I took ballroom dance lessons many years ago, and I learned a number of these dances. As far as the Latin dances I learned, the Cha Cha was pretty difficult, but I thought the Rumba was pretty easy. Im sure there are more complex moves I didnt learn, but I found the basic steps and turns and holds and whatnot to be easily mastered. As far as the Swing dances, I only was ever taught East Coast Swing. I also thought that one was easy, and probably my favorite dance to do. Swing was in back when I was taking professional instruction, so my then-boyfriend and I did a LOT of social dancing, and actually got INCREDIBLY good at some of the more complex maneuvers and some of the aerial stuff. Couldnt hack the acrobatics now 20 years later, but can still do the basic dance. Now I never was taught the other styles of Swing; those look MUCH harder! As far as the smooth ballroom dances, I was really surprised to see the Foxtrot so high up the list. I always found that one easy, and had no problems with the steps/turns/holds, the correct posture, the rise and fall, or any of that. I personally feel Foxtrot should have been lower down the list; the Viennese Waltz is MUCH more difficult imho. I will agree with the #1 pick, the Argentine Tango. Never personally learned that one, but I can absolutely see the degree of difficulty in it, and the need for absolute precision and flexibility, and the potential for accidentally injuring your partner!

I feel a better title would have been hardest ballroom dance to pull off except for maybe #10, these are all the most well known dances. Are they really the hardest in the world? I would have loved to see ones I didn't know. What about highland sword dancing? I mean, I could do a passable swing dance after an hour at a club in university, the basics aren't that hard. I will give it to you once you get into aerials/lifts, it's challenging. Irish ceili you have to have always have one arm and a 90 degree stiff angle, other completely straight at your side, shoulders back, head up, smiling, legs crossed, toes pointed, lifting, feet turned out. Then come the steps, which have to be exact and flawless so as not to crash into other couples or step on feet, and memorized to that specific dance. Look up three tunes, which is a lot of fun, but 3 different dance tempos ( jig, reel hornpipe I think) twice.

Argentine Tango can be those things. It can also be a quiet, contemplative conversation, or a shared meditation. It is accessible to all - young, old, athletic or not. One of my favorite partners has a disability that limits how he can step. Argentine Tango is the only dance he can do safely, and he does it beautifully. And BTW, only rude gauche people do ganchos and other weedwhacker steps on a social dance floor, unless the floor is large and very uncrowded. Those stilettos are weapons.

You forgot POSTURE & Keeping your Buttocks Tucked IN. . that's what makes these dances hard (Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, Quick-Step, Tango/Argentine Tango). . If you are one who loves to dance, then these CAN BE Easy to learn with the right Teacher/Coach/ Instructor. However The Man Leads The Woman; his job is to show her off but hold her in such a gentleman's way that he is supposed to know what he is doing and she has to TRUST him while being in his arms/holding his hands.

You need to be clear that youre referring to international Latins Rumba and Cha Cha, as American rhythm also has both of those dance styles. However, the tempo is different for each and the technique utilizes the development of the knee through each step, not stepping on a straight knee. I prefer Latin over rhythm, but rhythm is more common in the US and is far more social when youre out dancing in a ballroom or social dance setting.

Great list! While they definitely take time, practice and of course trust and comfort with the right partner/teacher and song for each dance, once you get the basic steps down, it can be rather easy from there and really are alot of fun once you get the hang of them! Samba, cha cha, rumba, foxtrot, east coast swing, (slow) Viennese waltz, and standard tango are among my favorite dances, strictly as an eclectic fun, social hobby!

I've danced 7 out of the 10 (8 if you include paso doble) this video took me back to the days when I had to learn the basics of these dances. It's instinctual now, but in reality these dances are fairly difficult. I was surprised how far up fox trot got, but otherwise a fantastic video! So glad to see these dances get some love, ballroom will always be something I cherish

I do partner dancing and I love so many of these dances. I do agree argentine tango is really hard but its so beautiful. Idk if I would pick it as my hardest because for me it was easier compared to other dances I learned.

Meredith Klein who described the improvisation for the Argentine Tango portion is an excellent tango teacher and organizer in Philadelphia. Nice to see that MsMojo did their homework on it.

The footage of Meryl and Maks during the Argentine Tango section shouldn't be there, they were performing a traditional tango in that video.

For #5, was anyone other than me low-key worried about the female dancer's heels falling in the drain hole in the floor she was dancing on?

Yeah, lumping the different styles of swing into one was not wise. Lindy Hop is clearly the most challenging and deserves to be separate.
