On the surface, 13 Going on 30 is another movie in the Big tradition, in which an adolescent is magically transformed into an adult while retaining a child's consciousness.
Occasionally I need what is commonly known as a chick flick as an antidote to a stressful day. 13 Going on 30 is clever, charming, funny, and heartfelt. For the guys, it's among the better of its kind to watch. I ran across this charmer about a nerdy girl ( Jennifer Garner) who wishes to skip her teen angst years and become fabulous and thirty instantaneously. A sprinkle of magic dust does the job, and waking up one morning, she finds herself having everything she dreamed of - a lovely apartment in Manhattan, a job in the magazine she adored as a girl, a boyfriend who's a professional hockey star and a stuffed full of goodies walk in closet.
Sadly, however, she is shocked to discover she is not a very nice person. Putting the wisdom, idealism and enthusiasm of her unspoiled inner thirteen year old to good use, she rectifies the situation with the help of her best childhood friend (Mark Ruffalao, reconnecting with her parents, and finding true love along the way.
Garner's first co-starring film role was in the action movie Daredevil (2003, in which she played Elektra to Ben Affleck's Daredevil. The physicality required for the role was something Garner had discovered an aptitude for while working on the film.
Jennifer Garner is indeed a charmer, she is in incredible shape and is stunningly gorgeous. Jennifer Garner is superb in her role as Jenna Rink. She does a terrific job of acting, particularly in the early scenes when she appears as a completely discombobulated 13-year-old inhabiting an adult version of herself. She handles the smallest of nuances very well to sell the audience on her sudden and traumatic experience; she tries to fit in as an adult, but retains several charming adolescent qualities, like asking to be excused for a restroom break in the middle of a business meeting. Mark Ruffalo also delivers a splendid performance as Matt, a man who is shocked and confused by the sudden re-emergence of the Jenna he once knew and, perhaps, even loved, and dealing with his rekindled emotions while preparing for his own wedding to another woman.
The film also incorporates plenty of 1980s flair in the soundtrack - the 80s music heard throughout the movie sounds fantastic. Pat Benatar's Love is a Battlefield, Rick Springfield's Jessie's Girl and Michael Jackson's Thriller starring Jennifer Garner as she recreates and dances to the song. Jennifer is great very athletic.
13 Going on 30 nudges a solid life lesson into its story, conveying the importance of being true to oneself and living not necessarily for the moment, but for the whole of life; making smart decisions; and never forgetting what true friendship is all about. Don't misunderstand; this isn't groundbreaking or even classic cinema, but it's just incredibly good at what it tries to be. That's high praise for this sort of movie. It's time to acknowledge that a well-done Romantic Comedy isn't just for the girls.

If jenna's character was played by Hillary Swank then it wud also be ok bcuz hillary is a great actress and also she and jennifer are almost exactly the same in face features and body and i honestly think that the younger actress of jenna is more resemblance to hillary swank but still they are all so accurate
Edit: one of u have pointed out but i also see that her best friend younger teens is very much similar to her older its really insane

Out of the six chick's there are two of them that I can't stand! One of them is nothing to look at, she is also big and chunky, then of course there is Tom Tom! I am sorry but they absolutely do not look tough at all, they just look stuck up, prideful and snotty but not tough, especially Tom Tom she is nothing but a tooth pick!

Like the Wedding Singer this movie had great music but was highly inaccurate with it. The movie came out in 2004 so if adult Jenna was 30 then you subtract 17 years and that makes her 13 in 1987. Late 80s. the problem is all the music she mentions. Thriller, Pat Benatar, Rick Springfield. was from the EARLY 80s.

One of my favorite comfort movies I never knew that was Brie Larson lol. funny! I love how Jennifer Garner found a child actress that represented her younger self so well! I didn't know the same girl played her in Ghost of Girlfriends Past either, another great movie!

No the facts didn't change anything cause i knew most of them already. Mark Ruffalo brings more encouragement as Matt Flamhaff to be yourself. However, Jennifer brings a smile and embraces her problems to make younger Jenna make better decisions in life.

Also the real life dream doll house is the house next to jenna's childhood home! You can see it when they walk home from school together and Matty gives Jenna a razzle. But at this point the house isnt painted pink

I always thought the Love Is A Battlefield scene was strange. Jenna probably hadn't made any time for her neighbours, and yet they're all fine with their teenage daughters going to a 30 year old's place to sleep
