The 80s were the golden decade of dance songs. For this list, well be ranking the 1980s dance songs that still make us wanna get up, get down and get totally radical. Our countdown includes Fame, Maniac, Holiday, and more! Do any of these 80s jams make YOU nostalgic, even if you werent there?

Lip syncing was a typical aspect of BBCs Top of the Pops, but New Order refused to lip sink for their 1983 TOTP performance of Blue Monday. Give credit to New Order for not backing down, but their performance sounded bad. I cant believe I have to defend the BBC here, but theres a reason why most music shows have bands lip sync. These bands are given very little time to set up, and theyre working with a sound crew they dont know. When youre working with a sound crew who doesnt know how you like to sound, theres a big chance of something going wrong. Therefore, its easier to lip sync rather than actually sing.

Great list and choices but I Wanna Dance With Somebody at 4 & Holiday at 2 is an undeniable mistake. I hear Whitney every other day and that song anytime I go out. I almost never hear Holiday. It was a great song and big then, but Whitney's songs, influence & talent overshadowed Madonnas then and in some respects still now. I Wanna Dance With Somebody is still in rotation in clubs today. Sorry MsMojo but you are wrong for this.
MJ is clearly always gonna be number 1. Super Freak is a top contender as well but not over those 2 songs at this point.

Funny Strory: My sister and I both love playing musical trivia games against each other. name that song, pick a song that will cause the other person to laugh OR have their head explode. Fun family time had by all EXCEPT for Relax. For nearly a decade (pre-internet) she would flatly state The Pet Shop Boys did it and that Frankie Goes to Hollywood did Opportunities. We had to sit her down once it was online and how her both videos. She apologized but also blamed the Mandela Effect.

What about Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go & Hungry Like the Wolf!
I dont know why, but I always group Karma Chameleon & Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go together, theyre a packaged deal in my mind.
MJ can have his own list, you can dance to all his songs! Love & miss the King of Pop!
I do not like Funky Town or Pump Up the Jam or whatever its called, at all. The latter I blame for the dance that came out in the early 90s, like C&C Music Factory & 2Unlimited

This list is questionable without Rick Astley - never gonna give you up, Donna Summer -She works hard for the money, Phil Collins - she's an easy lover, Madonna - get into the groove, Whitney Houston - emotional, Billy Ocean with loverboy, Get out of my dreams, when the going gets tough, and Caribbean Queen.
I think your choices were designated for a certain demographic in in the west

Looking at this list youd never know gay HINRG ruled the club scene. Straight washing Divine
The Boys Town Gang
The Pet Shop Boys
Erasure
Sylvster
The Flirts
And so, so many more
Dont you want me by The Human League is a great dance track

reply

So not one Janet Jackson or Paula Abdul song made this list? WOW. I mean WOW.
I seriously think you guys are just throwing darts at song names at this point because Nasty and Straight Up definitely belonged on this list.
Im shocked those werent even HMs.

reply

Footloose and Don't you want me needs to be included. You could cut for instance Animotion and the first of the hiphop songs for that (they seem out of place. Also think that it is the wrong madonna song on here.

I enjoyed watching this video, but please get rid of that tinkly piano that's playing under the narration it takes away from the narration and it sounds very annoying, especially if you're talking about dance music!

Queen shouldve been in here with either another one bites the dust or radio ga ga and Lionel Richie shouldve been in here with dancing on the ceiling. Heck even Kenny loggins shouldve been in here with footloose

Some other favorites:
Dont Get Me WrongThe Pretenders
TendernessGeneral Public
Make a Move On MeOlivia Newton John
Self-ControlLaura Brannigan
Chains of LoveErasure

I'd add Lambada (Kaoma, Touch Me (Samantha Fox, Miss You Much (Janet Jackson, Footloose (Kenny Loggins. By the way, Madonna also had Into the Groove and that song was even bigger than Holiday
reply

Madonna should have at least two songs on the list, Get Into the Grove along with holiday should have been #1 & #2. Blue Monday should been top 10, to this day it can still fill a dance floor.

80s dance tunes sucked just as much as 70s disco tunes. MTV was destroyed when they caved under pressure to play Billie Jean from Michael Jackson, turning a pedophile into a smash hit.
reply

These are NOT the songs we danced to in clubs on Saturday night. Maybe they were played on the radio, but NOT in nightclubs, discos, or in bars w/big dance floors. Nope.
reply

See, i thought let the music play by shannon really represented what dance music in the 80s was all about. Way more than karma chameleon, lets go crazy or billie jean.
reply

Feeling old now, I graduated in the 80s, fell in love and was married and had my first child in the 80s. These were the songs of my life as a young woman. Thanks for the

Oh my goodness gravy on mashed potatoes. There are so many bangers on this list. I guess I better get my white shirt on for some home goodie Dirty Dancing.
reply

I Cant Wait by Nu Shooz? Lookout Weekend, I Wonder If I Take You Home, I Wanna Be Rich, Rock The Casbah, Lets Dance, Modern Love, Dont Wanna Fall In Love
reply

I know most of theses songs, because i sometimes play them on my music playlist, such as Salt N Pepper Push It, Pump Up The Jam and sometimes others.
reply

No way. Madonna should have been first, and there's only one dance song of her possible to select as the Best 80s Dance Song: Into the Groove!
reply

Great list. But two that are certainly missing are
Its Raining Men and Tarzan Boy
Both are classics and I hear everywhere still.

reply

Pump Up The Jam had a fake front woman in the video but when the real singer sang the song on SNL she proved even more charismatic.
reply

Taylor Dayne's voice is definitely overrated! You Spin Me Right Round always reminds me of the beginning of The Wedding Singer.
reply

How is Footloose not on this list? I seriously cannot hear this song without breaking into dance! It's iconic and should be top 3
reply

As a 10 yr old it totally went over my head relax was staged in a gay bar. Good thing my Mom never noticed what was on MTV
reply

Let's Go Crazy and I Wanna Dance with Somebody should have been way higher up on this list. They're forever jams.
reply

I thought Push it and some other ones were 90s songs, I didn't even know that, wow, that fooled me, literally
reply

Im #searching a song that girls in chorus says like: love love love,
