Im so glad you posted this - hes a despicable person whos profiting from exploiting vulnerable people - including children who will have their psychological issues on the web forever. He also refers to himself as a psychologist and a mandated reporter even though he hasnt had a license since 2006. Reality show hosts are not mandated reporters (being called a reality show makes him very angry - Ive seen an episode where he was extremely offended and denied it - but that is absolutely what he is.
He also talks about medical issues he has no education or authority to be spouting his nonsense about. In addition, he calls people with serious chronic issues that cause severe pain and that take prescribed pain medication addicts. Then he hypocritically enables guests that actually are addicts or alcoholics, (according to this video.
Hes pompous, infuriating and dangerous - I wish California would enforce the laws regarding practicing psychology without a license - but of course, they wont due to his wealth and prominence.

i'm totally blind hearing-impaired and I live in Australia! I had surgery on my eyes to supposedly laser The whites of my eyes because apparently according to the so-called surgeon I had massive glaucoma and I don't know whether to believe him or not, the reason I'm explaining all of this is because if I was in the US and I was a US citizen and the same thing that happened to my eyes and my family had allowed it like they did here and I'm constantly on codeine like I am here because of the pain, that Philip McGraw whatever he claims to be with claim I'm an addict when codeine is the only thing that helps me with the pain that this doctor in Australia put me through! this Phil scumbag thinks that everyone is an addict just because they take pain medication and not everyone is and I'm not saying that because I'm on codeine myself, I'm saying that because everyone's pain is different and doctors often cause pain and that's why people are on medication in the first place

Actual MD here. It bothers me how many people think Dr. Phil is a Psychiatrist. Dr. Phil is NOT a psychiatrist or medical doctor of any kind, as is often misunderstood. Please do your research. Dr. Phil went to school to become a clinical PSYCHOLOGIST (there is a huge difference between the two terms. A Psychiatrist goes to medical school, gets an MD, then completes training in a hospital setting for years. Psychiatrists have the ability to prescribe medications! A psychologist gains a PhD, does NOT go to medical school or train in a hospital setting and CANNOT prescribe medications. Their work mostly behavioral therapy, research, etc, although Dr. Phil does NOT hold a license to practice clinical psychology any longer. Nonetheless, he is a well educated and intelligent guy for sure, but do not be confused.

There is no doubt Phil, like anyone including main stream media does what they need to do in order to keep ratings which is later turned into cash! Do I think Phil can help people using the services offered to some of the clients/participants. But do I think any doctor can cure a life time of trouble in a 40 minute show. Not even close! Regardless, I have never been a client of his or a participant of his show so I have no first hand knowledge. Just common sense. None of the accusations against him surprise me. Not because he is a bad guy, but the type of work he does is absolutely a target for law suites. I know this as a private investigator because I am constantly working cases for many insurance companies that have had allegations made against their clients.

Nearly ALL day time chat shows around the world are exactly like this, although not quite as far fetched as US ones; they really go above & beyond to use guests to line their pockets, & trust me when I say. those guests are very much real & other than a hotel room / potential travel / food, they arent paid & any treatment provided (aftercare) is often slim to none (& what they do receive is as little as they can get away with, so they can say well, we DID provide you with (insert help here. Pretty sick when you think about it; people are going on to genuinely get help only to be used for ratings & taken advantage of.

Its clear logic that this is a show, thats the business model and depends on ratings to air, the focus is to be enternaining and preying on the basic human tendency of snooping around in other peoples life and missery. Its not focusded on helping, if that were the case as so many times Dr phill repeats in front of the cameras the program would be entirely different, like airing a situation AFTER being solved and with consent of those involved as a means of educational content. But the program as it is is focused mainly on using the drama to increase ratings.

THE MONEY! He does get very nasty with the people that are on. His wife started on one of those skin

You don't need a license if you're not taking on patients in private practice or under an employer, just like you don't need specific classes of driver's licenses if you're no longer driving those types of vehicles. His show is a business, and runs like any other business would. People agree to go on the show, honestly I think half of them want the opportunity to be on TV. so. you know what you're getting into? I guess I'm not shocked by any of this lol.

One thing ALL guest say is, you said you were going to help me. Because they make them believe is all about helping them but as soon as they hit the stage Dr. Phil goes in on them with things they went told would be on the show. Another thing they do is twist words or manipulate a comment. I saw this so many times. Smh he is always self righteous but will tell you he's not.

Dr Phil isn't anything close to real psychology. He adds to the shame and guilt of his clients with public humiliation and his judgemental way of speaking. A real psychologist NEVER tells you what to do. They suggest options and allow you to come to your own conclusions. Tough love does NOT exist and it does NOT help people with mental illnesses get better.

In reference to providing addicts with alcohol and Xanax If a person rapidly detoxes from chronic alcohol use they could have a seizure and die. Some amount of alcohol will keep the person alive and Xanax will help reduce the risks of seizures. I think those are a safety precaution that do not include medical detoxing in a clinical setting

I still think Dr Phil has a lot of good stuff to share with people. No one is perfect, and you can always use your own brain and sense of logic if you find that his advices do not apply to you. And be aware of that TV will always be TV. Just because you read it in a magazine or see it on the TV-screen doesn't make it factual.
