Just because I was very confused by the mention of Karl in the Love Actually segment, I personally think Sarah was in the wrong there. Karl rightly realized that he was always going to play second fiddle to Sarahs brother. Yes, her brother was mentally ill and would need her attention a lot of the time, but Sarah desperately needed to learn that she cant let her brothers illness stop her from having her own life. Sarah and Karl were about to get intimate, but she answered the call anyway, saying she wasnt busy when she clearly was. Karl wasnt being insensitive - he was trying to get her to realize that she needed to live for herself once in a while. And when she chose to answer the phone again, he leaves as a response to her conversation with her brother when she said of course, if you want me to come over, I will. He knew that her priorities for the night had changed and reacted accordingly. I wish their story had turned out differently, but that was never going to happen as long as Sarahs entire life revolved around her brother.
Again, Im not saying that her brother doesnt need her attention - schizophrenia (which is what he obviously had) is a major thing and requires a lot of support from loved ones - but she would answer his calls at work, at a party, while having a nightcap. Her boss had to tell her to switch off her phone because he wanted to talk at length with her and the conversation ends when her phone does ring. She had no life outside of her brother and thats not healthy for her or her brother.

The boyfriend and friends in The Devil Wears Prada always irritated me. They repeatedly tease Andy for her new job, are just as judgemental about the fashion industry, the boyfriend repeatedly makes her feel bad for doing well at her job and even berates her for not impulsively quitting a high sought after and career changing position. I understand his frustration, she's gone more, less attentive, repeatedly busy but rather than try to talk to her, be understanding, proud of her accomplishments or even focus on his own work he just constantly makes her feel like crap. It sucks, but there are a lot of cases of couples who both have very demanding and high placed jobs, but idk he always just rubbed me wrong. She should've just stayed single after that

I couldn't STAND Danny Zuko even as a kid. I thought he was a sleazy grease ball, even when he tries to make out with her at the drive thru it wasn't the first time! He tries to coerce her on the beach but she tries to stop him by saying Danny don't, you'll spoil it! And then he says no, itll only make it better. Just ugh, so gross! I'll take Crybaby Walker, who fought for his woman from the start, was never ashamed that she was from a different social group, and never forced himself on Allison, thank you very much.

I take personal offense at the fact that Harry Burns is on this list. The whole point of his character is that hes a real person with flaws and feelings and issues. It takes them 12 years to work past that. Thats why their relationship works. Fight me, msmojo
Same goes for Tom Hansen btw! The whole point is that he has too many issues and shouldnt be in a relationship. Yes, that makes him a terrible boyfriend but it also makes him a better person in the end. He doesnt deserve a mention on this list.

The problem i have with the number one spot is as follows, from the beginning of BJD, she is FULLY aware of how much of a tool he is, even going as far as saying he encompasses ALL the worst traits and def someone she should NOT date. and then she does it anyway. so i don't feel bad. in fact Mark was probably the bigger dick, at least Daniel didnt' hide his behavior. Mark was mean for absolutely no reason, and took far too long to apologize for his behavior

How about Gerry from Sliding Doors? He lived with girlfriend Helen while researching and writing a novel aka cheating on her with ex-girlfriend Lydia. Then Helen's fate was divided into 2 possibilities, where Helen 1 barely catches a particular train and Helen 2 barely misses it. Helen 1 gets home in time to catch Gerry with Lydia, dumps him, and starts a much happier life. Helen 2 doesn't, and keeps supporting, and getting jerked around by Gerry.

Tom wasn't a bad boyfriend, he wanted something serious and Summer just played and used him. Nate wasn't bad either, the entire movie is about how Andrea put her relationships in a second plan as she was pursuing her dreams. It's okay to make sacrifices to get where you want, but your loved ones don't have the obligation to be okay with the fact that you aren't giving them any attention.

I love that Glen Gulia made it onto this list, even though I would personally put him a lot higher, because you don't see the characters from the Wedding Singer on many if these lists as a lot are repeated. This one was one of my favourite movies when I was a teen as well as Never Been Kissed. The fact that Drew Barrymore plays leads in both makes it even better xxxx

How was Nate a bad boyfriend? He loved her for her and was not impressed by her 'improving' material objects/ status. Yes, he could have been more understanding around her demanding job but he wanted her time, affection and attention, like any engaged partner? She was neglecting him for her job and then crossing boundaries with the other guy. Not a good example.

