Some of this is the show disagreeing with official royal history but portraying rumors that may have actually happened. For example, we don't know that they arranged for Charles to go away with a naval assignment so that he would fall out of love with Camilla, but the assignment is real, happened around that time, and that is the kind of thing they would do.

Charles met Camilla in 1971. The now infamous photo of them in front of a tree at the polo was taken in 1975 and Lord Mountbatten was killed in 1979 so Im pretty sure Charles would of mentioned her to his great uncle in their personal letters.
