If you think Heathers is insensetive then you really don't understand dark humor nor satire, the movie is not making fun of suicide, date rape, gay people, ect. It's actually poking fun at the people who romanticize suicide, bad boys, ect. Wich was very common in 80's teen movies, the popular people in tje school getting killed and people thonking they were so deep and shit is the point, Veronica stopping Heather Mcnamara's suicide is direct commentary about how stuff like this makes people actually consider suicide when depressed and Martha's attempted suicide is never played for laughs. JD is the bad boy archetype taken to the extreme and Veronica is a classic teen movie love interest deconstructed. everytime stuff like bullying and date rspe is played for laughs id not at the victims' expense but rather at the people doing it in the first place and Veronica particioating in homophobia by helping JD fake Kurt and Ram's suicide pretending they were gay is then met by the girl at the funeral crying looking at Veronica, basically showing you how wrong that was.

In regards to Say Anything, in 1989 there were only a couple ways to communicate. A single house phone line that went to every person in the house and likely the parent would answer, or the mail. So finding way to communicate missing someone or reaching out was a LOT more difficult than it is today. There was no internet. No cell phone. You call the house or you go to the house. That's it. So for the times it wasn't as creepy as it may appear today. It's only more creepy today because it seems so unnecessary to drive to someone's house when there are dozens of ways to communicate 24 hours a day. It was different then. You miss someone at 1 AM when their parents are sleeping in the house. you can't even call cuz the phone wakes the house.

It wouldn't work today, oh that's true. but that's because the new generation killed our old world! This generation is awesome electronically but when it comes to how music and movies were made. y'all can't touch it. You ruined it but you cant touch it. you guys became so sensitive. Someone can bump into you or step on your toe and they are going off. Yoi cant say certain things in a comedic way without them gettin offended, smh. I'm over it. Nothing we can do but at least I was able to experience it. everyone who didnt will never know how good we had it.

hmm. i think a lot of people forget that we can be critical of past/problematic media and still enjoy it. this isnt titled top 10 movies that are horrible and you should never watch again so im not sure why everyone is going off in the comments. the key is to talk about what makes media problematic and open a dialogue from it, which is what this video is doing. i love say anything, just friends, better off dead, ferris beulers day off, and the first twilight book, even though theyre all problematic and sometimes, frankly kinda garbage.

Ok so. Jawbreaker is your number 1 most underrated teen movie of the 90s but here it's the one of these top 10 movies that didn't age well. Nice contradiction.
Also, yes, it's a bad trope that when girls lose their glasses and improve their hairstyles they get hotter but whenever guys become hotter in movies, the same thing happens with them. And tbh, people do get better looking with an improved hairstyle.

I was never a fan of twilight I was just a casual movie goer who was like the movies are ok time pass etc, but now when i watch them on TV it's so damn funny its unintentionally funny, the acting is just horrible and so wooden how the hell was it successful? But anyway thank God ppl hate it now and has no legacy. The movie takes itself way too seriously when it's silly
reply

No, the characters in Ferris buellers day off arent unlikeable.
See, the protagonist of the film is Cameron, not Ferris. Ferris decided to take the day off so he could take a Cameron to live and rebel before they part ways. And also the daddy issue thing. is that a bad thing? Oh yeah this kid has a mean dad so he S U C K S

They said things in movies that we probably wouldn't really say in real life but that's wat makes a good movie. It's the movie world not real life! They wanna make every movie now about real life experiences. It's a different world ppl its comedy, it's only to make us laugh dont let everything offend you.
reply

It's understandable why most of these movies are on this list, but Ferris Bueller's Day Off? REALLY! That movie is SO classic! It's easily enjoyable today! Every kid wants to have a day like that! Shoot. ADULTS wanna play hooker and get away with it as gloriously as Matthew Broderick did.
reply

she's all that jawbreaker buellers day off 16 candles heathers totally weren't working for this thumbnail twilight not even a number wrong but clueless carrie the breakfast club mean girls also wouldn't work today either need to do this list for disney movies animated or live action
reply

That's not you to say what is wrong and what is right, especially when it comes to art. Westerners have become a bunch of frustrated puritan low-iq nerds. Your kind of people don't even understand second degree. I guess that's why they don't do cool movies like in that time anymore.
reply

No movie today makes everyone happy! There are always a group complaining about something a whole generation forgot movies are entertainment not documentaries and not all movies need to include politically correct plots. Some movies entertain some groups period.
reply

Why do none of these lists ever include 40 days and 40 nights! The girl rapes the guy at the end, and then he head to apologize to the girl he is seeing for sleeping with another girl. Even though he repeatedly told the other girl no.
reply

This is interesting how they mention risky business premise borderline pedophilia but NO mention of dirty dancing and how a 25 year old is sleeping with a 17 year old. Don't defend it ya know her character nis supposed to be 17.
reply

This clip is Exhibit A for why political correctness has killed comedy. Its pointless to judge movies made in different ages through a modern lens - they are snapshots and reflections of how things were then nothing more.
reply

When watching older films, you have to make allowances for the time they were produced; many things haven't aged well or wouldn't fly today, which is something that has to be put into perspective.
reply

I disagree, Ferris still slaps and I was born in the late 90s and I think that. The only reason why it wouldn't work today is because updated technology would make it impossible for him to pull it off.
reply

I definitely disagree with Say Anything. It isnt creepy because they had been in a relationship and Lloyd knew Diane still loved him. They only broke up because of her dad.
reply

These movies were fun. It seems as if people have lost their sense of humour__ if they ever had any to begin with. People today need to get a life and stop being so grim.
reply

To the people who made this video, like this video, and agree with this video: you encapsulate everything that is wrong with Western Culture in the 2020s.
reply

This is why Men shouldn't try to get girls these days, they should try to get us. They want us to chase them and at the same time get in trouble for it.
reply

They would all be racist, misogynistic, hateful, or whatever the babies these days get their feelings hurt. Kids these days would not have survived the 80s
reply

I find it interesting that all the movies condemned for a wide variety of reasons, but the commentators have no problem with BULLYING.
reply

Its not a teen movie, but Saturday night fever, pretty much ends with a rape and travolta saying to the victim if she is happy now.
reply

Can't hardly Wait is a fantastic 90s teen movie. The person who made this list is exactly what's wrong with the world today.
reply

In defense of Heathers & JawBreakers, Theyre Black comedies meant to both poke fun at & criticize society faults as a whole
reply

I saw Ferris Buelors day off a month ago for the first intone. As a 21 year old, I thought it was funny so. Whatever LOL
reply

Today's generation is just emotionally weak and self entitled, these movies are just fiction and just trying entertain
reply

When I was younger I wondered if I could had pulled off the scams Buller did. (Didn't it briefly become a TV series)
reply
