Samantha deserved so much better on Sex and the City. For this list, well be looking at the instances where Samantha Jones was treated unfairly or proved that the others were unworthy of her friendship. While I agree, somewhat, her character was meant to endure these remarks because Samantha is to represent the dark feminine archetype. She is older then the rest, has a bold aura, unapologetic in who she is etc. and those qualities trigger the others causing them to project. Carrie is very wounded and insecure-unsure of who she is, Charlotte is reserved and Miranda isMiranda, who usually settles into comfort. Samantha acts as a mirror to them all, helping them to see patterns in themselves theyve never faced like the episode where Charlotte has lunch with her sorority sisters and her inner Samantha comes out. Or when Carrie recognizes she is judgmental during the whole UPS guy incident. Also, Kim wasnt written out of & Just Like That she didnt want to be a part of it and declined but there has been so much demand for getting her back that she signed on for an episode in the next season.

Honestly never thought anyone would say anything about this because of the way society crucifies women who sleep around openly. The way these women are judged and ostracized is extremely anti-feminist and they are disproportionately attacked compared to men who sleep around as well.
Also Ive seen women who love and respect Samantha as a character, but when there are Samantha-like women in their real lives they tend to attack and ostracize them. Their level of self-awareness and lack of empathy shocks me.

I remember watching this show when it was on originality and thinking how much those 3 really didn't deserve Samantha. Carrie was always a neurotic narcissist who never took responsibility for her own poor judgement and/or behavior. Miranda was a control freak who never knew what she wanted and blamed others for it and Charlotte was. Charlotte. A prude little girl who never grew up and faced reality, only childhood fantasy. Samantha was the only adult who kept it real. She was always my favorite.

Samantha is great, but if the show was written in a way where her friends never snapped or judged her lifestyle then it would just be unrealistic. Women actually do go through harsh treatment and comments from other women, especially a friend group. The show did a good job at showcasing this and making an argument that a person like Samantha can actually be pretty cool, nice, and helpful. With out friction or conflict there would be no story.

They were always horrible to her! And one thing that surprised me without fail about Carrie is that she would be incredibly rude and hurtful, then when the person reacts badly and gets up to leave because of her rudeness, she suddenly act all shocked hey where you going. Seriously Carrie, you trash her and her lifestyle and then wonder why she's leaving. totally unbelievable!

I liked Samantha for her confidence and loyalty to her friends. The only thing I didnt like was when she had no problem going after married men. If the person was single or in an open relationship, then it wouldnt be an issue. But if the person was in a monogamous relationship, then thats a problem. Her are Charlotte were the best characters.

Im literally the opposite of Samantha but she ended up being my favourite character because unlike the others she always knew who she was and what she wanted and wasnt afraid to show it. Always so straightforward etc that was so refreshing compared to the 3 others (especially Carrie)!

Wish I had a friend like Samantha the only female friends I ever had were liars thieves manipulative jerks who always would stab you in the back and one even stole my cancer diagnosis and photos to scam people out of money and attention. Most women are horrible to each other.

Samantha was really the star of the show. I do believe what Kim Cattrall said about the behavior of the other actresses. Its very sad when women pull each other down instead of lifting each other up. I am inclined to believe that Sarah Jessica Parker was jealous.

1) I'm sorry, but considering Samantha wasn't going to go the distance with him, Charlotte went overboard, but i get her beong upset. Samantha should of had a boundary with friend's brothers, especially, Charlotte's, who can keep up with her the least.

Agreed, Samantha was THE best of friends to all the girls, Carrie was the worst. I can do my own video of all the times Samantha had all of the others backs while Carrie abandoned her friends at times when when they needed her the most just for a man.
reply

I remember when she was dating a guy and his housekeeper kept harassing her behind his back to get her to leave, eventually making it seem like Samantha had attacked her and the guy shamelessly dumped her without hearing her side of the story

I just came for the comments to see how much the real life drama (or alleged/perceived/claimed drama) colors how viewers respond to this video. In fact Id put money on the content producer banking on the real life drama being the main draw.

I know that Samantha was supposed to be the nympho on the show, but let's be honest, they ALL were! I know that's what the show was about, but I think in a way, the other women judged her a little too harshly for what they were doing also!
reply

I don't think it was just that the characters were mean to Samantha, I think the writing and production hated Kim Catrall too. You could tell in the later seasons it was all about humiliating both the character and the actress.
reply

Samantha was by far the best character, and the best friend, in the show. None of the others deserved her, especially Carrie who was needy towards, ungrateful for AND judgmental of her friends all at the same time.
reply

Kim Catrall is an actress. Samantha is a fictional character. I think its important to distinguish the two! I hate the way the character developed in the two movies and understand why the actress was done.
reply

Even though some of these situations are true, I think it is not that deep. I believe these girls loved each other and they were each others soulmates. They were there for each other always, no matter what.
reply

I was a teenager when this show came out and I can clearly remember the women around me (society in general) attacking Samantha. Ive always had friends like Samantha. They are real and grounding and loyal.
reply

To be fair, when Sam came to visit from LA and had a belly Carrie told her that she looks beautiful in all sizes, but that she is clearly dealing with some issues, that is not exactly body shaming
reply

I agree with all of these except the last one. If one of my friends slept with my brother I would feel they dont respect boundaries, and then to be in my kitchen half naked is also disrespectful
reply

Carrie may have been written as the shows central character but Samantha was the star, the only truly authentic and likeable character out of the four women. Her absence in AJLT was glaring.
reply

Great list but I can't believe they forgot about the time Samantha had a one night affair with Charlotte's brother and upon seeing her the next morning at her place, Charlotte snapped at her
reply

She was the glue that held this group together I loved her character shes the kind of girl we all in need in our lives so sad the other actresses must of felt threaten by her popularity
reply

Uff, the roles especially of Carrie, but also of Charlotte and Miranda were just terrible people. Samantha was and always will be my favorite, because the role was so real and sincere.
reply

I absolutely loved it when Samantha helped out a fellow cancer patient getting her an appointment with the doctor as well as herself. I don't see Carrie ever being that generous.
reply

I mean, I mostly agree with this list, but a bunch of items where just her friends teasing her jokingly; which they all the to each other (Samantha included, as most friends do.
reply

Then why did they treat her like sht she was the literally only reason watched it just like that is uncomfortable to watch it it's like rectal exam for an hour
reply

Samantha was a queen, a legendary character with the best one liners on the show. In a way, she was too good for the show itself.
reply

I absolutely adore Samantha! Especially that baby name scene. We deserve a friend like that. A friend who defends you no matter what!
