Self defence my ass. Candy WENT to Bettys house of free will (Betty didnt lure her or anything) and Candy was the one who had an affair with her husband. Her story was such a big lie it made me sick. She was likely upset that Allan had ended things and he was successfully working on his marriage with Betty, it killed Candy. Also the fact that Betty could of been pregnant again, infuriated Candy. She picked up that axe, like a psycho, and murdered that woman. That woman was her competition and Candy was sick of losing to her. Its crazy how both Allan and Candys husband, stood by Candy during the trial. Especially Allan, since he had supposedly worked on his marriage with Betty and was in love with her again. Betty wasnt perfect but she didnt try to kill Candy and just wanted a good relationship with her husband, she was never given justice and her story was never told. Its crazy how every media made about this situation focuses on Candy and makes her the main character, its so unfair for Betty. Also how is it legal for Candy to become a licensed therapist after standing trial for murder?

You know everybody wants to defend Betty, but Betty went after her with a hammer! And tried to kill her! So as far as Im concerned Betty kinda got what she deserved. If you dont want to end up murdered, then you shouldnt be swinging around an axe at someone trying to kill them. Especially when that person has severe trauma. like candy did everybody wants to say oh how can you leave a poor baby like that well, when you murder somebody now of course I would not know but Im assuming that thats probably the last thing she was worried about I mean she had severe blows to the head and wanted out not that it was right at all that was very very disturbing, but people are so quick to say how bad Candy is but yet Betty was just as crazy! whatever!

She definitely was guilty she did it on purpose I think Allan dumped her and she got hurt and start another affair maybe to get back at him but realized its not working and wait for Alan maybe he started seeing her again but then found out he moved on and expecting another child so got upset and she somehow found out that Betty is alone home so she committed it in hope maybe after her death they started affair again. I just found out that candy's daughter is living with her thats upsetting me now she latterly cheated and breaked her family hurt her father and her and she forgive her and living with her. If my mum cheated on my father I'm gonna torture her psychically and mentally enough maybe one day she'll kill me or her self.

America operates under a feminist court system. Women get off scot-free for the same crimes men go to prison for. Just like that other woman who negligently left her baby in the back seat of her car on an extremely hot day with the windows rolled up while she went grossary shopping and the child died from the soaring temperature inside that vehicle. Yup, you guessed it, she did NOT go to jail, now if that had been the baby's father he would have been given a life sentence. This case truly shows how biased, prejudiced and unequal the justice system is. Most men are well aware of this having been chewed up and spat out by the family court and the divorce court system respectively.

She wasn't good person, mother and wife and definitely not a innocent. And somehow I believe Allan and she made a plan together coz he didn't evan give benefit of the doubt that his wife maybe busy or going out for maybe grocery shopping or just met her firends or something like that he just start calling everyone neighbors his friends to check in on his house like ke knows something happened he was definitely involved in murder of his wife.

Betty was a self-sufficient teacher and Candy was a bored stay at home wife who married well, needed attention and probably was always competitive with Betty. Candys lies are being recycled for popular fiction at Betty's expense. Its disrespectful to Betty and her kids to keep portraying her as the attacker, and inherently unfair that she never got to tell her side of the story.

This story puts a pit in my stomach that makes me want to puke! Imagine being such a vile creature that youd throw a baby shower for the woman whose husband your sleeping with. Then turn around and not only murder her but leave that poor innocent baby alone for HOURS. Regarding if Betty attacked first or not, Candy should have been thrown in prison for this.

Story is about candy. She's a piece of work. Got it covered it. let's talk real quick about Allen.
1. Dude cheats
2. Wife gets un-alived and after she's gone he gets remarried and not even to the chick he was cheating with.
3. He let's his deceased wife's parents adopt both of his children.
He just goes on about his life. Wow

What I have seen constantly over the years that In America if your white and middle class you can get away with murder. It is without question the most dishonest judicial system on the planet. The portrayal of Bettys behavior towards the adopted boy is made up and dishonest. I hope the family sue. As for Candy I wont waste my breath.

I don't see where there is any evidence of self defense. Candy struck Betty with an axe 40 times, gouged her eyes out, and left her baby to die. She then picked up the kids and went to a movie. Yet, the jury believed everything Candy said. She got away with murder. Justice was not served for Betty Gore and her family.

For real?
Candy is innocent
If she had the desire to kill Betty she wouldnt use a axe from the house, would go to meet her carrying something. Plus, after her stopped seeing Allan she didnt keep checking him up, she letted go.
The 41 hits seems to be an instint for survival + rage after getting hit

I thought the miniseries on Hulu was exceptional. I'm a born and bred Texan and it's really interesting that a jury found Candy not guilty then. Now TX has the most people on Death Row and executes more people annually than any other state in America.

I don't know much about psychology, but I want to ask those that do if it's possible that a repressed traumatic memory could lead to someone hacking up another person all of a sudden. I personally have my doubts, but then again, I'm not a psychologist.

Crazy that she got off on self defense despite hacking away 41 blows. With her small frame, she would have had to take breaks between blows. Not to mention taking a shower, leaving the baby and not calling the police initially

Candy looked mad at the end when her husband told her Shelley probably left because she didn't wanted her to mess with her husband. Shelley probably was scare that the man Candy refused to name in court was her own husband.

I moved to garland in 1980 and we stayed at the como motel while trying to grind a house to rent. I like the way they showed how simple things were then. The suburbs were of Dallas were a good place to be in the 80s.

Shame on that jury for setting a muderous sociopath free. I saw the movie that starred Barbara Hershey on Lifetime in 1990. Jessica did an excellent job in her portrayal of Candy. I thnk Barbara did, too.

what a travesty.
if it was self defense, why didn't you call the police?
why did you just walk away, leaving a screaming baby behind?
why didn't you confess sooner?
what a cold hearted woman.

It wild to me that the majority of the comments dont think there was any chance of self defense. It's like yall think after you just killed someone who tried to kill you, you would act rationally

Yeah it was shocking but i blame the jury. Remember OJ? the reason he went free was because the black jurors didnt want to spend anymore time there and freed him because he was black.

Very surprised his jury not only acquitted her but didn't say it was suicide!
FFS. how many whacks with an ax does it takes for it to be considered a murder? ###

Self defense is not plausible to me. Someone who is simply defending themselves from another person wouldnt casually go see a movie like nothing happened.

I found Betty so needy and annoying, and truly a horrible mother. The way she treated kids in school and that poor orphan boy. Great job by the actress
