Andra Day did more than Act and sing, she brought Billie back to life. My father saw her preform once. Her music is the only Jazz I liked. I remember being a kid and he played me Strange Fruit I was shocked sad, and repulsed by the lyrics and he explained it was about lynching. Now I understand why she sang it. A far better biographical movie then Lady Sings the Blues with Diana Ross. Wish my Father was alive to see this.

So many people don't know history. you know, I'm just gonna continue listening to the music I grew up with knowing the true story without modern day racism. Anti-racism means treating people like they have brains and hearts and not worrying what the color of their skin is. that film was one of the best I have seen. Andra deserved the oscar 1000%. I was totally shocked and disappointed in the academy. SHAME ON THE ACADEMY. Andra was in almost every scene and even did her own singing. DOUBLE SHAME on the ACADEMY. Andra made this film great and it certainly set more of the record straight on who and how important Billie Holiday really was. RIP Billie. Andra did you proud!

I haven't seen this movie, but I did see Lady Sings the Blues with Diana Ross as Billie Holiday and she was fantastic in that movie. In Lady Sings the Blues, they attribute all of her problems to heroin. I don't have Hulu, so I will watch the documentary. There is also a book called Lady Sings the Blues, which the movie of the same name.

Thank you so much for posting this. Honestly she has been my favorite artist ever since I was 13 and Im 21 now. They did have some fiction about her but I honestly look up to her for how brave she is. Someone said in her book lady sings the blues but the more you know about her the more you love her. And honestly its true!

The acting was fine, but the editing just felt so scrambled. I like a lot of African American history movies, but this one just didnt cut it for me. But thats just my opinion. (Also, I feel like that actress would be perfect to play a young Eartha Kitt)
