I can look back as a someone who was a teenager during the 2010s and I can say that the teen movies of that time where the social commentary time. Man, the 2010s, what a time. Submarine, The Perks of Being A Wallflower, The Kings of Summer, The Spectacular Now, The Way, Way Back, Boyhood, The Fault In Our Stars, The Diary of A Teenage Girl, Dope, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, The Edge of Seventeen, American Honey, Moonlight, Lady Bird, Call Me By Your Name, Love, Simon, Eighth Grade, The Hate U Give, Mid90s, and Booksmart. Even the later movies I mention in like mid 2018 to later is when my teen years ended, I am glad to say that I am glad to be around a time where I can say I grew up and was around when these movies came out when I was a teen.

I mostly consider heathers, clueless, Boyz in the hood, napoleon dynamite and mean girls as the films that were the turning points to the teen comedy genre going from being a box office cash grab to a serious evolving sub-genre. You can see it through recently films in its style and subject matters such as eight grade, dope, moonlight, love Simon, lady bird, the edge of seventeen and ATL among others. I still to this day believe Tina fey for mean girls was snubbed from an academy award nomination for best adapted screenplay she literally took a self help guide book for H. S. Freshmen girls and turned it into a comedy masterpiece with great, quotable dialogue, pacing and a lot of underlying political, philosophical and historical references/themes

I believe that the Outsiders was the most important of the teen movies in the 80s because it introduced all of the stars that had such a prominent role in film history. Patrick Swayze (Ghost, Red Dawn, Dirty Dancing, Tom Cruise (SO MANY but his 80s movies Top Gun, Risky Business, Rain Man, President of the Brat Pack Emilio Estevez (St. Elmos Fire, Breakfast Club, Repo Man, Ralph Macchio (The Karate Kid, Matt Dillon (Rumble Fish, Tex, Rob Lowe (St. Elmos Fire, Class, C. Thomas Howell (Red Dawn)

To All The Boys I've Love Before is awesome because of the themes of relationship no matter what race they are, Boyz In The Hood shows that life is not easy but always be who you are especially during tough situations, Napoleon Dynamite shows that an unusual person can be an amazing friend to you and The Fault In Our Stars shows that love will never end even in death. These movies are my personal favorites.

I have yet to see eight grade. The 2010's best are mostly lgbtq. gotta say 2010's teen movies have been weak. I think it's also when found footage movies were done. I think those type of films were cringe to the max. Lady bird is quite enjoyable. The best for me is easy A. the 2010's tone were so unnecessarily gloomy and depressing. 2020 needs a change.

You left out mentioning 'Summer of '42' (1971) & 'Can't Hardly Wait' (1998) & 'Strike! ' (1998) & 'Get Over It' (1998) & 'Thirteen' (2003) & 'Prom' (2011) but otherwise, it is a very good list!
But absolutely NO mention of ANY of Savage Steve Holland's movies, like 'Better Off Dead' (1985) or 'How I Got Into College' (1989?

I love coming of age movies. I miss that time in life, when you have your whole life in front of you. the world is at your fingertips. My favorite is 10 Things I Hate About You. Another good one, for guys especially, is Never Back Down. Also Karate Kid movies. A good video game in the genre is Life is Strange.

unfortunately the problem with movies in recent years is that none have managed to become the DEFINITIVE movie representing of a generation the same way Heathers did for the 80s, Clueless in the 90s, and Mean Girls did in the 00s except for maybe Booksmart which you guys completely skipped over

While unfortunately I know that the White coming of age story is the most prevalent in cinema and I enjoyed them. I wish there were more BIPOC stories. I love Mindy Kaling for her contribution to that. There are so many relatable stories that POC have that everyone could enjoy

2: 21 Watchmojo is trying to make a 24 year old a teenager. Unless the movie was about a genius teenager who skip highschool, THe Graduate was never about pedophilia It was a cougar. I mean I have not watch the movie but I didn't know it was about pedophilia.

I feel like eighth grade was more realistic than any adolescent film Ive ever seen. I could relate to her a lot and the people, the setting, and the plot were definitely more realistic to me than anything Ive seen in a teen movie before.

Instead of pointing out that Sixteen Candles has a female protagonist you could have mentioned how highly problematic it is. This movie is straight up racist in its portrayal of a Chinese exchange student and basically promotes date rape.

My personal favorite coming of age film is one that weaves tragedy throughout. Boyz in the hood, moonlight, and Euphoria are great examples. Ive always been able to identify more with it because my teen hood was also tragic.

I know it's impossible for you to cover all coming-of-age movies, but I'd just like to give a mention to a few of my more under-the-radar favorites: Little Manhattan, Flipped and Sing Street.

I love American graffiti. The cars, and the way they enjoyed there last summer together. Best example of a teen movie. It was all about transformation from being a teen to becoming an adult.

Check out the Way Way Back for an very unique coming of age story. Glad you added Me and Earl and the Dying Girl as they are both incredible, but subtle films that don't get talked about much.

I just realized that John Hughes was basically my real father. I never looked at his filmography at one time until now otherwise I would have known who was helping my mother raise me.

My favorite coming-of-age film is The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Mainly because I just really like dark movies. But the main character, Charlie, kind of reminds me of me.

6: 39 =Premise, yes but I dislike Taming Of the Shrew's ending. It took out the girl's agency in comparison to 10 Things I Hate About You that accepted both sides. .

I was born in '73. John Hughes basically wrote my life's story. I could easily identify with at least one character in every movie.

I cant see why some one wouldnt like the old coming of age movies. Sure, they could be cheesy, but not as some of the new ones.
