Ursula belonged to a separate group of Mer-people that had squid tentacles instead of fish tails. She is the daughter of Poseidon and rules over the squid people. Her Freudian love or lustful desire for her brother Triton turned to jealousy when she attended Tritons wedding and discovered that Ariels mother was even more beautiful than she. Ursula grew angry and tried to start a war against her brother, defying Poseidon in the process and being condemned to live without a voice to sing with. Ursula than began studying and practicing dark magic under her uncle Hades making a deal with him to send all sacrifices to him in exchange for power. She than brought her sisters together and planned a coup to take over the Golden City and overthrow Triton. When Poseidon learned of what was going on he wiped out the Seven Sea Witches with the exception of Morgana and Ursula. The last two sisters went their separate ways and Ursula began to brood over her hatred for Triton and Poseidon.

If all this is true, how did Morgana mysteriously disappear and end up in an ice cave? I wonder what she did lol because in the second movie triton was surprised to see Morgana like what the hell youre still alive? I mean he was shocked to see her and hes like man hand over that baby or so so help me? Obviously triton cared for Morgana and knew she was crazy lol I think a part of him felt bad for his crazy sister makes sense to me! seems Morgana didnt really want to rule the ocean or over rule triton she just wanted to outshine Ursula haha and why did Morgana get nothing if Ursula and triton got objects of their own? Was Morgana hated by her dad too? The theory about Ursula banishing Morgana is interesting too. Poor Morgana.

I think it has something to do with areils mother in once apon a time ursla is a daughter of poisden while I think her and Morgana are sisters and triton is their half brother anyway so ursla has a talent for singing like areiel and posiden wanted to use her ability to sink sailer shipps
Because of what happened to his wife but she let's captin hooks crew live which makes her father angery but ursla didn't want to use her talent to hurt others and possibly wanted to not be completely evil as she makes deals with others even thogh there's a price she still gives the people she makes deals with a fair chance so in other words she's evil but she gives people a fair chance

I hope everyone knows that Ursula is Hans Christian Andersens Sea Witch. I see many people have hard to understand this. Especially Americans who think everything Disney does is theirs. But what is Disneys things? 1. The name should be obvious. 2. The design. 3. The songs. 4. Some added story. Why did they give Ursula a story? Because Ron Clements and John Musker wanted the characters to get more. The Sea King didnt have much in the Fairy tale and either did the sea witch. So it is why and nothing more. So it is time you people out there understand this and that everything Disney does will always belong to the original author and country.

Second, ursala and her younger sister and mom have zero looks in common. Feels more like their mom seduced Tritons dad, maybe even killed him somehow. (Yeah, feels like a tale of snow white) they cant even touch the trident without help from a member of the royal family so. Yeah.

I am actually the older sibling but. I have a big sis that has a different mom and she is ummm. I think she is 23 years old but she also has a baby! Yep I said did u heard me yes a child! I actually really like Ursula just wanting to rule the ocean cause she wants to. I wasnt left scratching my head. The backstory is interesting, but I dont think it feels like anything is missing from the film. Similar to Maleficent in the original Sleeping Beauty, I enjoy how this villains motive is just being evil because they like it.

The only way I can imagine the female villain character (URSULA) could possibly be related to (King Triton) is if she was either adopted, and I can imagine her as King Tritons stepsister that being same father completely different mother.
