way into my childhood heart.

At our college we have a talent show and one of the professors preformed Man or Muppet. He had a little puppet as well. Probably the funniest act of the whole show.
reply

We're All In This Together isn't what I heard it repeatedly back in elem. Taylor Swift's Love Story is THE MOST REPEATED SONG in St. Therese Private School.
reply

Great list Emily, how ever I think you have overlooked the 1999 version of Annie with Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Kathy Bates & Audra McDonald.
reply

Love Mary Poppins, but Im kinda wondering, is the song Lets go fly a kite underrated? Because its a great song, but doesnt have much recognition.
reply

I was in a Mary Poppins play when I was young, so I'm a bit biased, but I feel like there should have been more Mary Poppins songs on the list.
reply

Agony in Into The Woods was the most ridiculed song by our class. We actually laughed while they (the characters) cried their hearts out.
reply

For me the song that stood out the most from Poppins was Feed The Birds. Just sayin'. :) It was also Walt Disney's favorite song.
reply

How About Disney Movie Musical from the Movie in 2013 film called The Munchkin Welcome Song from Oz The Great And Powerful (2013.
reply

Ya shoulda waited a little bit longer. The live action adaptation of Prince Ali probably wouldve changed things a little.
reply

I knew Mary Poppins was the best it has to be it is not only Disney's best but it is also the greatest musical of its time

I agree that a song from Mary Poppins should be at #1, but I would say Feed the birds instead, it's a masterpiece