Harry Burns: Likely good at the core, but super annoying.
Danny: Insecure to the point of letting his friends influence him. I mean, I love Grease, but seriously, who just abandons their kind-hearted girlfriend at a dance to claim the spotlight alongside their obnoxious ex?
Warner: Condescending, arrogant, dim-witted, and above all, Complete Garbage.

When The Devil Wears Prada was mentioned to not be on the list and it showed Nate I was like Well yeah. Because Nate was a good boyfriend. Now Christian, the guy Andie seemed to almost leave Nate for, started off nice at times while also hinting he's the better choice until he revealed at the end what was the corporate plan in the French magazine

I havent watched all of these movies but I have watched most of them. I loved the ending of Legally Blonde so much. Elle, saw what kind of guy Warner was and never really treated her well, not like how Emmett treated her. Hes so much better than Warner. At the end of the movie, Warner didnt get anything which he definitely deserved.

Tom from '500 Days', should have been on the actual list rather than on the honorary list - and he was a lousy friend as well, all he and his friends ever did was talk about his problems, he never once asked them a question about themselves unless it was for a 'oh yeah, what do you know' moment.
reply

I HATE Grease. I watched it two years ago for the first time and it was horrible from beginning to end. Why would any girl want him and how is the happy ending her changing everything about her, so he can keep lying about his feelings and true character to himself and his friends?
reply

What about Nate from Devil Wears Prada. One of the most realistic portrayals of needy, insecure and toxic boyfriends who would rather pull their significant other down to their level rather than level up themselves. It was shocking that Andy chose him over an amazing career.

Harry is one of the best rom com guys. He was emotionally damaged over his ex-wife and messed up with Sally, but realized he made a mistake right away and tried to make it right. He is most realistic and likable of all possible love interests in rom com movies IMO.
reply

At least I have been smarter than any of these women in these rom-coms. I would never let a guy treat me like how they were treated. Although I thought that Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon Levitt's characters in 500 Days of Summer were equally terrible people.
reply

XD this is why im glad im single. I might be waiting for my mr. /mrs. right, but for now? Im ok with bein a single pringle. Especially with jerks like these. Cuz sadly? Sometimes romcoms arent that far off with how bad some folks can be.
reply

I wish you guys would have been more inclusive with this list. Theres some amazing classic romantic comedies like Boomerang, The Best Man, Love & Basketball, Love Jones, etc that definitely deserved some attention in this list.
reply

You don't have to apologize for dragging Danny Zuko. He was a d! ck. And that whole movie it problematic, with Sandy changing her whole persona for him. But Harry ended up figuring his stuff out, much more sympathetic.
reply

Finally, someone who calls out Sandy and Danny's relationship for the ACTUAL problematic elements (such as the near groping) rather then arguing Danny didn't change as much as Sandy did at the end.
reply

Plus Warner totally insulted both Marilyn Monroe and Jackie Kennedy Onassis with that 'I need to marry a Jackie, not a Marilyn' and diminished their significance to a name and an image.
reply

People always criticize Tom or Summer, um did you not understand the point of that movie? Neither of them wrong, they just were not meant to be together.
reply

Movies like the wedding singer are only aide in creating nice guys.
They cling to the idea that they are the nice one and women only go after douche bags.

reply

I was with Karl in Love, Actually. In my opinion the brother, albeit ill, was emotionally blackmailing his sister. She had no life because of him.
reply

Harry? He was bad for other women, but he and Sally were ultimately friends. Sally was the best relationship he ever had.
reply

Harry from When Harry met Sally should not be on this list, he totally grew up and redeemed himself at the end!
reply

Oh my god. I am 20 years old, but I never watched Bridget Jones. I tought Hugh Grant character is a good guy too. :'D
reply

How can you possibly even put Sweet Home Alabama in honorable mentions. Jake Perry was awesome. Love that movie.
reply

Agree with all except Jake from Sweet Home Alabama if anything Andrew was worse than Jake! Hated that guy lol
