Personaly the one with the German who lost his wife was sth. that really did get into my heart. At that time it was here in Germany all over the news & the athlet is still known very well today & act sometimes in shows etc.
For me it still every time I see some weights in gym or anywhere I think about him & the picture if his wife.
Besides that In my opinion the most important & also most heartworming moment in all of the olympics was not meantioned: The black power fist by Juan Carlos & Tommy Smith when they were 3 & 1 after the 200m run on the podium. What they did in the podium was a symbol that was known also before to show the discrimination of black people in the us but after they did it it was known to everyone in the world. Seeing how things are now in the US & around the world it is still relevant cause racismn no matter if its against black preople, asians or any other one is still happening & should never be tolerated by anyone!

A big thing about Cathy Freeman carrying the Aboriginal flag that some people don't know about is that until January 2022, the Aboriginal flag was copyrighted and not for public use without permission. By carrying the Aboriginal flag, she caused a lot of controversy here in Australia as it was not technically or legally recognised as an Australian flag. By carrying the flag, she was highlighting the massive achievement and impact her win had not only for her, and her pride as an Indigenous Australian, but for the Aboriginal community itself. I think it really highlighted just how far Australia has to go in closing the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. The fact it took until this year for the Commonwealth to buy the rights for the flag speaks a lot. I am so proud as an Australian of the impact Cathy Freeman made here - a fundamental moment in Australian history.

I understand that the Olympics are a world wide forum and the US cant or shouldnt be first in everything, but I really thought Dan Jansens story was amazing. In two straight Olympics he fell in his best event. Not only that, but he was a heavy multi-medal favorite when it came down to his last Olympic event ever. He was retiring after this race and it was his weakest event. It just goes to show that when the pressure is off, that is when your greatest performances, often, come. Dan didnt think he had a chance, so he was relaxed. So, not only did he not fall, not only did he win, in his very last Olympic race, in, admittedly, his worst event, he set a world record. That was probably my second favorite Olympic event behind Dave Wottles win in the 800m in track, at Munich in 1972.

My favorite heartwarming Olympic moment isn't shown here but it's another one that happened during the 2020 Olympics.
On his way to his 110m hurdles event, Hansle Parchment accidentally ended up at the wrong venue, aquatics, rather than the main stadium. He got there with a few minutes to spare thanks to the help of a Serbian volunteer named Tijana who helped call a cab, giving him money to pay it, to take him to the correct venue. If it wasn't for her, he wouldn't have qualified for the final, nor would he have won the gold medal. After the event he tracked her down to show her his new gold medal. Such a wholesome moment. Tijana's an honorary Olympian

Thanks for putting my home country of Canada's Joannie Rochette's emotional performance at number 1! I'm from Vancouver and I actually saw this live after school when I was 12 and it really teared me up! And I still remember hearing about the Georgian athlete's death at the opening ceremony when I was watching it live after school and it was very unexpected and they had to do a moment of silence in his memory. And the track actually faced controversy due to alleged safety problems after the accident for a little while. Thankfully, nobody else had a fatal accident during the games.

As a Brazilian I think you guys missed the 2004 marathon where Vanderlei Cordeiro de Lima was winning and by a large margin when he was attacked by an Irish priest that took him out of the race. He managed to recover but his race rithm was wrecked and he lost two places. He still managed to finish third but his joyfulness and his happiness arriving into the Olympic stadium in Athens made him get the Pierre de Coubertin medal. I could be wrong but later in 2016 he was the athlete who lit the Olympic pyre

As a dowhill person myself when I was watching 2010 Olympics I was watching the luging and watched that man from Gorgia come out the corner and everything in my being told me that man is about to die and my friend kinda chuckled and then when he found out I called it he stop being my friend.
Experience tells you that anytime you can die at a moments notice. I had watch a man die live on tv and i hold that to my heart as it could happen to me also, its the life we choose its our freedom our cost.

This is a great video very informative like going in depth on most of the things that most people don't understand or even know but again something I've noticed is nobody's willing to talk about Jim Thorpe I consider him to be a tear above everybody else on this list because of what he had to overcome and what he had to deal with and even to this day most people and most scholars considered him to be the version of a modern day Renaissance Man and I am inclined to agree with him

One heart-warming moment from the Olympics happened in London 2012 which could've been considered as an honourable mention. There is a scene when British judoka Gemma Gibbons won her semi-final match, after which she is seen looking up mouthing I love you mum. Gibbons had lost her mother to leukaemia years earlier. That scene I found is quite emotional and it is hard not to shed any tears when seeing it.
Later on she then won the Silver medal. Well done Gemma.

