parkeets. dont feed them mango pineapple or south american fruits. ONLY orange grapes apple pear. lettuce and they need calcium blocks or sepia for their stomag and to sharpen the beak.
better u buy a book or ask direct advice and make a list by ur pet doktor. .u need to ask how to see if ur bird is ill. for is he is, u have no time left. birds dont show untill they r really sick. and dont forget they have high iq and r like 5 yrs old children. they need attention

Aw! What a cute little girl! Judging by her eyes, she seems pretty young! I've had a lot of parakeets in my life. Unfortunately, she might have been a victim of a buy and release situation. People think that these birds can and should be in the wild, but that is a terrible notion! They're domesticated, and need to be under proper care. It's like if you went to a pet store, bought a puppy, then just dumped it in the woods because they belong in the wild. Disgusting.

That is so sweet! I had parakeets growing up and they were the best! Several years ago, my next door neighbor and I spotted a parakeet really high up in a oak tree while we were outside chatting. We tried, but couldn't get it. We were so worried about the blue jays getting it. I'm so glad Tink was able to be saved from life in the wild where she would not have survived long. And this young lady really went above and beyond for her!

yanks cannot fathom buying a second hand enclosure for pets like birds. the hyper consumerism is so insane - buying brand new accessories for a new pet just creates so much more waste. she ends up adopting the bird and buys a bigger cage. so bleak to think the old cage was thrown out and it's not something that can easily be disposed. hope it was sold to someone not thrown out

Awesome job on catching and taking care of the little gal. Try to start feeding her pellets and vegetables versus seed. Seed is OK every now & then but should not be the staple. And since she has bar feathers on top of her head, she is quite young. Probably less than six months old. Hopefully you have an avian veterinarian near by to get a check up. Good luck.

I think the rescue is wonderful, the girl is beautiful, and the parakeet is adorable, but I still think she could have splurged a few bucks on some toys even if it was just for an hour. LOL she could have just sent them along with him. Sorry to be negative, but I think mostly it's a positive story, but that part kind of had me shaking my head.

I have had birds and have a rescue Senegal right now. Please do Tink's and yourself a favor and study everything you can about your little friend. There's a lot to learn to keep them healthy and happy. Keep her seed in the fridge so it doesn't get little bugs and webs in it and make sure you always check the Expiration or Best buy date.

Wow Keana! What an awesome video! Thank you so much for not giving up when you tried to catch Tink! I think she was destined to be with you. You have a heart of gold and I think Tink knew that. I love that she will step up on your finger. What an awesome home you have made for her. I hope you both have many happy years ahead together!

I birdsat my friend's mom's cockatiel for 2 months because she had a friend with a cat visiting. I adored that little bird, named Loki (and he was a rascal. Liked to land on my head when I entered the room! I'd love to have one of my own someday. So glad your Tinker Bell found such a kind soul, and that IS a palace-mansion!

Found an African Grey in my backyard once. Flew down from a limb and landed on my head, scaring the crap out of me. I wanted to keep him, but I figured that he escaped from the petstore a mile from my house. Unfortunately, I was right, and I am no thief. The owner was very grateful, so at least there was that.

Certain things don''t happen by chance, i would say that as an introduction that you were in the right place at the right time and that guy survived. Because he probably would have been in great danger of losing his life and being eaten by someone, you were an angel sent by the Creator to save this bird.

Easy way to tell the genders on adult parakeets. Look at the bird's nostrils above their beak. Males have a blue coloration, females have brown. Males tend to be more talkative, Females tend to be more docile and quiet, but this isn't a strict rule. Your parakeet may vary. Congrats on your new friend for life!

I had a pair I rescued as a kid learn to whistle with Tink and you'll both sing together. I also had a large branch in my bedroom for them to sit on and they LOVE bird baths. Also when you're ready she needs a friend they're very social. Tink couldn't have been rescued by a better person.

Who knows what you will find out and about! This lovely woman found this teeny tiny parakeet named aptly: TINK! Beautiful name for a very colorful birdy! These 2 became completely inseparable! I'm glad she got to keep her! She is ADORABLE!

I had a parakeet and I would put a shallow dish of water on my counter for him. He loved to bath. It removes any dust or oils. A friend told me it's good for their health. I wish you and Tink lots of fun and happy days.

Give them stuff like corn on the cob (washed but uncooked, romance lettace(it has good nutrients, cooked brown rice (my budgies favorate)
Feed her a mix of pellets, seed, greens and some berries or boiled eggs

Word of caution if you have one of these birds. If they are out of their cage, make sure all ceiling fans are turned off. It will kill them if they come in contact with the blades.
reply

In the UK we call them budgerigars or budgies. 50 years ago you couldn't visit an older person's home without meeting one or two. They were good company for lonely old folk.
reply

good job on saving this budgie. Just a piece of advice, budgies love to be with other budgies, they really should have a companion budgie if they are being kept as a pet.
