Knowing what I know now about black hair culture, Tyra really did a lot to take away from the natural beauty of the women of color on this show. Im not black, but my hair does grow so slowly, and after a mental break down a few years ago and buzzing all my hair off, it took years of emotional struggling to grow it back to shoulder length. Natural black hair requires so much care and work to be healthy and long, and I can only imagine how hard it must have been for the first girl to just have it all cut off. She still looked stunning, but its not the point. Tyra really loved making black girls get long straight weaves or doing a big chop, while putting white girls in weaves and extensions. When I was younger, it was entertaining and I thought ha beautiful model cry because she doesnt like her hair boo hoo, but as an adult the decisions she made rarely feel like she cares at all about the contestants and more just about how good it is for tv.

Tyra is a terrible person for this. Hair is such a huge part of someones identity. Hair is a GINORMOUS part of so many cultures, and its how people express themselves. Tyra is seriously just jealous that all these people look better than she does. Also the fact that shes MAKING THESE PEOPLE LOOK STRANGE and then JUDGING THEM FOR THE FACT THAT THEY LOOK WEIRD AS IF SHE DIDNT MAKE THEM DO IT? Im just so flabbergasted by the fact that so many people idolize this woman. Tyra is NOT a girls girl. Shes a demon sent to humiliate and ruin the lives and self esteem of young, impressionable people. Also, completely unrelated, but I LOVE Sheis hair. Its such an awesome look, I personally love split-dyed hair. And the fact that she pulled it off so well? Awesome.

I've never understood why they couldn't do the makeovers using computer simulation programs or wigs. She was creating a permanent solution to a temporary problem. In Cycle 6, the first photoshoot had the models imitate bald mannequins, but she didn't make everybody shave their heads for it. It's the same situation; most of these girls probably had portfolios with their old look, and if a client wanted a model with long brunette hair because of the photos and she shows up with blonde cropped hair because of Tyra's makeover, she probably won't get the job. Show them what they Could look like with the makeover, then leave them alone or let them choose to have the new look- don't FORCE them to have it or get eliminated automatically.

I used to watch this show, but I gave up early on. I learned early on, just because you were a model doesn't mean you have good idea what actually looks good on others. I found most of the styles Tyra and her team picked for the woman were horrible (I stopped watching years before men were allowed on the show. A lot of those women could have gotten away with some good wigs for individual shoots instead of trying to give them edgy cuts and colours that looked horrific on them. On the plus side, at least the women that got stuck with bleached hair could at least dye it a more flattering colour for their skin once they were off the show.

Wow. saying that someone with red, curly locks is a circus look when the young woman looks beautiful is beyond cruel. So. if her hair was naturally red and curly would you still call it a circus look? Some of the looks aren't flatering. true but none of these gals look that crappy. I'm apparently seeing their beauty beyond the unflattering looks that Tyra chose. I really think that a lot of what Tyra did was to make the girls look less pretty and. worse. to make them feel less pretty. It's like they were her lifesized Barbie dolls that she decided to hack the hair from.

Like all reality tv this show was a gross distortion of reality. No agency would bother doing half of these looks because they would limit bookings for the model - green hair, really? Tyra is clearly an awful person with no empathy and tone deaf in the extreme. I honestly hope you she one day has a moment of remorse and realises what an abysmal human being she was to these girls. The most annoying thing about Makeover Week is how they act like cutting or changing their hair is the most traumatic thing to ever happen to them. When Nyle Dimarco was on, they were all complaining and pouting the whole episode about having to change their hair, and he had his phone translate for them that he's deaf and not complaining and all their doing is complaining about their hair.

To me: nobody has the right to complain come makeover episode. Yall know what she does (especially after season 4, so you just have to be ready for whatever if this is what you wanna do. BUT when her hair team messes up, thats a difference.
Cassandra and Jael are the only two that have any right to complain for that reason. And KUDOS to Alexandria for speaking UP.

You know what would've made an excellent LAST episode of this garbage show? Having all the models who got a really bad look from Tyra & Company return and tell THEM that they were going to have their hair done to reflect the people who they truly are - mega garbage! I'd love to see Tyra or Jay Manuel rock a bleached nearly bald head!

I think a lot of models cried on makeover day not because Tyra had them cut their hair, but they look in the mirror & don't see themselves anymore.
Yeah, models need to fit certain looks, but they can put them in wigs, makeup, & outfits.
I cut my hair off a few years back & I didn't feel like me, do I can understand the crying.

It wouldve been nice if she had respected their boundaries and preferences. There couldve been some sort of compromise, especially when you are permanently altering someones hair.
Not to mention the way she forced them into uncomfortable sxual situations for shoot challenges.

That is the problem in this world. we allow other people to define who we are, even if the designer is an idiot. These people are expected to trust these experts; who knows if the expert is deliberately trying to destroy that model in favor of a different model.

Seems youd have a better competition if you didnt shatter some girls self-confidence. Also encouraging the girls during photo shoots and not throwing weird situations at them. Respect goes a very long way. Did they want good photos or not?

S3 Amanda, S7 Jaeda, S10 Stacy Ann are not really bad. Jaeda is actually great!
Also, I don't think S11 Alina's is bad either, compared to other white girl's weave
