This is the most heartwarming, sweet, and genuinely lovely story that I have seen in a while. Thank you for sharing it with us. You can tell that the dog is just bursting with affection for this bird but knows he must be very cautious and gentle in his displays of affection towards the much more fragile creature. Just remarkable in every way.

Letting the bird go after it has been acclimated to just walking up to a dog seems incredibly negligent and irresponsible. I hate these videos. It's always like Yeah, we taught this animal not to fear humans/domesticated animals/whatever, got it used to domestic life, and then just threw it out the door.

Maybe this is silly, but I sometimes believe most animals see beyond the veil we name reality into the timeless creation of the timely world. They seem to sense what is fated to be. Many humans do the same, but we often chose to ignore knowledge that can’t be explained rationally

I hope they keep Cracker inside or on a harness when outside from now on. He probably didn’t even mean to fly off. Birds can catch a wind and it looked like he did it in the heat of the moment with other (wild) birds around. Poor Cracker. Glad he’s back! Keep him safe!

I know this is cute and adorable but stories like this make me think of the times that people try this, and the dog just demolishes the bird, just full on eats the little guy, and they just never speak of it again.

It looks like he flew off because something spooked him. If you watch again you see Craker look as if he is resting and then all the other birds come flying from outa frame before he took off.

NEVER let that bird outside again. Its relationship with you and your dog is way more special than a free existence where it doesn't have you AND has to fend for itself.
