I enjoy Grease, but I'm not a big fan of the ending.
For starters, while I can understand Danny needing to change, Sandy never needed to since there was never anything wrong with her. (Not saying I hate Danny or anything since he's one of my favorite characters. While I'm not saying this was the case, it kind of gives the message of changing yourself so that someone will accept you, rather than accepting yourself. Again, I can see Danny needing to change, but Sandy? It should've been her accepting herself for who she is--just like Danny did since he never asked her to change--and Danny trying to be a better man to prove that he truly loves her and they live happily ever after. Again, I'm not saying the filmmakers or anyone involved in the project meant to cause any harm and while I do love the final song, it still didn't make much sense to me. I mean, Sandy was basically perfect; she didn't need to change at all.
Also, the flying car thing was always weird to me. Like another commenter said, the movie is supposed to be realistic, so to speak, and that just took me out of it. Now, if it's supposed to be a dream or fantasy, that's one thing--fans have theorized them dying and going to Heaven after all--but if it's not, then why put it in there at all? Why couldn't they just drive or run away normally?
Again, I don't hate this movie at all and do still enjoy it, but those nitpicks are major ones and while they don't ruin the movie for me, it's still hard to accept them. Change those little details, and you might have a perfect musical.
Although, now that I think about it, the whole point of You're the One That I Want is for Sandy telling Danny that if he really wants to be with her, then he needs to step up his game and she's showing him what he could lose if he doesn't. However, even with that being said, not only does everything else still fall into place, but also Sandy herself told Frenchie after she asked if she was okay that No, but I think I know a way I could be. Like, Sandy, there was/is NOTHING wrong with you, so start seeing it and accepting it.

Robert Downey Jr. was so cute in Chances Are and i love Cher and Peter Cetera's After All I don't think is an unsatisfying ending, at least for me, but i believe the plot was solved quickier than i thought. Maybe if the ending would have been less romantic and more dramatic, Corinne could have passed away and get together with the real Louie up above. (Fun fact: in Latin America Chances Are was renamed as the movie love theme. I'm totally agree about The Breakfast Club, Grease, My Best Friend's Wedding and Love Actually endings. I think almost all the plots from this movie has aged very bad for today's opinion. The Devil Wears Prada is not a classic 2000's rom-com. Now you can tell it's more about two different women trying to coming through in their careers and ambitions. I've never feel so connected with La La Land. I may be one of those find it pretentious.

These lists always mention how Sandy completely changes who she is and you make it obvious that you never saw/understood Grease so you need to leave it off of your lists. First of all, Danny wanted to be with Sandy the entire time. Sandy left Danny at the drive in because he was being too aggressive. Not Danny, nor the T Birds, nor the Pink Ladies, NO ONE told Sandy she should change. She decided that for herself and asked Frenchie to help her with her makeover after the race at Thunder Road. Stop regurgitating nonsense you heard other people say and actually watch the film. All that said, yes the flying car is silly but the film never took itself that seriously. If people spontaneously breaking into song and dance is acceptable, why not a flying car? Its obvious fantasy, just like the Beauty School Drop Out number.

My thoughts in this list
10. Havent seen it. I dont think I could handle watching this movie. I lost a family friend to CF in 2014.
9. Havent seen it.
8. Havent seen it.
7. I hated the fact that Bender & Claire ended up together. Bender was a total dick to her.
6. Ok, Grease is one of my favorite musicals but I hated how Sandy changed herself to fit what Danny wanted. Also there is a fan theory about the flying car that Says that Sandy actually died at the beach and the flying car is her ascent into heaven. Too dark? I thought so too!
5. I hated this ending too! Ugh!
4. I agree! I wanted their relationship to grow more.
3. Havent seen it.
2. Oh, I wanted to wanted to know what happened with Karen. I felt so bad for that character.
1. Havent seen it.

Its trendy to complain about Grease but the truth is they both learned to give a little for each other to be together which is a timeless lesson if you ask me. It wasnt like Sandy was the only one changing Danny tried to change for her too. He tried to take up an interest in sports because he knew thats what she liked and she tried to make herself more edgy because she thought thats what he wanted But in the end they both realize that they just like each other for who they are Them dressing like each other was just an attempt for them to fit in with each others worlds which to me was a sweet gesture. Everyone wants to see something negative where there really isnt and its so annoying

When I first saw Bridges of Madison County, Id never cried so much over a romantic movie in my life! Despite the fact that Robert & Francesca didnt wind up together physically, their spirits were never parted. Thats so much deeper than a married woman selfishly abandoning her husband & kids to satisfy her own feelings & desires. Not leaving with Robert - sacrificing your own needs for those you love is noble. Nobility is a rarity in modern society where everybodys always thinking just about themselves all the time. I think Francescas decision to remain gave deeper meaning to what she & Robert had. To this day, Bridges is my all-time favorite romantic film. Perfection

The answer I was hoping for at the end of My Best Friend's Wedding was whether or not the couple's marriage lasted. Kimmy basically gave up everything she had planned for her life to be with Michael because he refused to give up his travelling sports writer job for something more stable for marriage and family. That might seem romantic to Kimmy then, but in reality, when the stress of following him around and having no life of her own, or never seeing him while she's raising their kids, they break up. The movie is hilarious, but that is one of the most unhealthy relationships in the movies on this list!

