I met a strey cat severel years ago at my address. In all it took about 6 months carful building her trust.
At first I couldn't get any closer than the distance I could throw a little piece of ham.
A lot of pieces of ham later, she would came next to me.
But. After around those six months I've gained her trust.
She loved me totally, absolutely.
Not even a woman had ever looked at me this way.
She went missing some day. Or, (she didn't sit outside ready to be let in)
We all went looking for her budy, but found anything.
Search so much for her with pictures, and detail descriptions.
Nothing!
But! I miss her so!
Believe me I'm still crying!

Reminds me of a cat we used to have. We adopted him from the vets where someone had taken him after finding him as a stray.
He was totally terrified of everyone when we got him, and would yell and struggle if you tried to touch him.
After about a 6 week period of just being incredibly patient, he just suddenly flipped into the biggest cuddly purr-monster I've known. Suddenly he was letting me pick him up and carry him round like a baby, rarely left our sides, and just suddenly seemed to trust us completely.
I guess a life on the streets had created this scared, angry individual but behind it all was this beautiful soul who just wanted to be loved.

our cat is exactly the same. we're pretty sure she was abused by her previous owners before we adopted her. she would agressively scratch you if you so much as passed by her within a 1meter distance. 16 years later she comes into my room all the time, always smothers next to someone in our house and rubs her face against us whenever she can. she sometimes sit on my face to sleep at night so i have to use my hand to be able to breathe lol (that last part sounds way too weird)

I just wonder. .. she has an unusual look to her face and eyes, just the way it's configured. Especially the eyes, a little angry and spookable. Cats are so sensitive to human body and facial communication -- could she have been treated unkindly because people reacted to the way she looks

I got a cat from the shelter. She was non aggressive and we had an immediate connection but it took her 2 years to stop running in fear from my husband. My husband would get upset. I told him, it takes time. Didn't realize it would take that much time! Now she sits in his lap and rubs him.

You voiced very true words about cats in general but more so in dealing with aggressive cats and/or dogs. If all pet people, everyone had your intelligence, insight and a true loving heart, there would be no animal cruelty or abandonment of animals. God keep you both!

I've raised my cat from kitty and he hates all of us, you're lucky to have such an emotional cat. That connexion I never felt, since mine's always scratching and can't be held more than 5 seconds.
Only brought him love, space, a warm home and a garden to play in though

Not an adoptable cat eh Guess you showed them. Every cat is adoptable to the right person, you just need to be patient with them, as they are the ones being abandoned, moved around and forced to adapt to new homes and environments.

I have one of these in cats, same face, in my downstairs with her three babies, who were also deemed unadoptable. Love them all now. Left the mom in last Chistmas, and have only recently been able to pet her.

And sometimes you have to push yourself on animals to get them to connect with you I rescued 5 feral kittens that were older in age and now all of them let me love on them and it took over 6 months
