Kayakers Save The Sweetest Baby Deer As kayakers law is they should ha e tope on board for emergencies. They should and could have roped him so as not to loose him under as the rescue took to long, must be exhausted, scared plus not a water swimming creature. Im glad the deer lived. but hope they and others learned faster action is needed, if it had gone under from taking in too much water they could have and were probably closer to loosing it than they realize. Im a kayaker, you know your boat. could have even pulled it up much sooner . Glad it all worked out well. Angels were helping that deer from above too

Awesome Thank You For Helping & Savinge the Baby Deer
I Wonder How it Got Out There Probally most likely walking along the Edge of the Water & a Wave or Under Current/Under Toad/Tode Swept it away out into the water it Seemed to be a little good Swimer though just Couldn't get to Dry Land on its own
Again Thank- You For saving the Baby Deer & Sharing this Amazing Rescue With us All

I’m glad they saved it. If they waited to see if Mom came around that’s one thing but the poor thing is swimming across the body of water. You don’t know where the mom is. When you rescue baby, wild animals you need to call animal control for directions or a wildlife rescue group. A baby deer away from its mom is open prey for predatory animals unfortunately!

Why did this video start with a very dappled young fawn in an icy body of water to a much less dappled fawn in a lake in summertime
Anyway, it worried me that they let goits mother was nowhere in sight
It might’ve been wiser to contact an animal rehab so as the fawn could grow a little more and then released once it’s capable of fending for itself.

reply

These people seem kind hearted and I appreciate that they eventually got the fawn out of the water but this video left me with a few questions. 1. How did that fawn get in the water to begin with 2. Why did they take so long to rescue him her. 3. And did they just let the fawn go off by him or herself Did they call a wildlife rehabilitation center
reply

It was nice of them to help, but they really didn't have a clue that it has now next to nothing chance of survival without it's mother.
So it would probably have died either way. They should have taken it to animal rescue so that it could be checked out/rest/get the right nutrition/rehab/maybe be with it's own kind.

reply

They left a baby onshore miles from its mom (if she was still alive, with no protection open to predators. Shouldve held it, made a simple call, and waited for wildlife officials to collect it. As shown, this was no rescue. It was tantamount to a cruel, thoughtless. dumping leaving the fawn little chance of survival.
reply

Im happy that they did rescue the baby, however, I personally think it took ENTIRELY WAY TOO LONG! They should have BEEN just plucked it out of the water! The poor thing obviously had to be SO EXHAUSTED from all that swimming! They acted like they were scared of a tiny baby deer! Just scoop it up ffs!
reply

Please stop and think before you type a gut response. You weren’t there and don’t have context. As others have stated here, the filmer could’ve had a GoPro and it was already rolling. At the end of the day, it was a net positive and I’m glad we got to see the fawn rescued.

That's great that they saved the fawn. BUT you just let him go He's not going to live long without his mom! he should have been taken to either a sanctuary or the DNR. so they can see He's cared for until it's safe for him to be released!
reply

Deer are amazingly good swimmers and it not at all unusual for deer to swim across miles of open water. My only concern would be if the mother was missing. I have seen them swimming between islands in South East Alaska that were miles apart.
reply

I was beginning to think they would do nothing. The lady in the front of the kayak seemed contented to do nothing. Wouldn't want to freak it out Really Would you prefer it drowned. There is no such think as not making a decision.
reply

And then released the baby to fend for his own without his mom is unfortunately also a dead sentence. They should have brought it to a vet/ organization that temporarily take in wildlife that needs help until they can be released.

Effective RESCUE PLAN -
Two kayaks parallel and hold an Oar between you then go to deer and put under front arm pits.
Paddle to shore.
Still Nice work even if the deer had to work so hard not being real efficient swimmers -

reply

I was screaming at the ridiculous girl saying I dont wanna freak it out
it was already freaked out. it was right there. All she had to do is grab it. but she was not wanting to help I guess

reply

I am assuming they waited sooo long to just save the poor fawn because they feared for their life. I understand that but making it a photo shoot is disgusting and that's what it looks like to me.
reply

Next time, PUT THE PHONE down and DO BETTER! That poor baby suffered for MUCH LONGER than it needed to with ALL OF YOU THERE! Be ashamed, disattatch yourself from that damn PHONE
reply

That poor thing was so tired. I would have gotten out and brought it over to ground level or in the trees. It's nice they saved him but took to long. I thought it was going to go under.
reply

While I am glad they saved it, they pretty much starved it to death. Who knows how far away it was from where its mother lost it. They should've called wildlife services imho
reply

Ok, thanks for saving the precious little thing. Now what What was the outcome Did it collapse from exhaustion Did anyone call wildlife Did it run into the woods What happened
reply

It's mother may be on the other side of the lake. Rehabber or Game Warden may have been a better choice. We will never know. Hopefully it all worked out for the best.
reply

Disagree with all of this. Should have left the deer alone. It would have found it's way. Now it sees people as help and they lose their instinct to survive.
reply

Guy gets all the way out there, and then decides he's not going to act. Sits there for another 5 minutes then gets her out of the water. You ok buddy
reply

The poor deer is still in danger and won't survive on its own. animal rescue should have been called. its common sense lol. poor deer
reply

The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated - Mahatma Gandhi. people like these kind souls gives me hope.
reply

I have never seen such incompident people, especially the women. I am afraid he is going to freak out, better to let it drown Dumb!
reply

The baby needs his mother thank God he is back to the safety of the land, but where will they find his mother to take care of him
reply

So what happened to the deer Did he get food Water Find his mother. These videos that don’t finish the story are maddening.
reply

Deer are good swimmers stop interfearing with its daily life. You keep getting in its way and mak8ng it struggle. just clueless
reply

I hope they called animal control after it's very unlikely that the mother is going to find that foal after it got that lost.
reply

And now it can grow up to annihilate someone’s car.
But morbid humor aside, I am pleased it did not drown.

reply

That poor thing was so tired. I am glad they were able to help. I am Thankfully to those who are compassionate.
reply

Holy cow. How long were you going to paddle next to that poor deer before you reached in and grabbed it
reply

Wish they rescued him faster and took the baby deer to the wide life rescue center to help this little one!
reply

I was getting a bit frustrated as for how long you would take to pick him up.
Thankyou so much.