I just wanted to say that Sandy doesn't change for Danny it is actually the other way around. In the song You're the One That I Want percent agreement between the two. Sandy dresses up the way she thinks he wants her to look to get his attention and be like hey this is what you'll be missing if you make me feel inadequate ever again. If you just listen to the lyrics of you're the one that I want you will understand that it is an agreement for Danny to treat Sandy the way that she deserves and not to look at her as a just another girl he can play with her heart

People seem to miss the understated point; Danny did also change for Sandy. She changed her look for one day, he (presumably as we aren't given a time frame) spent weeks making onto the Track Team and getting a letterman jacket (well, cardigan/sweater thing. Sure we don't have some big Track meet where we see him win a race or prove himself (which really we should) but it is in there. I'm not defending it as no-one should change to please someone, but he actually tried to better himself. She got worse.

I once watched Grease with my mom when I was like nine, and when it was over I told her Mom, I didn't like how Sandy changed. and my mom said back to me Yeah, but I guess they wanted to give her a new look. to which I replied, Well I don't like her new look. I wish she was how she was before. If your going to be with someone they should love you for who you are, and you should never change that.
reply

no one talks about how danny was willing to change for sandy. we all talk about her entrance but what about a few minutes before where danny walks out in the sweater he hated and this is who sandy wants and im going to change for her attitude.
I know sandy changed was shit and neither should've had to and he should've loved her for her but we dont talk about him being willing to change either

Sandy was Australian and in Australia the society she came from was more repressive, than the California high school world Danny came from, she didn't really change, she just came out of her shell and likewise Danny began to realise there was more to life, that posing as a rebel. It's a tale of growing up. The flying car is just a metaphor for the future.
reply

I'm so tired of people saying this about Grease. Danny completely changed for Sandy as well. He lettered in track and became like a jock to impress her. Sandy got one make-over and people assume she changed her whole personality for a boy. Nah, they both accepted each other for who they were and both tried to change for the other to impress them.
reply

I just wanna say, for Grease, the car flying was actually mentioned during the movie when it was finally finished and one of the characters said, If this car were any better, it would fly. And so the car gets wrecked after the race and makes its return better than before so. Also, Sandy and Danny changed for each other so, whatever lol.

My Best Friends Wedding has the PERFECT ENDING. It was the right ending. Julias character learned a very hard lesson. If she had successfully stolen her best friend from his bride-to-be, she would have learned nothing & the sympathy would have been with Cameron Diazs character. It was a bittersweet ending, thus making it more poignant.

the devil wears prada - it ended how it should have end. She was working in a very toxic environment and her f was just trying to show her this. yes he was an idiot but he had good intensions
La La Land - i don't like this movie, but the ending is good. i would be furious if they would make her to drop her dreams for her love life

I always wondered what could have happened to Stoney and the buppy from the bank in Set It Off? Blair & Jada had beautiful chemistry on screen I keep hoping they do a sequel where they meet up in some faraway exotic locale & cement what they started. They had the potential for a beautiful love relationship.

Every time I see Splendor In The Grass, I keep wanting Natalie & Warrens characters to wind up together. But, realistically, I know it ended the way it should have. Beautifully, heartbreakingly real ending, because thats just how life is. Life never resolved anything neatly wrapped in a big bow!

Personally, it's Parasite for me. The movie is phenomenal and I wouldn't change a thing about it, but if we'rw talking about unsatisfying endings Parasite takes the cake. They even show us the happy ending we all want and hope for, just to be given a sad, yet realistic end.

13: 57 - according to the short film which came out several years ago, the Nison's kid and his beloved are living together And yes, we will never know the evolution of Rickman and Thompson segment because the short film was made after Alan had passed away.

Agreed for la la land! So sad. What doesn't make any sense to me is that he could have easily followed her to France when she went, cause he barely said there were great jazz clubs there. He would've found everything he wanted, plus her. Nonsense
reply

In grease, Danny did love her for who she was, which is why he changed himself for her, trying to become a jock. He never told her she had to change. I suspect that the pink ladies were responsible for making sandy think she had to change
reply

Danny is a cool character
But was a really crappy person
Yeah, as I got older I am starting to realize that Sandy ultimately gave in to what others think and changed who she is
Terrible message

Every After.
One of my faves and yes, they belong together but he publicly humiliated her and broke her heart, agreed to marry another woman then changes his mind and she forgives him straight away?

reply

Yeah I kind of think you missed the whole thing about Grease because in the end they both change for each other and realize they just need to be themselves to the other person to love them

As I said on the poll, my vote for this topic is Adam. Beth basically broke up with him because he was autistic. A lesser-known movie called The Story of Luke had a very similar conclusion.
reply

I still think that the end of Grease with the flying car was absurd. To me the only possible way it would make sense is that perhaps it was meant to be a dream Sandy was having or had.
reply

Its funny that Sandy finally becomes cool and popular on the last day of school. Once school finishes, being cool doesnt matter one bit. So I hope she enjoyed her few hours of popularity.
reply

Grease is one of my favourite movies but I never liked the message of having to change yourself to be with someone. It gave the wrong idea. Also RDJ looked so good in 1989 damn.
reply

There was nothing wrong with ending for While you were sleeping! Maybe we could seen more of Jack's quirky family in some kind of sequel! But it had nice romantic ending!
