My personal favorite series finale songs are from The Powerpuff Girls where Mojo Jojo sings a parody of Part of Your World with Rule All of the World and then covering Everybody Wants to Rule the World which was what introduced me to the song before Lorde covered it. And The Next Chapter of Our Lives sung by Spencer from Good Luck Charlie of all people for The Suite Life on Deck
Edit: both of these shows were some of the biggest pillars of my childhood and I was heartbroken that I had to say goodbye to them. In retrospect, that was the last time The Powerpuff Girls were ever great until Hollywood ruined them. The Suite Life on Deck finale wasn't just the end of the series but of an entire franchise. For the longest time, it was the longest running Disney sitcom franchise until The Baxter Trilogy broke their record with their third installment, Raven's Home. But I've always considered TSLOZAC to be my favorite Discom of all time with TSLOD being very close but not close enough. We've watched half of the same actors/characters for 6 years! That's something any other kidcom can dream of! So yeah, both of these shows are more than deserving of going out on a high. And these songs elevate them even further!

Glee had its issues (BOY did it, but it knocked its finale out of the park. Using One Republic's I Lived and mixing vocals from old and new New Directions members was perfect (for those who assumed it would be Don't Stop Believing AGAIN, I'm glad they didn't go the predictable route.
Another great finale was Whitney Houston's My Love Is Your Love in the series finale of Pose, as Blanca echoes Pray's speech to the young gays at the ball about the importance of found family.

I'm sad you guys didn't put Come Join the Murder by The White Buffalo from the Sons of Anarchy series finale, that was amazing, the song playing as a whole as Jax resolves all the loose ends of his life before his final ride
Honorable mention to Livin on a Prayer by Bon Jovi playing at the Everybody Hates Chris series finale (which is a reference to the Sopranos finale)

How to Get Away With Murder should be on here. The last song to air in a series finale is always important to me and How to Get Away With Murder is no exception. Not going to be able to listen to Matt Maeson - Dancing After Death without thinking of those closing scenes. I'm crying again.
reply

Umm. Excuse me? Happy cry? No! I don't think so! I don't think happy tears were shed during the finale of How I Met Your Mother. More like sad, devastated, horrified tears.
If I Go, I'm Goin', makes it onto my Top 5 list. So beautiful, sad and haunting.

No offense, but I think Dont Stop Believing by Journey already had gotten more popular by being The Chicago White Sox song a few years earlier when they won The World Series. The Sopranos just elevated the song more.

Won't Let Go by Lindsey Ray in the series finale of Wynonna Earp. It was used during the much awaited wedding but the lyrics could have applied to the love that exists between the fans and the show's writer/cast/crew.

How can SFU not be number one? And how can HIMYM and Mad Men be here with their underwhelming send-offs? I need a playlist about that --- and Gossip Girl needs to be there for using the same one as SATC.
reply

Holy moly the ending of Six Feet Under. That song is perfect. I went in already knowing how it ended but that didnt stop me from being a sopping wet puddle on the floor when I actually saw it.
reply

Breathe Me was the perfect song to end Six Feet Under. It has a haunting, captivating melody, which is ideal to use for a montage depicting all of the protagonists' lives and eventual deaths.
reply

Breathe Me is BY FAR the greatest use of music in a series finale IMO. I'd also give a shout out to SUPERSTORE's use of Phosphorescent's Song For Zula in its finale.
reply

I'd have thought carry on my wayward son by Kansas supernatural would've been somewhere on this list it was awesome definitely one of my faves for a finale song
reply

Think the top 2 were chosen more because their shows are popular, because come on, Breathe Me is without a doubt the best use of a song in anything really.
reply

I'm sorry Ima let you finish but the Everything by the Girl's cover of Downtown Train was the best song from the HIMYM season finale period.
reply

Gotta say, Lucifer did something in it's finale that I thought would never be done. Use Welcome to the Black Parade in context on a television show.
reply

Breathe Me in the series finale of Six Feet Under was the best final episode song choice, and it was the absolute best series finale of all time.
reply

The Book of Love by Peter Gabriel in the Scrubs finale is also a great finale song, there are no OTHER seasons after that ending of Scrubs!
reply

Heaven in How i met your mother is one of the best things in that episode, the end isn't great, the song represents the series, not the end of it
reply

I remember Six Feet Under airing when I was much younger and I never got the chance to watch it. Till recently anyway. I cried during the end
reply

Breathe me was a great song for the Series Finale of Six Feet Under and still remembered it as one of the best Series Finales I have watched
reply

Wheres Neonis cover of Carry On My Wayward Son for Supernatural? My mom liked it so much she had me look for it on iTunes for her.
reply

I'd add Dreams by the Cranberries from Derry Girls, which was also the song that opened the show. What a bookend to a fantastic series.
reply

For HIMYM, the cover of Downtown Train used just before Heaven was fantastic too. Honestly, HIMYM has a pretty great soundtrack overall.
reply

Using the UK definition of series then I'd mention Hallelujah from The OC series one and The Book of Love from Scrubs series eight
reply

I know it may not hang as a show among these titans, but honrable mention to Living on a Thin Line closing out Vice Principals
reply

I hate the HIMYM finale with a passion! They ruined Barney's story arc completely and Ted + Robin do NOT work as a couple ever
reply

I know Hill House got a mention but Bly Manor ending with I Shall Believe by Sheryl Crow was also a fantastic choice
reply

Wow, I still loved I Lived In Glee and The Book of Love (in what I consider Scrubss final episode) both made me cry
reply

the way i listen to/percieve don't stop believing will never be the same ngl, now i wanna rewatch the sopranos
reply

Breathe me by Sia for the Six Feet Under finale is absolutely brilliant considering how perfect that finale was
