Feral Dog Has Never Wagged His Tail Before Faith = Restored My formerly feral golden mutt grew up as part of a large pack of dogs with purebred appearing golden retriever father and pack leader, and mixed breed mothers. When the pack of 30 dogs was trapped by animal control, they estimated my dogs age as 4 to 6 years. He was in the shelter 2 years because he was terrified of humans, refused to swim, did not play with toys / dogs / humans, and did not bark. His response to fear was RUN and hide. His first response to me was to roll on his back and pee on himself, submission. He was not housebroken, so I had to remove all carpets and many furnishings. I walked him on a harness, and told people he used to be feral and does not like to be touched by humans. When I tried to take pictures of him, he looked away and covered his face when possible. He would not eat unless I put the food and water in bowls by his bed, turned off the light, left the room and closed the door. After 4 months he stopped trying to bolt out the door. A few months later I came home from work and he was sleeping on my bed. He stopped flinching and stiffening when I touched him. He now eats out of my hand. His tail wags in down position only. Five years after adoption, he has started to bark like a normal dog. He runs towards a bowl of food and away from a source of fear; otherwise, he walks SLOWLY. He still does not play, and ignores dogs and toys. Some basic rules are: eternal patience and unconditional love, let the dog set the pace of change, and let your dog be different when different is safe. Formerly feral dogs are not a good match for many humans. Get lots of information before you adopt, spend time with the dog before you adopt. I am lucky to have adopted my wonderful dog.

Anybody who abuses animals so badly should receive the same treatment.
My catahoula mix was abused physically and mentally that it made me break down and cry. Of the things she went through. She was terrified of everything, especially men. She also had a thing about white pickup trucks and would bark if she saw one. Which makes me think, her Original owner owned one. I decided to take her to a doggy daycare which helped her social skills tremendously. She is no longer scared of men, only weary of strangers (but I guess that’s the catahoula gene in her. She is my first rescue. I got her in 2017. She was 3 years old. She is around 9 now. And is my baby. I’m so happy I am able to give her the best life.
Guys adopt a pet. They are sooo thrilled to be loved. It’s soo rewarding.

I had a hound i adopted at 1, he was happy boy but he never wagged his tail for about 3 years. Suddenly he just started wagging it but not a sitting thumper type though. He was just a different dog, many quirks but he loved to ride, eat my food, walk and explore. Hayes passed last year at almost 14 from heart failure but he was all heart, i miss him and still think about how great he was. And yes in his honor i adopted an 8 yr old oddball hound who never gives kisses but he's a tail thumping, waving, ball of energy outside.

What you do to these poor souls is extraordinary.
BUT. I can't help myself to worry about their reaction when the go to another family.
I mean it was YOU they put their faith in, aren't you afraid they feel betrayed YET AGAIN by someone and, therefore, have trust issues

My Dad adopted a Lab that had a choke collar grown into his neck he was too weak for anesthesia so the vet just cut the collar and pulled it out. the dog never flinched. This was in the 1960s Buster lived to be a happy Old man with us and is fondly remembered by the whole family
reply

Dog is happy when realizes it's being adopted. No dogs have no f clue what's gapping they are being let out of a cage that's the only reason they are happy.
Dog never wagged its tail before haha. What a crock of bs.

Please don't hurt animals.
It's OK if you don't love them, but don't hurt them.
They have families and feelings. Like us, they are scared of harm and deaxxxxth.
Please. Don't hurt animals.

Something was tied around his waist for the whole video, why wasn't it removed ASAP Watch that video again, that strap was around that dogs waist the whole time. Cringe stuff there.
reply

God, eh Just one day all the accumulated kindness cracked him. This is a lesson for me. You just put in the action and put in the action rather than trying for a result
reply

It just takes time, and a little respect from us humans, he looks like a good pooch, love my animals and appreciate others that love them, keep up the good work
reply

Don't touch him on top of his head. It's a sign of dominance and he doesn't need that right now.
Better scratch his jaws or his chin.
Nice work.

Wondering what happened to Homer! Did someone adopt him and did that go well He seems at risk of not adapting well to another human after Rocky and Kelly.
reply

How did material move through his intestines to keep him alive
ie, how did he even eat without getting an intestinal blockage from that cord

reply

So after all that time building his trust your just going to abandon him like his first owners did by giving him to someone els! Pore dog.

Please stop being sensationalist. NEVER WAGED ITS TAIL bull. The reality of dog abuse and neglect is bad enough
reply

I could never foster dogs. My house would end up like the Asher house and I don't have that kind of space

It takes a real man or good woman to dedicate this kind of time and effort into someone else.

I don’t know if the video is more about the guy being cutesy or the dog recovering from abuse.
reply

Has someone been watching this dog its entire life to say it's NEVER waged its tail
reply

I feel it is statistically improbable that this dog has never wagged its tail. just sayin'
reply

What is that tight band around his pelvis and why does he still have it weeks later
reply

Dogs are much more forgiving than people. Thanks for helping this little guy.
