Funny, I watched Watership Down as a kid and thought it was perfectly fine. It's just a nature documentary where the animals talk
The crows in Dumbo aren't stereotypes. There were people at the time who talked like that. Is it a negative stereotype for Snoop Dogg to say fo shizzle? Also the name Jim Crow being linked to other things is irrelevant as it's not promoting what you're linking it to
The criticism around South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut literally proves the point made in the film
There is nothing wrong with Song of the South. It wasn't idyllic. This just shows people didn't watch the film. It was made to oppose racism

6: I dont see why the NDA wouldnt give this movie the rating the company wanted in the first place.
5: My brother read Antz to me at 9, and I was perfectly fine. A Bugs Life, however traumatized me as a child and is one of the few Pixar movies I actually dont like.
4: Wait, people left during Fox and the Hound? I had no idea that this was happening during the filming of one of my favorite Disney movies.
3: What even is this?
2: Why was this banned again? No one was owned.
1: See 3.

I'm still traumatized by watching the 1978 Watership Down film from watching it with my grandparents. I also watched Song of the South and I will admit it is a very heavy undertone of racism but I found out the actor singing Zippity-Doo-Dah is from my hometown of Indianapolis, and it still is one of my favorite 1940s Disney movies and this is coming from an African American

No one ever talks about the Thief and the Cobbler. I have seen the whole cobbled edition and it is amazing. I wish they would finish it and release it on something. This list only covers Animated movies too bad someone should open up a can of worms and talk about the controversy about the original Wizard of Oz movie.

I have made it well into my adult life and I never got around to seeing Watership Down. I only keep hearing about how infamous it is. I guess I'm glad I wasn't exposed to it as a kid, from all the stories people have being traumatized by it. Maybe it's time to see what the fuss is about and cross it off my watch list.

Most of my favourite animated films tend to be a tad controversial. Happy to see this list actually exists. However I do wish they mentioned HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, CORALINE, PARANORMAN, SHREK 2, ISLE OF DOGS, PUNI PUNI POEMY, JUNGLE BURGER (SHAME OF THE JUNGLE, KEKKO KAMEN. or LE BIG BANG? THE SIMPSONS MOVIE even?

A friend of mine told me that watership down was just like FernGully or studio Ghibli movies. We watched it with my kids who were 9 & 6 yo at the time. My son slept in my bed with me for almost a week, and had nightmares about it for years. That was the last time I trusted her about media content.

Yeesh, based on the comments, maybe Watership Down should have been number one. Maybe it wasnt the most scandalous, but it seems to have caused the most trauma. Is that the one where the hedgehogs get run over by a truck? Idk if its another movie but its been embedded in my brain for decades

Many people not only wrongly believe that animation equals children viewership but comics too; I still remember how children began to cry at the opening scene of X-Men: First Class and they had to stop the movie and demand parents to either calm their kids or get out. Half of the room left

How is Watership Down so low on this list? Traumatizing kids by giving the movie the wrong rating is worse than the Crows in Dumbo. Besides, they were likable characters who got Dumbo through a difficult part of his life. The Dumbo remake was a disaster through and through. -_-

The crows aren't the only problem with Dumbo. The main characters (including the equivalent of a child) accidentally get drunk, while an entire musical number plays around the idea!
Besides, the stereotypes used with the Indians in Peter Pan are arguably even worse!

Even though it's a parents job to determine what is appropriate for a child to watch or not doing reasearch on the subject matter is quite important. Most of the movies were not created for children sadly corporations just want to make money and usually label incorrectly.

I was probably 10 when I saw Watership Down, so not young enough to be easily scared, I turned it off during the terrifying cave in scene, and it STILL gave me nightmares, I was born in the mid seventies, so it's not even like it was because it was from a different era.

They could've even mentioned ANTZ or ROGER RABBIT on here for being a tad too adult for its intended audience?
I doubt a PG animated film like that with that kind of swearing and innuendo would pass through the producers and distributors had it been made now?

Some of these, you don't say the original lines. Like for Aladdin- the original lyric was where they cut off your ear, if they don't like your face, its barbaric but hey its home. I feel like its important to say the real line not just say people were offended

I don't get the issue with the crows. They just sound like a regular squad having a regular conversation. I've worked with all sorts of people that talk with their nature. Sure, much of the slang is modern, but it's not too different from the context.

If you're wondering what the original lyrics that got changed in Arabian Nights were, it was, Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face. It's barbaric, but hey, it's home. Now you know why this was controversial and NEEDED to be changed.

It's weird how they had a whole segment on the black stereotype crow characters in Dumbo but didn't acknowledge the even more obvious black stereotype crow characters shown in the clips from Fritz the Cat lol

Watership Down was a very disturbing movie. The part where captain Holly explains what happened to the Warren was especially creepy and does not help with my fear of the dark. And I'm 25 for Pete's sake!

The Plague Dogs is absolutely horrifying. I was physically upset from watching it and had to look away from most of it: ( I can't fathom why someone would WANT to make a film about animal suffering.

When do we stop judging movies and books for their depiction of something even if its appropriate for their time?
It would be more important to talk about those matters. Not prohibiting and censoring them.

I almost watched Watership Down when I was in about 4th grade. Before I could, my mom turned the TV off quickly, and told me I was too young to be watching it. So glad I didn't watch this as a kid.

Sausage party was genuinely one of the worst movies ive seen. You can always tell its going to be bad too when you go in to the movie theater and they give you a survey before the movie starts.

WATERSHIP DOWN never disturbed me. Saw it quite late in my life- 11. Now, animation-wise, ELFEN LIED, SPEED GRAPHER, and on some level HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME due to its perceived touch on real issues.

That's Why I prefer 2018 version of Watership Down. Definitely less scary.
I see that around 75% comments are about that animated version which managed to scare the daylights out of People.

Watership Down was definitely a PG movie. A bit too strong for the youngest ones.
As for the Crows in Dumbo, needless to say I haven't really actually liked them much.
