Disney Animation Then Vs. Now

November 1995 marks the first CGI film from Disney, or should we say Pixars Toy Story. Back in the day, the animation studios struggled with any sort of detail in their animations. They completely avoided animating humans at all costs and when they did, they, lets face it, looked pretty terrible. As the animators of Toy Story admitted when they moved on to the second movie, they wanted to better differentiate the texture of the toys from the humans. They were successful and suddenly zits were possible! Is that a step forward? The portrait lens on our phone would say otherwise. Getting to movies like Encanto and Turning Red was a process that took years to perfect. Each movie seemed to advance at least one element. Tangled, Brave, Frozen and Moana paved the way for Encanto to be the first animated movie in history to feature every hair type. Cars developed lighting and reflection. Monsters Inc. focused on the importance of fur. Music movies, Soul and Coco needed an upgrade to hand functionality for playing instruments. Broadshouldered characters werent introduced until superstrength Mr. Incredible came along. Luca finally tackled what handdrawn animated movies like The Little Mermaid and Cinderella couldnt: transformation. Ratatouille made animated food look freaking delicious and Turning Red borrowed from Bao to make lettuce look appetizing. Even virtual reality is a reality at Disney! All of these individual elements lend themselves to less time devoted to creating the programs to create the art and give the animators more time to just do the creative work. Btw you gotta admit that Finding Dory and Raya and the Last Dragon had the most beautiful, realistic and exquisitely animated water ever in an animated movie. And for hair animation it's definitely Encanto as it's the first Disney animated movie to represent all the hair textures from 1A to 4C

3D animation is ok, but they're doing it for everything now. Needs to go back to 2D, it was more magical
