I got to see Man of La Mancha on Broadway with the original cast including Richard Kiley and Joan Diener. It was spectacular. An important life long memory. My dad went to see it 3 times and he was not a theater buff but it spoke to so many people. Too bad the movie is terrible Richard Harris cant sing because it would be a more popular musical these days. Listen to original cast recording ( we had it when I was a kid and we listened to it hundreds of times. Goose bumps and tears will follow.

Mine was an Honorable Mention here. Superstar. But then I am an old hippie. For me there are a lot of great songs on or off Broadway. But Superstar was one where a friend and I learned the words to all the songs and sang along with characters. We would trade off every other time as we both had favorite songs that were sung by different actors. I liked many of the other Rock Operas as well. My friend and I were able t o persuade family and friends to take us to the movie 8 times I believe.

So many classics miss on this list. Famous, valuable songwriters from history have just been trampled by the much younger crowd. Lets face it, has any of the songs on this list been a number 1 top seller? Or played on the radio as a single? Doubt it. But ask anyone over 30-40 years old if they know the real musicals from way backthose people KNOW the songs from the musicals even if they never saw the show. The songs of old were of the current times and everyone knew them.

It's no surprise these videos are geared to the the 30 year-olds and younger, hence their content. No surprise, then, they ignore Make Our Garden Grow from Bernstein's Candide, probably the greatest finale ever for a musical. Glad you included Being Alive and Children Will Listen, but where were Sunday, the West Side Story finale, Passion, Now from Pacific Overtures? Oh, well. If you and your audience don't remember, I do.

you know, the thing that really gets up my nose about video clips like this is that you have a commentator talking incessantly interrupted occasionally by a few bars are very talented people trying to play some music. I just wish that the people who produce these things would come to the realisation that the best thing the narrator can do is just shut the hell up.

It's hard to pick, Bring on the Monsters from the Lightning Thief was a great ending to the musical spinoff of the books, but The Man I Used to Be from the Count of Monte Cristo was a perfect way to end the story. So I don't know, it's such a contrasting pair of choices, but they both are good ones to me.

You'll Never Walk Alone has been the corps song for the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps for decades. and is as close to a sacred song as it gets in drum corps (up there with Send in the Clowns and the Santa Clara Vanguard. so much so that the headstones on the graves of any Scouts alums has MYNWA on them.

Amidst the great choices included here, Ragtime's finale Make Them Hear You leading into the Wheels of a Dream Reprise is an incredibly powerful, emotional ending to a remarkable musical. Ragtime deserves much more credit than it typically gets, and I think it's high time for a revival run.

I dont care what anybody says, the dear evan hansen finale should be on this list as it never fails to tear me up and is one of the most beautiful and heart touching finales of all time even when some of these songs are powerhouses its mellow finale will always be at the top of my list

I think Epilogue getting the #1 spot was a good choice. I would have given More, More, More! (Encore) from Moulin Rouge an honorable mention but I suppose it doesn't really count as the Finale since Come What May (Reprise) is the ''official finale''

You did not even put The Ballad of Sweeney Todd Reprise on the list, Being Alive from Company as #20 when I think it should've been #3 and not even Sunday Reprise from Sunday In The Park With George at #1. Something about that feels very wrong to me.

Heathers ranks higher than Phantom with a song most have never heard over an iconic song? Better check your judging system. However, I do agree with your #1 choice. Nothing touches Les Miz's Finale. Those voices nearly 'touch the face of God'.
reply

While I expected LesMis on 1, I'm a little shocked Rocky Horror wasn't on the list at all. Science Fiction Double Feature (Reprise, especially coming from the penultimate song, has this somber, dark-ish closure. It's kinda epic.

Not even an honorable mention for Anatevka in Fiddler. I guess by best finale, you mean biggest and most rousing? Sure, that's not Anatevka, but it's still one of the best. You even teased it!

Sorry, Ms. Mojo, you talk too much. It's the main reason why I rarely click on your videos. I love so many of the finale songs you refer to but you give us very little of the music to listen to.

One from A Chorus Line is so powerful its always on my list of grand finales. However, my first thought was the last song from Camelotso very gripping and moving after the whole story unwinds.

I know, it's not actually a musical, it's a tv-show about how to make a musical (based on Marylin Monroe life) - Bombshell. But the finale song - Let me be your star - is incredible!
reply

Listening to Barbra at the 2001 Emmys sing Walkon and with a cold to boot!
Magnificent!
And no public announcement of her performing it made it even more special as the finale

You left out the Camelot Reprise from Camelot and You Don't Own Me from the First Wife's Club two of my favorites. I am not a big fan of musicals so I guess my vote does not count.

explanations for choices were good. But ONE -singular sensation- was such a dramatic ld be higher on the list. showstopper at the time and even now. it really shou

my favorite will probably always be six from six. the combination of all the songs while telling a different story is amazing! six is just amazing overall

I know when the make a top 100 or 50 for finales, Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story. will be number one, I mean, Its only a matter of time.
reply

Nothing from the Fantasticks? That's the only musical that I had a part in, thankfully I didn't sing! But I thought the music was amazing.

I went to see Avenue Q 2 or 3 days before the 2016 election, so I appreciated that they sang Trump is only for now but if we had only known.
reply

I can't believe you left out the finale to Music Man, West Side Story, 42nd Street, and so many others. What do you base your criteria on?
reply

I haven't finished the list but I'm going to be sad if rent is not close to the top if not number 1. I get the feels every time.
reply

What happened to the mega mix in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat? That was incredible. Les Mis is boring and miserable.
reply

I feel borderline insulted that Butler Phantom was included among showstopping finales. right next to two superior versions
reply

Phantoms finale leaves me in tears everytime, doesnt matter how many times Ive seen it. Its just so beautifully heartbreaking.
reply

I personally really like the finale to Carrie: The Musical (2012) it really gets me all teary-eyed by how bittersweet it is
