I-m coming back to this video because the other day, I put up some pixel art of Majora-s Mask on the wall of my dorm room, and that got me thinking about the kind of decorations I have up. The reason I got said pixel art is because a couple were getting rid of it, and we have a mutual friend who was there at the time and remembered that Majora-s Mask is my favorite game of all time and asked if I would want it. Behind me, I have a big ass tapestry on my wall that my sister got me for my birthday one year, it has a raven sitting on a skull because she knows that I like it. I also have an Elvira goblet that someone got for my birthday, partially because I love Elvira, partially as an apology for the time he broke my other goblet at a party because he was so excited about a Marina song playing that they didn-t see me approaching from behind and accidentally knocked it out of my hand (subsequently, a random stranger at the dorm hosting the party glued it back together for me because I accidentally forgot to bring home the pieces, and then they delivered it through someone at the dorm who did know me. I-ve also got a rabbit Littlest Pet Shop on my window sill, because at one point I was expressing lament that I had gotten rid of all my old LPS, so one of my friends who still had theirs gave me one of them.
This inspired me to get out some other stuff people had given me, like a liquid core D20 that was apparently not like the Etsy pictures so I just said that I wouldn-t look at those Etsy pictures and wouldn-t have to feel disappointed. And then I put the rest of my dice in a little bat shaped candle holder my mom got me, since I can-t have candles in my dorm, and that-s next to a skull shaped mug, and the person who gave me that checked to make sure I would like it by texting me -do you like skulls? Of the human variety? - with absolutely no context.
It doesn-t make up everything in my room, there-s a lot of other stuff related to my spooky or nerdy interests, but those things feel extra special because other people actually notice and remember when I express interest in those things, and then they get me things they think I-ll like. And it-s nice to look at those things when I-m having a bit of a depressive episode and start convincing myself that the people who paid enough attention to give me these little trinkets don-t actually care about me, because it-s blatantly not true.

As a kid, I remember using cheats to get unlimited funds in the original 'The Sims' to recreate the modest home I grew up in. I had to use the money cheat so many times I realized how good we had it. Although I definitely fell prey to the escapist fantasy the franchise provided, this was still a pretty powerful moment for a kid that worried way too much about financial insecurity.

It's funny: if you look at his Sim's stats, they always show that the reason he's so miserable is his social stat. And when Brian takes the experiment to real life, the reason it all comes together is that he gets his friends over for communal clown painting.

WoW!
You not only look like every American uncle from 70's ever, you also live like every American uncle from 70's ever.
Tbh, can't comprehend how the heck do you stand that mustache?

I love how Real Brian ignored Simulated Loneliness and tried to use decorations to make things better but ultimately it was the friends that made the decorations that made the apartment better
reply

God damnit that's the second time since the Game of the Year video that you've almost made me cry (obviously before undercutting it with a joke, which is your thing and it's great)

-When you ask for help, most of the time people are willing to help- you paint sad clowns-
I-ve been having a rough time lately and rlly needed to hear that so.
Thanks

You mean you didn-t make yourself and your friends, money cheat a fortune, adopt a dog, and move into a massive penthouse apartment? That worked for me, not in real life though
reply

Try the same test on any other sims. Your Sim has failed numerous times in ts4 due to the simulation lags that exist and will exist until the end of this generation Haha

Hey wait, you're in NY? Dude, I don't live too far! I'd love to be your friend. (I also know a thing or two about jazz and can help you improve your jazz room)

When he said -That-s me, I-m reality Brian- I immediately asked myself why and what evidence he had to support it - don-t mind me, I-m a philosophy minor

This genuinely taught me so much about how to manage my own depression. Asking for help is so hard but people who love you will want to be there for you
reply

and now you can look down that hallway and think -Those clowns are sadder than me! - and it will be completely true, and not a lie this time
reply

If this had been in my recommended when it was uploaded, it would have absolutely sent me into an emotional spiral of bittersweet depression damn

-And everyone knows books are BORING. -
This feels like a cry for help from someone who had to do multiple Unraveled book reports.

When I played the Sims 4 my sim was perfectly content working out and ready books, I'm not sure why but he was happy with life. Strange
reply

-He was more willing to spend two nights soaked in piss before spending a single minute inside his apartment. - that is too relatable

I love the idea of a paint party. Get friends over and just let them paint a bnch of things to decorate your house its geniu
reply

Not only would i have happily agreed to paint a shitty sad clown with you, I would have been offended you didn't ask.
reply

get you a friend who will help you paint sad clowns
get you a man who will give you an outlet to paint sad clowns

reply

You forgot to put zuko in your sims apartment, bet he would have helped you live longer by happiness of food

Rose working for polygon and his video has 3. 4 million views and he's pretending like he's a d-lister?
reply

I like the implication that Brian was on the brink of dying of starvation and was saved by this redecoration

I just had a 2023 moment looking at the most replayed moment and it's the pictures of dude's living space: (

He repeated the same thing twice. Skeleton and college student are synonyms. We all make mistakes. It is ok.
