Top 10 Things We HATED About the Gilmore Girls Revival I feel like a lot of the decisions for the revival were based on how can we still put in the script the ideas we had for the original show? and everyone was just okay with the outcomes.
Like:
- How are we gonna have Lorelai and Luke getting married if they were already planning to get married 10 years ago? Simple: we will just state that they never ever talked about it ever again and remind people that they always had communication issues even though its been 10 years.
- How are we gonna make Rory get pregnant if she and Logan broke up 10 years ago? We will get them back together. But if she was married to Logan the pregnancy wouldnt be as shocking as it was supposed to be 10 years ago, so were gonna make them have an affair where both of them are committed to other people.
- How are we gonna make Rory go back to Stars Hollow now that she is an adult and would have no reason to keep going back to her mothers house all the time? Lets make her a failed journalist who has no permanent house because she has no job.
Also, they couldve come up with better excuses and reasons for literally everything. Like, Sookie doesnt appear because she left the inn? Why would she do that? It was her dream, they took years to figure everything out, she was a partner, her biggest joy was cooking in the inn, plus she had a whole family in Stars Hollow. They couldve just said that she took some time off for some reason, that she took a much-deserved break, not that she straight-up left. They couldve also made some long-distance appearances like her facetiming Lorelai or calling or texting, because the way they wrote it made it seem like Sookie just got tired of Lorelai and left and they were not as close anymore.\r\n

They didnt do Rory right. I didnt find Rory particularly likeable in the original series, but I still wouldnt have said she was selfish. Young Rory does a lot of people pleasing, often going to great lengths to satisfy those around her.
Yes she was still bratty, snobby and annoying, but she did help others a lot for nothing in return. Shes also not afraid to apologise.
But what I find totally unrealistic is her sudden loss of work ethic? Young Rory is a massive worry wart. She studies every campus map and guidebook, turns up to her college classes hours early, goes to as many extra classes as she can, and her college life is spent studying and working on the paper when other kids are partying.
In highschool she has a lot of self motivation, to ignore her mothers constant temptations to blow off homework. She succeeds despite Lorelei imo. We see her learn not just her speeches but Paris too in case she has to fill in. Shes just never unprepared.
I just cant imagine her winging it for a job interview. More likely, shed be irritatingly over prepared.
I just dont believe such a neurotic personality becoming so careless.

Ok while I will agree with a lot in this video(particularly on the subject of fat shaming) I have to disagree with #1. If you look it up, the ending where Rory is pregnant was actually the ending that Amy Sherman-Palladino had wanted but was unable to make happen before leaving the show prior to Season 7. Having the original series end with Rory being pregnant was meant to have the show come full circle. I will say I prefer the original series ending of Rory putting her career first as it gave us all hope for things to come. As for the revival, Rory is 32 at the end of the series, the same age Lorelai was in episode one of the original series, bring the show full circle in a sense. While much of the revival was unnecessary, insulting, dissatisfying, and seemingly not thought out well, the ending did have a base in the original show, so its not unfair to assume this came out of nowhere or was a ploy to tease viewers, because it wasnt really. Other than that I agree with this entire list, I honestly dont really count the revival as canon, except that part where a future for Jess and Rory is teased.

Amy already stated that she never watched the final season of GG and the revival is the last season she planned for the original show. Of course, she had to change some things to adjust to the time jump but it is basically that.
If we think about it, her original plan was probably to end up with Lorelai and Luke getting married and maybe deciding to have a kid (because they were talking about it a lot in the 6th season already); Jess would come back to Stars Hollow for the wedding and there would still be a spark between him and Rory; Logan asking Rory to marry him and she says no because they are too young and then she gets pregnant at 22 right after graduation. It would be the full circle ending that Amy wanted, even though Lorelai gave Rory a completely different life and a good education Rory still gets pregnant, then fully becoming like her mom. I don't really like this idea but oh well thats what we got for the revival

OkayI agree with most of this. However, the hiking thing I get. I think Lorelei connected with Cheryl Strayed when she read the book during the summer episode. Most importantly, like Cheryl Strayed, she was navigating her foray into the death of her favorite parent. It can make you feel like youve lost your rudder, no matter what other sources of support you might have. She hoped to gain the same emotional clarity that Cheryl gained on the PCT. Through hiking isnt for everyone. Usually, within the first 100 miles, people have stopped and gone home. (Think Forest Gump when he stopped running. Some get what they needed during that time and some realize that the hike isnt what they needed. Lorelei didnt even need to set foot on the trail to get what she needed.

I think they did Rory right. Although Rory tried to prove she worked hard and wasnt entitled- she was. Her grandparents did set her course from ep 1. They paid, talked her up to everyone in their community she even attended coming out and the debby. Maybe she knew how to study a lot and write but you need more to succeed. Logans dad had it right - she didnt have it. Plus Rory always had a horrible love life. She never knew who she wanted more Dean or Jess. She was the other woman thinking she was right so it made sense shell continue being the other woman. She never truly care for her partner so she didnt care for Paul too

I'm a hardcore, die-hard GG fan. I have watched the original series in entirety 10 times, the first time of which was on tv in real time with my mom. This was our show.
The revival was very disappointing. And I find it hard to say that. I am a huge fan. Love ASP and have watched Marvelous Mrs. Maisel 3 times too!
Everytime I rewatch GG (which is 1x a year, I skip the revival. I don't think Rory's trajectory fit at all.
Also Lorelai and Luke still being in the same spot we left them all these years later does not compute. And lorelai going on a HIKE! Puhlease.

