Actors Who Had To Change Their Voice For A Role

When we think of Hollywood actors who transform into their film roles, we usually imagine someone who lost a ton of weight like Anne Hathaway in Les Miserables, or someone who gained pounds and pounds of muscle, like Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, or Chris Evans for their Marvel characters really, all of the Chrises. Or we hear incredible tales of actors who gave up everything and completely changed their lives to get into character, like Daniel Day Lewis or Shia LeBoeuf. But what we rarely think about is how much the best actors are able to transform their voices, in order to get lost in a part. But really, when you are famous and have a very recognizable voice, one of the best ways to become a character is to not sound just like yourself. Some of these amazing transformations that come to mind are the subtle yet very important ways that Elizabeth Olsen changes her voice to play Wanda Maximoff. Or how Margot Robbies Australian accent completely disappears into Harley Quinn. Natalie Portman not only changed the sound of her voice, but its entire rhythm and cadence to play Jackie O, just like Michelle Willams did to take on Marilyn Monroe. Christian Bale and Robert Pattinson made bold choices when it came to Batman, and so did Heath Ledger and Jared Leto to play his nemesis, The Joker. We cant forget Tom Hardy as Bane, Andy Serkis as Gollum, and how Lupita Nyong completely transformed her voice for her incredible performance in Us

Bon Morley from The 100 has such a different voice in real life than in the show like he has a really cute Australian accent irl but in the show he has this deep American voice and its a crazy difference

Let's just be honest Elizabeth Wilson has had to play rules with a lot of different accents like she had a Texas accent in I saw the light and in the MCU she has a sarkovian accent

my respects to andy serkis because if i were to force my voice like that for 4 movies (lotr and the hobbit, i'd probably end up sounding like i just swallowed a bunch of pins

You forgot to add Freddie Highmore to the list
(when in 2008 at only sixteen years old he changed his voice to play Jared and Simon Grace in The Spiderwick Chronicles)

Gal Gadot, had acting classes and is still one of the worse actors, you got to be especially bad at acting, when big budgets can't hide your terrible acting.

About Batmans actor. Welsh accent is one of British accents, isnt it?
Wales is part of the UK. Robert is from London. So Welsh and English accent?

reply

I really hope Robert Knepper is on this list. coz he made SUCH AN EFFORT on prison break. When i first heard him speak normally I was shocked

They say you would not know Pattinsons British voice from his roles- HE LITERALLY PLAYED A BRITISH CHARACTER IN HARRY POTTER
reply

I think with normal voice, Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinton sound alike. Although one is British and the other is Australian.

All I thought of was Karan brar and Jessie. I remember being shocked that he didnt really have an Indian accent
