Disney Pixar brings all the magic and nostalgic vibes we could hope for with Turning Red! Over the course of just four years, the team built a brand new story to life which while it does include some more magical elements was actually majorly based on director Domee Shis life! Before animating even began, a small group from the creative team took a field trip to the zoo to get up close and personal with some reallife Red Pandas. The proportions of Panda Mei in the movie are quite far from the actual animals but equally as cute! For Turning Red, many newer technologies were used including one that had never actually been proven to work. One of the technologies brought more inclusivity than weve ever seen before in a Disney Pixar movie, really reflecting the world around us! It would be a Disney Pixar flick without some new catchy tunes and these come in the form of a 90s boy band! Billie Eilish and Finneas OConnell were the musical minds behind the tunes with Finneas even voicing one of the band members! Youll never believe the creative way that the producers approached the musicians about the gig. Filming during a pandemic meant a lot of creative solutions were key but it also meant actors would work from anywhere which helped bring one special performer into the movie for a nottobemissed cameo. Recording studios were filled up with tiny huts with windows builtin for the performers to sing together, but apart. No matter the challenges they faced, the Turning Red team made sure they gave it their all, bringing this special movie to life

In my personal opinion. The purpose and conflict was superficial and degrading to ones cultureas an Immigrant. In order for the main familys tradition to be sustained in America, it needed to kiss-ass to societys Image-Obsessed way of making everything acceptable and sellable. And then implies that traditions are more of something that held the protagonist behind for simply hanging out with her friends and going to a concert. I understand the suppressing ones true emotions part for sure because tradition can sometimes be so rigid. And in order to go to concert she had to parade her ancestors culture and traditions built over hundreds of years to make easy cash to go toA CONCERT? And make that as the main conflict in the movie against an old tradition that actually had a deep purpose of saving lives? I have never been so drained of my soul from a Disney movie that proposes itself to address generational trauma. Are we just bringing back the 90s day again when the only cool thing to do is to be a wild animal to celebrities?
I think Encanto delivered a much more comprehensive, colorful and meaningful summary of what Generational Trauma is.

I know some people don't like this movie, but I was pleasantly surprised by it.
My initial reason for not being excited was that I thought Luca was OVERRATED. Very few moments struck a chord with me and most it felt kinda schlocky. That might just be me.
Turning Red ended up looking interesting, and while there is some teen cheese I'm not big on, it feels natural and fun, and had some strong moments.
I grew up with old school Pixar, and The Incredibles still tops my list, but Turning Red has my respect.
What have some of the complaints been? I don't think I understand the situation.

This movie is great. It's kinda funny though how it plays into a stand up comedy stereotype. Guys would say women aren't funny, all they do is talk about periods. Now they have made a whole movie about them
