Where's the Emperor's New Groove? Originally it was going to be a musical entitled Kingdom of the Sun, and be a Prince and The Pauper story with Pacha (voiced by Owen Wilson instead of John Goodman) and Manco (changed to Kuzco) looking exactly alike and swapping places. Only when a version of Yzma, who's intention was to create eternal night to preserve her youth, finds out about this she turns Manco into a lama, and blackmails Pacha into doing her bidding. Then Manco teams up with and eventually falls for a female lama herder named Mata to get him back to the palace, while Pacha falls in love with Manco's bride to be Nina. Also instead of Kronk there was Huaca, a little stone servant voiced by Harvey Fierstein. And there was going to be songs written by Sting, most famously the Yzma song Snuff Out the Light.

Frozen would've been a MILLION times better if it had stuck with the original draft of having Elsa be the villain instead of some misunderstood heroine (along with being more true to The Snow Queen and improving upon it's source material like many Disney animated classics that came before. I mean, she wasn't gonna be just another typical Disney villain. In fact, she was supposed to be a morally-gray one like John Silver in the underrated masterpiece, Treasure Planet. But NO. Let It Go happened and everything about Frozen was completely changed for the WORSE at the very last minute. That was not only one of Disney's BIGGEST mistakes, but also one of the DUMBEST decisions they've ever made.

Zootopia, Tangled, and The Emperor's New Groove also have their original different version. Zootopia, a Disney furry movie, is supposed to be a spy film series that told the missions of a bunny secret agent named Jack Savage. Tangled, a Grimm Fairy Tale movie has two different origins. One takes place in modern times and the other is a darker version that contains Rapunzel's love interest, Bastian is similar to Kristoff from Frozen. In the origin of The Emperor's New Groove, the faces of Pascha and Kuzco are the same and Yzma has her song.

For me it would be Mulan because it was the first film that my then wife Angy saw together on our first date I still have fond memories of it, but like in life things change I'm now 50 years old and a stroke and cardiac arrest and colon cancer survivor and use a wheelchair when I'm outside of my apartment building here in downtown Hamilton Ontario Canada we got married in '99 and devorced since 2010 with no kids, but still love the movie

When they decided to get rid of Aladdins mother a great song called Proud of Your Boy was cut from the movie the idea was that Aladdin would walk off and sing about how he was going to make his mother proud of him but when they decided to get rid of the mother there was no need for the song luckily the song lives on the Broadway musical

Not sure if it counts as completely different, but Zootpoia was originally supposed to have a whole thing with collars for predators, but the creators realized they didn't like that world and so they scrapped it. Nick was even going to have a dad who was trying to pitch a new company, but the fox angle was still there.
reply

I really thought zootopia was going to be in this list as they did have a different plotline here all predators were meant to wear collars if they became too emotional as well as there as the scenario of Nick Wilde who was originally the main character (and was previously going to be a rabbit named jack savage.

Nice to see they considered other names for grandma willow and if her friends got a voice yes or no, but NEVER thought how disrespectful, inappropriate, inaccurate and most importantly disgusting Pocahontas could have looked. I mean the girl was basically a victim of human trafficking, like they always did.
reply

I do love Pocahontas because of what it did that was right, like the romance and racism, but it also has flaws that keeps it from being the best movie. Like a talking tree in this? REALLY? If it just talked to Pocahontas and/or John Smith it be ok but nope, it also acts out with two settlers! Ugh!

Camp Lazlo made a reference to Peter Pan from the episode Lumpus vs. the Volcano where Lazlo, Raj, Clam and Slinkman become Native Americans for the volcano spirit, which turns out to be a Chicken Pot Pie. Maybe WatchMojo should do Top 10 Cartoon Network Moments That Made Fans Rage Quit sometime

I was fully aware that Cruella would have made an appearance in rescuers but since they switched out with medusa, it was a very interesting thing to do since Cruella cared more about fur coats than diamonds, but Ursula as Ariel's sister now would've been a significant game changer.

I think Peter Pan, Inside Out, Moana, Mulan, Frozen and Toy Story were almost just fine the way they turned out. But as for a Monsters sequel, Im good with Monsters At Work. Im glad the Aladdin Broadway musical featured the original concepts that didnt make the final cut.
reply

bizarre mind blogging but a lot of these are classics originals you can't just fix movies differently that makes it more different and very not the same almost changed no way those classics need be left alone including anymore in the making
reply

The majority of Disney films are naturally different, as the original source material would be too dark or mature, story-wise. For example, Ariel doesnt get her happily ever after and dies in the Hans Christian Andersen tale.

The early drafts of Toy Story almost costed Pixar their entire establishment. Disney told them to fire people to which they refused. Then the team rewrote everything and took it further to make this finally layered masterpiece.
reply

I think its also worth noting about Toy Story, that the movie was originally mean spirited. Yeah, remember that horrendous Black Friday reel. That was so bad that Disney wanted Pixar to stop the production.
reply

That's what i love about Disney films like these, they all originally had plots that were either too dark or mature to use. just another thing to add to the pile of secrets that these particular films hold.
reply

You forgot a Disney film from the year 2000 that should've got a mention, The Emperor's New Groove. It was originally titled Kingdom of the Sun and went through a troubled development. What the heck, MsMojo?
reply

is it weird that woody from the first movie gave me nightmares? he seemed like jerk to little 5 year old me when i first watched it. he still feels like a jerk in the first one to me tho
reply

The Emperors New Groove and Zootopia should have been contenders for this list. Im not gonna repeat the way they were originally different as many others have already done so in the comments.
reply

Not to mention Dinosaur. Since Chris Farley was casted as Sorbus, but then he died too soon, as well as to be casted as Shrek. Not to mention Noah. Because I saw it in the concept animation.
reply

The original character of Woody was actually so unlikeable that the movie was said to have been hard to watch. It cost Disney soooooo much money because the whole script had to be re written
reply

I heard about the Monsters inc sequel from awesomemay. The reason why it got canceled was because a whole other studio called Disney circle 7 animation was gonna make it instead of Pixar
reply

Believe it or not, Redfeather the turkey was supposed to be voiced by John Candy. But because of his tragic death in 1994, Redfeather was scrapped and the animal friends remained silent.
reply

You forgot to add that, in one draft of Toy Story, Woody was supposed to be a complete bully who would've deliberately thrown Buzz out the window rather than do it by accident.
reply

Yes you forget to mention The Emperors New Groove, Toy Story 2 and 3, Lady and the Tramp, Cinderella, The Lion King, Tangled, A Bugs Life, Wreck-it Ralph and a few more.
reply

I mean when you think about it the original Aladdin script with no abu and rajah is basically the musical plot, they had high adventure in the plot originally.
reply

If you ask me despite the differences in these Disney movies they still hold a nostalgic charm charm memories that makes us want to live up to their legacy SOME DAY!
reply

You forgot that the merrie men were originally going to appear in Robin Hood, but Wolfgang wanted to do a buddy comedy, so little Jon was the onley one to appear in it
