Couple Finds Tiny Sparrow After A Storm Little But Fierce Pattern bonding in the avian world is powerful and imprinting lasts a lifetime. I lived with a cherry head conure for 34 years. He wasn’t hand tame when I found him in a feed store taking baths in the fish tanks! He taught me a lot over more than half my life what the proper behavior and bird etiquette etc. Flapper died a year ago on Memorial Day. I’ll miss him for the rest of my life. Once you’ve given your heart to a bird, there’s no turning back.

I love your story!
A friend gave me a tiny bird today- blown out of a tree in a windy rainstorm, it appears to be inly a day or two old. I am researching, trying to find out how to feed this precious baby. Can you tell me how you cared for Iris when she first came to your nest, please Did you not feed her for the 8pm to 8 am time
Thank you so much for your delightful story. Thank you for your tome and response.

I too found a baby mockingbird that fell from its nest. i made him a nest in a small basket, fed it multiple times a day until the mother discovered him and started to feed it. I nurtured it as i watched it grow feathers and a few days later it was gone from the nest which had obviously been disturbed. I dont want to think about which predator saw it and scooped it up. I was devastated for days.

Hi. I have found a few baby birds likewise. But i have not been able to feed them properly and they have failed to survive. It hurts everytime. I surfed through the internet many times but couldn't find anything that really worked for them.
What did you feed her
Please reply, it'll be really helpful.

This couple gave this bird a chance in life. Pleased they decided to care for her forever. Releasing a tame bird in the bird can have devastating consequences for the survival of the bird. This couple just highlight that Americans have a degree of humanity left despite what we see on the media.

I love how they have a cage for her nest, but overall, she has free range over the house. A good place for her to set up at night, but she can fly and explore as much as she wants. Very lovely and caring people.

My mother used to find little baby sparrows in our yard and raise them and release them. We did have a couple that would circle my head and play with my braids. Those two were my little buddies.

I'm so happy they kept her when she wouldn't really go out on her own. What a blessing for Iris and her Mom and Dad! Be still my heart! I wish them the best and most wonderful years together!

Why force the issue! Feed & nurture her, help her learn to fly, if she doesn't want to leave why force the issue!
Unless you simply don't want to continue to nurture your relationship with her

I had a similar experience when I was little. The sparrow would land on my shoulder and give me a kiss! I would put him on the window sill but never fly away! You really get attached to them!

Hand raised birds will not likely survive in the wild as their natural fears are not developed.
If you have a bird this tame, count on keeping it for the rest of it's life.

I had the sweetest house sparrow. She loved to be cuddled, would fall asleep on my arm, and share my food. She passed away over a year ago at the age of eleven. I miss her so much!

I came upon this again-one of my favorite all time videos! Beautiful beautiful story and you guys are so funny and cute. Thank you for taking care of Iris!

Birds raised like that unfortunately cannot be released back into the wild as 1) they've imprinted on you and 2) wouldn't be able to fend for themselves.
reply

How do you handle it from not getting hit by a fan I recused one bird, then my friend turned on the fan, and it flew right into it poor veggie died in 1day
reply

I really like that you guys let Iris choose where she wanted to live, and she chose with you. That's so special and fills my heart with joy.
reply

When a Bird is rescued like this, the Bird will you as her parent, the images of you is imprinted in the Bird's memory, Well done.

In the end, Iris’ perhaps felt that your affection and love you’ve given to her are more than enough to let go of the wild life.
reply

Amazing you were able to keep her alive from being a new born chick. Probably end up being the best friend you've ever had.
reply

Do Iris want to stay with you also because she can't find food by her own or have you tried to find other sparrows she will join
reply

sparrow loves to take a sand bath and therefore she/he bathes in biscuits. make a small sandbox with fine sand: -)