As a Filipino, you forgot to add mention weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz won the Olympic Gold medal in 2020/21 Tokyo Olympics, making it the first ever Olympic Gold medal in history of the Philippines. It was emotional and historic for our country after a long decades of countless silver and bronze medals win with no gold yet. Thank you, Hidilyn Diaz. #LabanPilipinas

You missed the mark on Dan Jansen. He wasnt just jinxed; his sister Jane died just hours before his first race in the 1988 Olympics, and he fell in both his events that year. In 1992, he finished out of a medal. In 1994, in his last race, he won gold, and to celebrate he took a victory lapholding his infant daughter Jane, named for his late, beloved sister.

Most recently it was watching that Kiwi who won New Zealand's first Winter gold medal. Specifically watching the other two medalists rush out after her great--ultimately gold medal--run and dogpile on her in one happy pile of snowboarders because they were just so happy she'd done such an amazing run. The camraderie was great.

My mind immediately went to the Rio Olympics, when Nikki Hamblin and Abbey D'Agostino had their collision during their 5000 meter heat and D'Agostino helped Hamblin up and they both finished the race together, despite both being injured (D'Agostino had a torn ACL and meniscus. It was the pure embodiment of the Olympic spirit

Team Jamaica still competes in Olympic bobsledding. Seeing them March into the Birds Nest during the parade of athletes for last years Olympics made me smile. Jamaica was one of the first tropical countries to compete in the Winter Olympics and when the team arrived in Calgary, it was their first time seeing snow!

MsMojo: big fail! At Number seven, you are showing a picture of Mathias Steiners actual wife, when you are explaining that he has lost his wife during a car accident. The woman you are showing is his actual wife Inge Posmyk and not Susan Steiner. Inge and Mathias have married two years later after the 2008 Olympics.

The German weightlifter Matthias Steiner was my favorite. He did it for his passed wife. I also remember the Georgian luger that died. I thought it was nice they gave a standing ovation. And now 12 years later his cousin is competing in the same sport, at the same age and for the same country

Again, Rebecca, is English your native language? Where is an Equato Guinean swimmer from? Could it be EQUATORIAL Guinea. Come on. Why do your editors let your pieces go through with so much mispronunciation in them. You may not know or notice, but this is a joke that the editors dont.

Another great Canadian moment was from Sochi, when Gilmore Junio gave up his place in the men's 1000m long-track speed skating race to Denny Morrison. Morrison went on to win the silver medal, and Junio received a crowd-funded medal from the Canadian public for his selflessness

I'm from Singapore, how is it that no one from Singapore did not even know about that story from the '88 Seoul games? That story should have been highlighted to teach a story of humanity, through media, and schools, especially since we were the receiving end of such sportsmanship.

Great moment from 2022 Beijing Olympics: speed skater Erin Jackson slipped during her qualifying trials for Team USA, so fellow American Brittany Bowe gave Erin her spot in the 500m so she could compete. Erin won a gold medal in 500m and Brittany won bronze in 1000m.

This is why i love the Olympic Games. Every 4 years i get reminded that there is something way bigger than races and nationalities, at the same time i get to witness how human beings continue pushing the limit. Please keep politics off the Olympic Games.

Tokyo 2021 was not the first time a gold was shared. In 2018 the German Francesco Friedrich and a Canadian athlete and their bobsleigh teams shared their gold after finishing with the exact same time after the final run.

Yes! The shared gold medal! Honestly, that moment made me have that there are good people in this world. Qatar and Italy deserves it, and of course Derek running with his father, is still the most heart touching moment.

What about in 1984 when the Yugoslav boxer who won the gold medal pulled Evander Holyfield (after Holyfield was controversially disqualified in his semi-final match) onto the gold medal stand from the bronze medal stand?

I would want to include my own country (Philippines) here. We waited 96 years to get gold. And we were so proud when Hidilyn Diaz won gold for us in Tokyo. It warmed our hearts and still resonates today.
