From stylistic shifts to maturing subject matter, these artistic risks paid off. For this list, well be looking at the pop stars who successfully changed up their music. Our countdown includes Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus, Cher, and more! Whats an artist and a potential genre that would go well together?

Cher deserved the #1st Spot for how she change her style in 7 consecutive decades:
1960s - Folk I Got You Babe, All I Really Want to Do
1970s - Disco Take Me Home, Hell on Wheels
1980s - Rock If I Could Turn Back Time, Dead Ringer for Love
1990s - Dance Pop Believe, Strong Enough
2000s - Euro Pop Song for the Lonely, When The Money's Gone
2010s - Musical Movies Welcome to Burlesque, Fernando
2020s - Alternative/Indie Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Walls
I mean, she's literally the Queen of Reinvention.

I think Britney should be in a top of this countdown because she has reinvented herself many times since 2001. Britney is the best. Britney Spears the one true Queen of Pop now thanks to Madonna passing the torch to her at the 2003 VMAs. Madonna's a fan of Britney, and of course we all know that Britney is a huge fan of hers just like everybody from that generation like me of course Britney another notable singers

Stop insinuating Xtina copied Gaga. If Ms MOJO actually did their research they'd know that Xtina had talked about going for a more futuristic electro pop sound and she talked about doing that during the Back to Basics era. That's how we got Keeps Getting Better from her greatest hits album that came out before Gaga debuted with Just Dance. Also Not Myself Tonight was a pretty clear Homage to Madonna

Taylor can do anything musically. I think people are going to be talking about her and her impact on music & pop culture for decades like they do with Bowie, Dylan, & Whitney. Also, so glad Bowie was #1 here. Even though I am not a fan of his music personally, I can not think of many people that had a bigger impact on music or inspired more people then he did.

Michael jackson going into the 90s had the new jack swing sound with the dangerous album, the for his HIStory/HIStory in the mix had a mix of new jack swing, rock and metal, classical, R&B and funk.
Not to mention the change in sound from the disco/post-disco in Off the wall/thriller to his BAD sound

I wanna say Prince should've been #1 on this list or otherwise it's just wrong. but he really is more than just a pop artist. Real talk- he had over 30 studio albums and he was a different person in almost every one. Just the change in him from album one all the way up to Sign o' the Times- mind-blowing!

Im sorry, but Xtina didnt attempt GAGAesque nothing, Gaga didnt invent electro pop, Xtinas take was inspired by ladytron (who collaborated in Bionic, Madonna and many pure electro artists, Bionic was already in the works before Gagas existence in the scene, the sound was less pop and more electro dance.

Sad to see neither of them made the cut for this list.

Shocked that Tina Turner nor Kyle Minogue got mentions. Tina Turner or Anna Mae Bullock as she was known started out doing gosple then met Ike did the blues also finding her own voice before finally breaking free.

David Bowie was the king of shaking things up. No two albums were alike, and it always made you curious what he'd do next. Whatever it was, it always sounded great. May this musical genius rest in peace.

Its kinda weird how the list isnt all pop girlies considering how female pop stars are more often forced to change their musical styles and personas throughout their careers to compete for industry relevance.
reply

Bowie and Madonna will never be overtaken given how fickle the music industry is now. An artist is lucky to stay relative for a decade versus 40 and 50 years for Madonna and Bowie, respectively.

Next? Top 10 artists who seems to have disappeared (based on when the last time they last released an album. not counting artists who took a break for their health)
reply

I'm not usually a fan of Rock. But I gave David Bowie all my respect after seeing him on a Christmas special opposite Bing Crosby with 'Little Drummer Boy'.

Michael Jackson did reinvent himself. He started in a soul boy band and experimented with disco, rock, new jack swing, gospel and more
reply

any sound change makes new waves like a forest fire any of them are catchy ear worm or even dance able I absolutely hate wrecking ball
reply

Mariah Carey is not on this list? She left A/C and pop ballads for hip-hop and R&B/pop sounds, especially during the Butterfly era.
reply

Not Pop But Papa Roach When They Ditched Their Nu Metal sound for a Hard Rock groove which paid off like Linkin Park did
reply

Rihanna is reinventing her sound every era or album release. Loud is super different from other albums. As well as Anti

These artists sure know how to innovate. Props to them for experimenting with what they could be capable of doing.
reply

How is John Mayer nowhere on this list? Pop? Folk? Blues? Rock? Almost every album he puts out is a different genre
reply

I know shes not well known in the US but Kylie Minogue literally re invents her sound and image with each album
reply

my 1st thought was Daris Rucker. he went from a pop group Hotie and the blowfish to singing country music.
reply

I agreed with Bowie and Madonna. Bowie dabbled with even hard rock with Tin Machine and Nine Inch Nails.
