Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone was Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint s first major role that shaped so many childhoods around the world. In this video, we ll be talking about the magic behind the set.
Did you know they used a ton of actual locations from places like England and Scotland? They used a combination of real-life, historic locations, practical set building, CGI, and animation to bring this film to life. J. K. Rowling had a vision for what she wanted Hogwarts to look like, so the crew traveled all over England to find churches and historic buildings to match it. Luckily for them, there are tons of buildings like that in England, so they didn t have a hard time finding them. There was also a real, practical model of the Hogwarts Castle built by a team of eighty-six artists and crew members.
It was used for a variety of different shots and blended together with CGI. One of the major locations particularly Platform 9, was shot at King s Cross Station. This train station holds a lot of significance for J. K. Rowling because that s where her parents met for the first time. It makes sense that this would be the start of Harry Potter s magical journey.
That is one of the many train stations utilized in the making of this iconic film.
