All in the Family and Maude was all about trashing a particular party, week after week after annoying week. The Jeffersons got away with racial humor week after week after annoying week. MASH lost it's soul and my viewership after McLean Stevenson and Wayne Rogers left the show. I wasn't attached to those two actors, the series just became about Alan Alda being miserable and griping about EVERYTHING.

Kate & Allie - two recently divorced women who share an apartment & co-parent their three kids, Kate's daughter Emma, and Allie's daughter Allison & her son Chip. It's now streaming on Roku.
One Day at a Time, which inspired the recent reboot, with newly divorced Ann Romano raising her two daughters Julie and Barbara & working in advertising.

I’m glad to finally see The Andy Griffith Show on a list, even if only as an honorable mention. It’s one of my favorites. I’m 43, and I don’t know what it’s like to live in that simple and charming atmosphere, so I live vicariously through the show. The Golden Girls is another favorite of mine, but it rightfully gets plenty of love.

I feel that Designing Women should be on this list instead of Golden Girls as almost everyone I know has been watching Golden Girls forever in recent years and nobody really talks about Designing Women which Golden Girls stole a lot of content from.
And I’m a fan of both.
Also Who HASN’T seen I Love Lucy

I much prefer Betty White as Sue Ann Nivens. Please make a part 2 list for even more classic sitcoms that should be watched. I think the Dick Van Dyke Show, Family Ties, Dad's Army, Blackadder, and Only Fools and Horses should make the next list.
reply

Surprised that Happy Days, Chico and the Man, , Newhart, Mork and Mindy didn't make this list. Thankfully, M A S H, The Golden Girls, The Jeffersons, & Three's Company got noted.
Sitcoms were just way better during the 1970s-1980s.

MASH is one of my all-time favorite television shows, second is Cheers, one of the all-time greatest, honorable mention Growing Pains,
The Andy Griffith Show, The Facts Of Life, Gilligan's Island.

Even though Bill Cosby has a tarnished reputation, I dont think it should take away from the great work done on The Cosby Show, its a terrific sitcom and should have been on this list.
reply

my great grandparents loved andy griffin and mash and I love lucy. they fought in WW2. you can tell that those shows in particular helped bring up that generation's spirits
reply

Different Strokes should've at least got an honorable mention. Not only was it a great sitcom, but it also taught important life lessons such as the dangers of hitchhiking.
reply

I don't disagree with any of these. In fact, I own most of them on DVD. There are probably a hundred others that could be on this list. You can't please everyone.
reply

Sanford and Son as it was my dad’s favorite sitcom. It aired during the initial stages of the surge of black sitcoms and I hope they don't reboot or remake it.
