Top 10 Best Musical Movies of 2021 Tick Tick. Boom wins for me. This is due to the story behind it as well as the amazing cast. Andrew embodies Jonathan so well. I wish more people knew about Larson and all he done for the theater. Without Larson we wouldnt have many of the musicals we have today. This includes, but isnt limited to, In the Heights and Hamilton. Thank you Jonathan Larson.
I was really excited for the Dear Evan Hansen movie. It ended up being just meh. The movie just wasnt what it should have been. Cutting out songs such as Good for You made the backlash from his lies feel less intense. The cast was great. I can even look past Ben Platt being older than his other classmates. It just didnt live up to the actual musical.
Loved both Encanto and In the Heights. The latter definitely gave a decent insight to what the Latino community faces. At least from what I can tell. Im not a part of the community, so I cant say how good the representation is exactly. I know there was a lot of backlash due to most of the actors being lighter skinned.
I have yet to see West Side Story. Anyone know where I can find it?\r\n

Ok. I honestly have to say that this list was pretty good, but why did they have to add this iteration of Cinderella, not to mention this particular song this song made me cringe even more than others and frankly, they really only should have kept Billy Porters song in the entire movie. Thats it. The point is, this Cinderella movie should not have be on this list.

The new west side story should not be on this list. An unholy amount of autotune was used and is a discrace to the original musical. Tick tick boom was musicals clear and In the heights a close second. West side storys only positive was that it had a new cast which can be seen as good or bad

This may be an upopular musical opinion, but I don't hate movie versions of Broadway musicals. Rent is, after all, my number 1 based on the movie version, not Broadway. Dear Evan Hansen, even though I haven't seen it yet (and oh how I want to, would not be an exception to this.

I recognize that Lin Manuel Miranda has insane talent, and I loved Encanto, but something about most of his music just doesnt work for me. Im really not sure why. Hes crazy talented though.
Edit: Ive only ever heard of Tick, Tick. Boom, but it seems like I would love it.

I still feel so reluctant to watch this new west side story, the original movie it's one of my favorites musicals of all time, a truly and complete masterpiece, it certainly doesn't ask or need a remake since the musical numbers remain being an spectacle till these days

Haven't seen the new WSS yet, but it'd be _pretty_ hard pressed to beat out Tick Tick Boom because that movie was damn near perfection. I knew the original source material pretty well going in, and the bar was set high. even so, it _surpassed_ my expectations!

I just watched Vivo today and I cried like 3 times, first at the part where Andres passed, some part i cant remember, and finally the car arguement with Gabi and her mom
honestly really a underrated gem that doesnt get talked about enough

its funny how encanto only placed #5 and yet is part of the three hashtags they used in this video loltbh encanto shouldve been number 1, is the movie out all of this that ive seen everywhere and got the most attention.
reply

West Side Story is one of only three movies to ever make me cry, and the only musical. And just for that, not even accounting for the incredible work done by Steven Spielberg and the rest of the cast, it wins in my book.
reply

decent list west side story is defos a poor pick for number one. the film wasnt as good as the original and certainly not better than most other musicals featured on this list
reply

Tick Tick Boom, West side Story and Encanto are in My opinion the best in my opinion. Cinderella doesn't match at all, tho I love camila's voice she needs more acting classes.
reply

I really don't like West Side Story. From the technical aspects, it's a masterpiece (cmon it's Steven Spielberg) but the story, something about it didn't sits right with me.
reply

I haven't watched Respect, but it must really suck if it's below Dear Evan Hansen. The DEH movie really took everything that made Evan slightly sympathetic and removed it
reply

The fact there are at least ten musical films in one year is heartwarming by itself - and probably a direct result of Hamiltons and La La Lands success, but oh well.

Tick tick boom is definitely my favourite! Creat cast, great voices, amazing produced! Love it! And obviously Andrew Garfield was a perfect choice for Jonathan Larson!
reply

This was truly a phenomenal year for the movie musical. I loved Tick Tick. Boom, In the Heights and West Side Story. Dear Evan Hansen could have been a lot better.

I remember when lin manuel miranda was on how I met your mother, I'm glad he has BLOWN UP in the mainstream over that past few years. Very talented man

In the Heights
Vivo

Tick Tick Boom
And more? 2021 was definitely Lin's year! And I can't wait to see what else he'll do!

reply

Im sorry but tick tickboom and encanto win it for me. I am in love with both movies and their soundtrack. Nothing else beats those two for me.
reply

Cyrano is both an old play remake, the inspiration for the Steve Martin film Roxanne, and has a modern remake called Cyrano De Burgershack
reply

Dear Evan Hansen did not work well as a movie. The Broadway show was brilliant. The movie was awful. It should not be on this list.
reply

How is enchanting only at # 5? The impact it has and how popular it is should make it at least 2, but imo I think it should be 1
reply

West side story was brilliant. Despite being a recreation, it still lived up. Only the master Spielberg could have pulled it off
reply

Cinderella is quite possibly one of the worst movies Ive ever watched. Diana was more of an its so bad thats its good and funny
reply

Yeah and to watch all of these you literally need like 8 different streaming subscriptions. No thanks. Thats way to expensive
reply

Lin-Manuel Miranda had one of the best years. last two year with in the heights, Encanto, tick tick boom vivo and Hamilton