A lot of comments and people are missing the point: Rory ISN'T perfect. She was always told how great and amazing and smart she was, she was spoiled, reality would hit her sooner or later.
Her not succeeding in life is 1000 times more satisfying that her being little miss perfect and it is VERY real. A lot of people are still lost and struggling at 32. She is the opposite of her mother, who at that age had so much for her.
Lorelai was a friiend first and mother second to Rory, which was a fatal flaw.

Its easier to point out the good parts of AYITL because there were far fewer of them than the bad. What I thought was good? Emily, Paris, the adult relationship between Jess & his uncle Luke, the fact that Michel got a better job and was moving on with his life, Christopher FINALLY bowing out of the Lorelai race and promising to Rory to leave her Mom and Luke alone once and for all.
Those were all good aspects of these 4 shows.

reply

I didn't understood at all why Luke and Lorelei never talked in 9-10 years about children or marriage again as these were huge topics in general in the whole series. It makes no sense that this was never a topic between them in all this time. I expected a child/children and/or a wedding anniversary maybe and Rorys Marriage for example, with a complete new but handsome guy. I think I need to reed fanfictions: -)

I think the problem with the revival was that it wasn't really a revival. It was the final season Amy Palladino originally wanted. Why else would these characters still be stuck where they were? Rory turned down Logan's proposal yet 10 years later she's helping him cheat on his fiance? It was nice to see the characters again but the whole thing was very badly done.
reply

I think Rory has always been selfish and I mean she didnt even go to her moms graduation because she was fawning over Jess. I understood Logans appeal because he came from money and was exciting. This show could easily go on for many more seasons and ppl would watch. Theres a lot of potential but the revival could have been better.

I really hate how they brought logan. It felt like he just became everything he worked so hard to get away from. I am definitely team logan and the end of the OG series gave us no closure for him and then the reboot just ruined all the character development he had in season 7 surrounding his father and his father's company.
reply

TOTALLY agree with your #1. I HATED those last 4 words because it was a slap in the face to fans and as far as I am concerned negated all the previous seasons because this smart young woman just up and repeated the actions of her mother. She learned NOTHING and our adventures with the pair were for not!
reply

Agreed with most and add one you missed. how all of the growth Logan had at the end of season 7, getting out from under the thumb of his father, and making it on his own. And then he just turned back into the weak kid who just does whatever his family tells him to do. That was a bummer.
reply

The worst part is that after all this time, Rory didn't get that Jess was the only guy who really loved her. He encouraged her to go back to Yale, he fought for her and he told her to write the book. But she rather stays with the characterless-using-daddy's-money Logan.
reply

I think most hated about the relationship its Lorelei and Emily, its Emily its still same controlling and favoring her granddaughter over her daughter and but Lorelei is still trying her the best as she can to be good person and Emily gets mad at her for no reason.
reply

I hated Rory in the revival. She was a spoiled brat. She was unprofessional. She slept around, including with a man who who was engaged. She treated Paul like crap. Now Emily was nice to watch be a bit more compassionate, and find herself after Richard's passing.
reply

I didn't like the revival when I first saw it, but now, 7 years later I appreciate it a lot more. It's for sure a lot better than season 7. And I can relate to Rory being lost, doesn't mean she's a bad person and success in life comes in various different forms.
reply

all the crap show happened bcuz the writer Amy hated the final season of the original show, so she rewrites this out of pettiness and never bothered to watch the original final season which is why the revival was a waste of time. and it's so disappointing.
reply

After BARELY getting through the revival i never went back it was unfairly bad for the reputation of the og serie they so spoiled it for me it seems everyone was just there in the same position no improvement some of the characters even got worse
reply

The Wild storyline was so weird and out of character. It made absolutely no sense! Im glad Im not the only one hated that part. It was so unoriginal and unnecessary. They literally stole most of the plot from the book and stuck it into this revival
reply

I was so disappointed with the revival -- felt like they were done half-heartedly and totally out of characters for almost all. Most of all how entitled and unprofessional Rory was. What on earth happened to that sweet conscientious smart girl?
reply

i agree esp w the musical, waaay too much of the show, and lorelei going back packing and, lorelei n luke's communication, and rory and her relationships. still wanting a 20 year reunion. who's baby is it and will they be involved!
reply

Honestly, theres nothing they could have done to make everyone happy. Im just glad I got to see them together again, and I hope to see more in the future. However, I do agree about the length of the Stars Hollow play.
reply

Way too much Logan and way too less Jess! You'd think Jess would have gotten more screentime since he helped Rory the most in the revival and is probably going to have a major role in raising the baby with Rory!
reply

I was extremely disappointed in the Revival I really can't think of anything in the entire Revival that I can say anything good about. And I really, really do not like that they turned Rory into a bit of a tramp
reply

'enthusiastic stars hollow citizen'. You mean Sophie? Who was there since before rory went to Yale, and we got to know even more as the show goes on? Also, I loved Stars Hollow the Musical. Anyone else?
reply

I hate that Rory did not accept Logans proposal of marriage. They could have had a long engagement and she could have still done all those life experiences. She ends up carrying his baby anyway.
reply

I hated the revival. I hope it was a dream they both had and in the next Gilmore Girl remake or movie it begins with them waking up and calling each other about their shared nightmare.
