Baby Chipmunk Burrows Into Giant 115-Pound Dog's Fur Yes, mothers in the wild will usually abandon their children who have something wrong with them. When I was younger, I adopted 3 kittens that were only days old because their mother abandoned them. I raised them for about two weeks, feeding them, cleaning them, and taking care of them. However, there were people who had severe cat allergies in my house, I had a full-time job, and ultimately, I had to give them to the humane center. All through the time I was taking care of them one of the kittens stayed separate from the other two. I thought there was something wrong with that one, it was also smaller than the other two. It turned out that the two that stayed together had worms and ended up dying. The only one who lived was the little one that stayed away from the other two. Mothers in the wild (this was a somewhat wild cat) will abandon their children if they have things wrong with them, especially things like worms. Its sad the other two died, but Im glad the one lived. They were the cutest little things.
This was a sad story, but at least you gave this chipmunk a home so that it died warm and loved instead of terrified and alone.

Poor little guy, I'm glad he had love in his time on earth. At my work, we had chipmunks in the shop until a fisher cat got them, but there were little ones that survived like juveniles or something when fisher cat left 2 of them came out of the wall right up to us at lunch so we feed them 6 months later I order food for them on amazon and feed them daily I don't think they knew how to look for food they never had fear of us or the loud noises in the shop one will come right into my hand and eat but other has never I love them now there truly magnificent creatures working on how to keep them safe from the fisher cat next spring

Yrah thats the hard part about trying to rescue an animal that's been kicked out of the nest. I tried to help a dove once and he was doin great a few days and eating great and he was good about sleeping for 6hrs before waking up for food and we ate one night and the next day we got up to feed and it was like it couldn't swallow and then it just died. I thought for a while maybe I starved it but I've learned that's just the reality of finding babies kicked out of the nest. Usually yeah they were kicked out for a reason unfortunately

what a beautiful story about Kip and Charlie. In the past, I have owned ferrets while also owning dogs. It is amazing how curious, compassionate and playful the dogs were with the ferrets. They would play together and sleep together. Our pets are way more intelligent than they are given credit for.

The chipmunk died because ur dog used to lick her all the time due to which the germs from ur dog's saliva just got transferred into the chipmunk and finally the chipmunk died. So guys, why don't you bring up this fact in the video, why do you hide this!

Holy cowzers I didn't expect this. Kip passing and Charlie being as sad as he was. Total tear jerker!
I'm glad Charlie was there to give Kip the love he deserved, especially through his last days. Much love to Charlie and his great compassion!

Oh God, what a touching story. I'm really glad he found a friend in the stuffed Charlie toy. It's pretty heartbreaking to watch his sadness, but by the looks of it, he'll do just fine, I'm sure.

You were awesome to Kip. I had a pet squirrel when I was young. I named her Jaws. I had tears in my eyes as I watched your story. Thank you for being such an amazing person.
reply

awe. i didn't expect to tear up when hearing that kip passed away. Thank goodness that your family poured so much love into chip. Charlie was his comfort angel. Rip.
reply

So sad. You gave him a short life that one could argue was more loving and supportive than a full lifetime in the wild. Thank you!

Kip is so very cute and just precious with Charlie. So very sorry for your loss, but you saved him even if for a short time.

Sad but nature is not good or bad, just ruthlessly indifferent. Caring for others -even for other species is what has got us this far.

Absolutely kills me to see this happen. The biggest reason I just can’t have pets anymore. maybe one day It’ll be different

RIP Kip. Thank you Charlie and thanks to your friends, too! Thank you to The Dodo for sharing.

Hope that wasn't cow's milk you were feeding the little guy because cow's milk's is poison to chipmunks.
reply

You should heve shown Charlie the death Kip. He would have understood and not be looking for him.

Like I've always believed. Different species can become friends or even closer. Great job Lady.
