I had wanted a Live Action version now that Disney has its rights BUUUUUT, since they tend to change lots of things from the original plots, (in addition, considering the changes made for the Broadway version, they would tear the story apart.
I know it's so historically innacurate but I found it very pleasing and entertaining as kid.
Now, as an adult, (history aside, the movie is quite good! It's basically a musical romcom with magic and fantasy.
Anya breaks the stereotypes of the damsel in distress from Disney movies (before Fiona came along, and she is determined, confident, strong, independent, SARCASTIC QUEEN and stands up for herself. She never let Dimitri to boss her around. She was funny and brave and yet, she remained hopeful, she still longed for a family and love and ironically she found it on the conman guy who is tricking her to get his reward. Not to mention, that guy happened to be the kitchen boy who helped her scape.
And Dimitri? Omg! What a character development that was! He didn't take the money of tje reward cause he'd fallen in love with Anya! Who was the lost dutchess he'd been looking for! The romantic tension between them was amazing! The teasing and the bickering!
This movie ROCKS!
Also, Men are such babies ICONIC

I love this video!
Anastasia is my second favorite princess movie right behind The Swan Princess.
I love the Disney Princess movies and Ariel is my main favorite princess of all time but I cannot deny The Swan Princess and Anastasia movies are my main favorite princess movies. :)
One question though why was Anastasia chosen out to be the missing person among her siblings?
Why was she the one who people claimed to be and not the others?
Was it because she was the only one missing?

I have always been fascinated with her and her sisters, especially after I read the Royal Diaries book about her. When I found out what really happened to her, I have to admit Ive always been salty about the movie and Broadway musical. Although, I did actually meet Liz Callaway, who did the singing for Anastasia, and saw the Broadway show, and met the actress (she even sang me happy birthday. Still I knew that the whole movie wouldnt exist if innocent children hadnt been brutally murdered.

Don Bluth's Anastasia is one of my all time favorite films! and the fact that the movie is partly based on a true story makes it all the more interesting. and even though there are many who believe that the real life Anastasia might've actually escaped the war and lived all i can say is even if she did escape she'd definitely be dead by now, because by now she'd be like 122 years old.

I knew the history Maily from Oversimplified before I watched the movie, I also danced to Once Upon a December in my ballet class, but I do admit being a bit very much a history nerd the inaccuracies in the movie drove me crazy, though one thing I noticed is that Tsar Nicholas and Grigory Rasputin actually look like the real people.

Im not saying this was a good movie but Im concerned that the wrong story was being told. Anastasia wasnt just a fairy tale out of a book. She was an actual princess who died a tragic death and I dont like that they took something so dark and covered it in sugar just so it would be appropriate for children

Slight correction: They called the Palace in the movie the Catherine Palace, which wasn't in St. Petersburg but otherwise, looks a lot like the real one. However, the Romanovs never lived in it, but the smaller Alexander Palace. It was their last home before going to Siberia.

Shes very much a real person. Im gonna give you all some context for you to truly understand. Prince Philips (husband of Queen Elizabeth) mom and uncle are her first cousins. Plus Philips older sisters did play with Anastasia herself.

The big problem with Pocahontas was its historical inaccuracy. Not like the animators were going for that lol. Historical accuracy doesnt equal greatness! But again, Anastasia looks great! I want to watch it.

Anastasia is such a good animated movie that shocked Disney because they had a worthy competitor during that time. Also Lenin and his Bolsheviks are a bunch of crazy inhumane savages for killing Anastasia and her family!

It's kinda sad that Rasputin was treated as some sort of demonic zombie in the animated movie since he was really just a close family friend. The only thing I can fault him on is using alternative medicine.

If you ask me, Rasputin and his villain song are the best parts of the movie. I will never understand why they cut both of them from the Broadway musical, and I will never see the musical because of it.

Look up how the Romanovs, including Anastasia, were murdered. There is nothing cute about making a Disney film out of someone who had to watch her family get shot in bludgeoned to death.

Harder to verify? Um, no, it's well known Anastasia had a music box, just a different one from the film. Hers probably had a ballerina on it. Most likely it was a gift from her grandmother, though.

I am only now realising (I've never watched Anastasia) this is the same plot for the 70's Disney film starring preteen Jodie Foster, Candleshoe. One of my all-time favourites.

Nicholas shouldnt have listened so much to Rasputin because of his poor judge of character as well as decision making the Soviets came into power.

Jadwiga,
For me the best moment of this movie was when her family members were coming from the painting and then she was dancing with her dad, so sad.

I always adored this movie growing up, and it's fascinating to know the real story about Anastasia. It's like an unconventional history lesson!

The real anastasia should deserve to finally reclaim her true identity and not be seen as a fairytale character, she was only a child
