How I Met Your Father has real potential if the showrunners take our advice. For this list, well be looking at everything we hope is part of the 2022 Hulu series inspired by the original How I Met Your Mother show. Our countdown includes a woman's perspective, nods to the original, not have it drag on too long, and more! Are YOU looking forward to HIMYF?

A couple of disagreements:
1. Why is everyone so against censorship. I like a show that I can watch with my kids. Every original show from a streaming service is either packed with profanities or made for little kids. I also don't enjoy the F-bomb being dropped every other sentence because you can. I also think it was fun and clever how HIMYM got around the censorship. As a father telling the story to his kids, he put it in there himself.
2. I am also not a fan of the 10 episode season. If I like something I want more of it, and if I don't like it then I won't watch it anyway. I feel a lot of shows that do the 10 episode format, or close to it, leave me wanting.
As far as the others go, I can take or leave the laugh track, it doesn't matter to me. Diversity is great as long as it is not diversity simply for the sake of diversity. And there should definitely be nods to the original and cameos from the original, otherwise what is the point? They are trying to build off of a series that was successful, but it has absolutely no connection to the original series other than the story telling format, which is done in several other shows too. So why is it HIMYF and not just another show about a group of 20 somethings living in NY?

Number #0 the parent mentioned in the title is alive Tbh I may be the only one that wasn't bothered by the mother being deceased, rather than the writers barely giving us the minimum reason to like her.
OR if they are killing the father, they need to:
1. Specify what disease he had and not allow it to be cancer cuse that is the ultimate TV show cliche/tell us there was car accident or something
2. Let us meet the guy so we can cry for him. The reason I did not share a tear for the mother was because she barely had any personality
3. Let him be a part of the gang for some time, maybe hide the fact that she knew the father ie in high school or college and then they start dating later on

I've seen the first 2 episodes of HIMYF and so far it hasn't been great. BUT, most 1st seasons of any TV show aren't great. The problem with this spin off is the high expectations that it would follow the same success as the original. We shouldn't expect it to be exactly the same as the original though because when the original show aired it was a different time, some of the jokes in the original would not be acceptable in new shows now. As someone who loved the original show I will give this spin off a chance. Hopefully, it would surprise me the same way as Legends of Tomorrow(also a spinoff. I stuck by it even though season 1 was terrible and now in my opinion is the best arrowverse show.

A few on this list really shouldn't be on here since that's already been confirmed (like the diverse cast, which mojo LITERALLY showed the main cast from a pic, showing that it was already pretty diverse, meaning that's already a given and not something to hope for, as well as the female perspective which we know is already the case thanks to the show focusing around Hillary Duff's character and having a female narrator as we found out in the trailer.

I just watched it. It's bad. Like really really bad. It felt overly forced, unnatural and I didn't laugh even once during the whole episode. Tried watching the second episode and had to turn it off not even three minutes in. This show should NEVER have been made. Period. They already screwed me with that abysmal ending and now this? I give this show one season, two seasons tops before it gets canned.

I dont know about the laugh track thing, because I really liked their addition and in most mockumentaries the silence in the scenes not only does it not promote laughter but also suppress it, at least thats how I always felt. Because even when youre hanging out with friends and someone tells a joke, the multiple laughs from everyone is what encourages even more laughter even if it was involuntarily

Lots of sitcoms have a live audience but get labled as laugh tracks. And though HIMYM didn't have a live audience because of all the flashbacks and jumping around, they DID play the episode FOR a live audience and they recorded their laughs. But Friends, Seinfeld, and The Big Bang Theory for examples all had actual live audiences, not laugh tracks.
reply

10) Laugh tracks are ok if they are not overused. HIMYM was about ok dose of them
9) No one cares about more diversed and inclusive cast. They are supposed to be good and funny, not treated as checklist.
3) Why? It's a story being told to teenagers, so it's logic that Ted used a little censorship
1) Yes! Yes! Yes! MORE BARNEY STINSON!

People need to stop asking for different races. Just ask for better talent. Just because u got all races in one show doesnt make it better. Its not even the real world most people get along better with their own race because they have more in common and theres nothing wrong with that.
reply

imagine they have an episode how they somehow here about what really happened during the pineapple incident, or a slap bet is made, or NPH cameos and hits on one of the girls then bonds with charlie over suites and then tries to teach the guys some plays
reply

HIMYM was such a good show that I didnt even notice or care about the laugh track because the jokes were so good. Plus the fact that the episodes were recorded then shown to a live audience makes it authentic to me.
reply

Diverse cast? The creators of the original show wrote it from their personal experience. So forcing something that is not natural, I don't know. Let them include minorities only If they really want to do so.
reply

Hot take: I think the creative disgusting of bad language and stuff was fun and made sense Bc Ted was telling the story to his kids. It became part of the charm of the show and introduced running gags
reply

i like the show okay but it isnt nearly as funny to me as the first couple of episodes of HIMYM so the laugh track feels forced but not every show gets it right early on so we will have to see
reply

Yeh. I don't want laught after jokes! So annoying.
I loved the censored think (because Ted speaks with his kids) like the Sandwich joke
I hope it will be between jokes and dark life things

reply

I want 3 things in the show-
1) features of the old cast
2) Kids from HIMYM
3) Robin Sparkles ( at least another character who has a pop star career when they were a teen)

reply

The show sucks, in HIMYM, there is 1 episode in which Robin tells the tale to her imaginary kids. The episode is great. Writers of the show are not good at writing
reply

Don't know but it just lacks something. I didn't connect from first 3 episodes at all. maybe I am old school and loved himym so much that I dont want to like it
reply

Lets settle this debate:
Who should have Ted ended up with?
A) Victoria
B) Robin
C) Stella
D) Zoey
E) Tracy (the mom)
Who do yall think?

reply

I actually loved the censorship as that introduced one of the best running gags, ie, the sandwich XD
and it makes sense yk, he's telling the story to his KIDS.

reply

13: 13
also, It's not like they died in HIMYM. They are still around in New York after all, maybe except for Robin. But they definitely could and should do that

reply

Tell me you dont know the difference between situational comedies and dramadies without telling me. One gets a laugh track, the other doesnt. Lord love a duck.
reply

Im sorry but are you saying less content is better? You would prefer 10 episodes over 30? How I met your mother dragged on but I watched it for the comedy.
reply

i definitely want to see cameos from the legacy cast or homages to their characters, i could also see this show being stretched out for a couple of seasons.
reply

how i met your mother the jokes were good, the sad moments was awesome there is not an episode was boring. The laughing track always on point
reply

Funny should be at the top of the list. Even if it has little to do with the original as long as it makes people laugh it'll keep me around
reply

It wouldve been the best shows if they started with cristin milioti and have cameos with the original cast plus the husband been TED
reply

Yeah, but the thing about future Ted not cursing is because he's telling the story to kids, and it makes A LOT of sense.
reply

Am I the only one who doesn't mind laugh tracks? It makes it feel more familiar and comfortable if that makes sense.
reply

I hope we get a new slap bet in this new HIMYF series. If they do a new slap bet I want it to be between Charlie and Sid.
