Season 2, episode 2 - Reds Last Day
Red gets laid off after the plant closes. On his last day, Red goes to drink at the bar. Theres some very funny stuff when the boys show up and get drunk with Red. But when Kitty comes to take Red home, they have the following exchange. Gets me every time.
Kitty: You know were gonna get through this.
Red: Yeah.
Kitty: Oh, heck, weve been through worse times than these.
Red: Just for the fun of it, Kitty. when was that?

One episode that should of had been an honorable mention in my opinion is the episode where Eric had career day and had to go with Kitty to see what she does in the hospital that part with one the patient died and on car ride home Eric realized what his mother deals with on a day to day basis and asked her how she deals then kitty instead of answering the question she hires the radio and starts sing the song badblood that's the episode that made a fan of the show.

Weirdly, the strongest part of the new series, was the relationship set up between Red and Sherri from next door.
The episode about her seeing her father in him, and him ultimately doing what her father didnt do for her, was actually well done, and Im hoping is made a bigger part of the series moving forward.
The idea that Red has a chance to right his wrongs with Laurie, through Sherri, and finally have a daughter hes proud of, could be great.

For all of recorded history, right up until around the 1970's, it was normal for fathers to be emotionally distant like that. Thats what mothers were for. You can get your panties in a bunch about how thats wrong, but that is the facts. Children today much more likely to be entitled and emotionally stunted. Now young people are staying at home past high school much longer than they used to.

I think the bar scene when Eric is going through it after the breakup should've been on here. Red talking about his old flame and then telling Eric he literally can take a few days to just cope with his sadness. it was so profound. Sometimes, less is more in these situations because often, life is about not letting the less(es) add up to a lot.

How sadly ironic that in THAT 70'S SHOW
the fictional character of Hyde was abandoned by his own parents and today in THAT 90'S SHOW the real life actor who played him, Danny Masterson, appears to have been abandoned by his friends in the series. LIFE IMITATES ART.

I would've had the break-up at #1. That single-handed changed the whole show dynamic. I would've swapped out Mrs. Forman's death with the attempted re-formation of Eric and Donna at the end of S3 that Eric refused, and left Donna going to Coli as a result.

If you look deeper, past the melodrama and 70s aesthetic, the main recurring theme of this show is the relationship between parents and older children. The dynamic between Eric and Red is the most important one, and the heartbeat of the series.

Fez isn't treated with much cultural sensitivity YES but WHAT culture is he though? We are now on a sequel series but they still won't say I honestly don't have any idea, his accent could be from southeast asia or easter Europe or anywhere.
reply

I remember watching the Fez and Nina one as I kid. I laughed when her dad said you cant be her boyfriend because youre different because Fez is kinda weird quirky. I didnt realize he was talking about race until now as a man in his 30s.

they all bought into it so much that it became more than just a sit com. there s so much real emotion involved. the 70s backdrop just seems to enhance it somehow. that convergance of everything coming togethor to make something truly special

1: 32 My God! I wish that Rachel & Ross had realized this on Friends instead of going on a break. Ashton Kutcher & Mila Kunis were fabulous in this scene about Kelso & Jackies relationship not being a good fit.

Red being a surrogate father always gets me. I had a similar relationship with a really outstanding father figure and it hits hard when I see scenes like this. Just like Uncle Phil and Will.
reply

10: 56 im totally with eric like if Donna doesn't see a future with eric why are you with him id have done the same cuz thats pretty much admitting your wasting my time and leading me on
reply

for the eric donna break up, personally i wouldve chosen when he went to africa cause after this break up they just pined and were mean to each other before getting back together
reply

Red is a treasure, If you take a man from that era that lived through the korean war you can understand how he was so stony, he had a heart and he guarded it fiercely
reply

Another moment is when angel gives Eric a chance to erase all his memories. Probably death. But he decides to keep then even after all the good times.
reply

This show aged-well.
I lost interest after people started leaving the show, but those first 4-seasons are some of the best pre-Sapranos TV

reply

I love it when sitcoms gets all serious. Fresh Prince did the same thing a few times and it hit me hard every time, you never see it coming.
reply

What would have made that scene with Eric and Red hunting better if Red had been like, well I will let you know if you are right one day.
reply

R. I. P. BETTY WHITE! You forgot about one serious episode, S1. E18: The Career Day. I miss Hyde, he was one of my favorite characters.
reply

as much as I love this show, I cant really enjoy it anymore after Danny Masterson did what he did (and got away with it)
reply

They wrote Midge out because actress Tanya Roberts requested to leave, so she could take care of her terminally ill husband
reply

While I understand Donna's point of view, she knew what that ring meant and still have it back. It was her fault
reply

Sad that Hyde eventually joined a cult and apparently became a serial rapist, according to the testimony of several women.
reply

How is Exotic racist?
Where I am from it's a compliment
I been called that by a black woman who slept with me

reply

Can relate so hard to Hyde being adopted. My 2nd brother was adopted by my parents after his bio parents abandoned him
reply

He screamed at me foreman, he really screamed at me
Says hyde as he gets cookies and milk in a safe home

reply

Red and Kitty are awesome parents. It's actually pretty accurate in portraying normal parents. Few shows can do that.
