Sorry, Hulu's series ignores that many regard The Handmaids Tale as a bizarre White Feminist version of the Turner Diaries and its opposition as required reading in schools has never ceased. I read it when it first came out in the mid 1980s and its covert racism was subtle but quite apparent is why it's been removed from nearly every theatrical version since. Indeed I remember it was quite a debate in a college course where it was optional reading and many thought it was a lurid update of Hawthrone's classic Scarlett Letter to some weird evangelical wet dream for fundamentalists. The Women in class were universally disturbed by it as many hated that there was no rebellion/revenge to give the misery the characters endured meaning. It's not surprising that reworking Atwood's novel is ongoing and Hulu's graphic imagery appeals to the darkest parts of a predators and it price has or is being paid by the next Elizabeth Smart who's abducted by some monster it imboldens.

This has been the most disturbing and horrific piece of fiction I have ever seen and it's so compelling and excellently visualised, that I keep having to watch the next episode after the next.
I still feel so guilty and so heavily ashamed at the role some men can play in the act of devastating and destroying our female citizens, by the act of violence of one form or another.
Yet it's to the credit of the show and it's ability to bring believability of such a hideous world to light that it leads one to re-examine the nature of society and how close we are to such a dystopian existence.
At this moment certainly not on physical grounds but on psychological grounds we're closer than we may like to think.
A must watch, but keep in mind there's no letting up so if your emotionally sensitive, be prepared, and keep your shit together.

The shows really needs a stronger male supporting role, Nick is a man with a shield and no sword no pun intended I mean he did get June pregnant but that's not what I'm talking about. Im talking about a series changing character, a character that doesn't exist in the book, a solider that didn't follow the orders and went against the evil Gilead regime. That managed to escape, survive and now go hunting for guardians, eyes, and commanders to give what little hope the handmaids have of freedom, for June and Hannah to reunite. They would give the handmaids a choice to join the fight or be free and safe. Cause that's what the heroes and heroines used to fight for. The safety and love for there country. Not there government.

Dystopian stories can be used to remind people in the western world that we have the privilege of being able to fight the power when signs of trouble show themselves. Yes, the US has had an ongoing civil war when it comes to things like gun control and what current feminism stands for and, yes, the federal government is corrupt, especially now that Trump is in office and he poses a threat to just about everyone, including (realistically) many of his supporters. But I do not believe that The Handmaid's Tale is right around the corner.

That is absolutely not the blue of the Virgin Mary. It's almost teal, certainly not pure blue. Neither is the red of the handmaids the bright scarlet described in the book. I don't know why the filmmakers decided to change the colors, but these muted, depressed tones are not from the book, where the colors were bright enough to see easily at a distance.

Red center = MK Ultra, female. Round up = human trafficking, babies taken away = abortion &/or satanic sacrifice & canabillism (spelled wrong- sorry), look for symbolism- this show projects deep state, elite sick projection of what they are doing in front of our faces! If you cannot see it WAKE UP BEFORE ITS TOO LATE

I love the use of music in the whole show, but the scene where the people with guns start shooting into the crowd of protesters is a nearly perfect blend of visuals & music. Playing Heart of Glass by Blondie in an eerie drawn out way, and cycling through different playback speeds was very powerful to me.

I watched in sadness because my black ass would have been fence meat before all of this was supposed to have taken place. I mourned the loss of my family and it made me glad to go to work on Monday because the shit hasn't hit the fan yet and everyone was accounted for.

I don't recall the women's March being suppressed with machine guns, mostly a lot of whining about electoral college.
They did praise the practice of women having to wear burqas as a symbol of women's liberation. Freedom from not freedom to.

Margaret Atwood says she intends to write a book about the society after the fall of Gilead. I always wondered about the effects that would have on society.
Would gun control be possible in a society that fought a tyranny with firearms?

reply

Forgot the one about how this dumpster fire is a blatant antichristian propaganda piece put out by the progressive left in order to cover up the fact that such societies are actually created by leftist socialists/communists
reply

Very upsetting the writer She made it up in her mind. Is not that contradicting of her. Also decided to share it with the rest of the world. Through a book and tv series. Took a small role in the series.

If ultra coservative politicians had their way this is what they would do to the whole of western culture. Just look at the US Republican party which is a theocratic party in all but name.

Handmaid's tale was written by a liberal feminist and is a perfect adaptation of Bill Clinton, Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein's male liberal Democrat view of women
reply

This is perhaps the vilest Marxist propaganda series. This series, by portraying Christians as criminal fanatics, aims to arouse dislike and even hatred for Christians.

Good thing this isn't real and in America, woman and men are equal and equal rights doesn't mean you should have an advantage over the other gender ladies and gents
reply

Lol they only added black people so they wouldnt get sued. I am sorry but hannah doesnt look anything close like a biracial child. They really messed up on that one.

Mike Pence's America. Did y'all know that when he was Senator he tried to pass a law that put women in jail if they miscarried a child? Sickening, ain't it?

Having read the book and now watching the series- the inside of me sobs in recognition while the outside of me remains stoic. This is incredibly important.
