I think Ainz and Tanya need to switch places. Ainz is definitely evil but he only goes extra if he is disrespected such as thieves invading his home or a troll calling him a coward. If Ainz is respected or appropriately feared, he can be very merciful in his own way. Even to his enemies if they recognize his strength such as ending their suffering instantly. He also has respect for skilled warriors. He used an instant death spell against Gazaf in their duel. When he fought against Clementine who was stronger than Gazaf, Ainz didn t bother using magic on her and just crushed her to death, this shows that he didn t need to use magic against Gazaf but choice to out of respect. Everyone Ainz does is for his kingdom and the people who worship him.
This is how Tanya is different. Tanya could care a rat s ass if a person respects her. If they are an enemy, she will kill them brutally. She has no respect for other s beliefs due to her hatred towards god. Unlike Ainz who didn t take Gazaf s sword due to keeping his word, Tanya stole a guy s gift from his daughter as a Christmas present.
Ainz treats the floor guardians as they were his children and only punishes them if they fail a mission though the punishment isn t usually too harsh. Tanya only sees her soliders as just that and she will humiliate them if they don t meet up to her high standards. She is also only considered about getting herself to live an easy live and doesn t actually care about the well being of the Fatherland.
To put it shortly, Ainz and Tanya are both very evil. However, Ainz is still fair and understanding while Tanya is heartless and cruel.
Also, in Isekai Quartet, while Ainz and Tanya do get along well, Tanya does make Ainz nervous.
Just a fun fact I wanted to share.

Ainz isn t evil he s an idiot who s servants are evil and misunderstand everything he wants and them being on the evil scale of the dnd morality scale causes the evil to happen, Ainz is also neutral as his build cancels all his emotions. Tanya is a rule follower who wants to live a simple life away from the battlefield her superiors and God just make sure that never happens as God is using her to unite humanity and bring more faith in him.

Tanya is less evil and more a victim of circumstance, literally being bullied because they don't believe in God, even told they won't be reincarnated anymore, nothing left to lose and anything she gains is ripped away from her, even forced to pray just to stay in the game, so naturally everyone else's lives are inconsequential, it's ashame nobody sticks around to understand it and just labels her killer loli nazi, people be ignorant

The amount of people that try to justify Light and Eren's actions and not calling then out for what they are worries me sometimes lmfao
Both were great villians to their story though, that's undebatable
Edit: Isayama's biggest mistake was not fully commiting to turning Eren into the villian and making it so that he knew that he was going to be stopped by the Alliance

When we saw Light as a protagonist in the beginning, but we just find out he wanted to play god.
He later comes out to be our antagonist. This Anime is a bit more straightforward than Eren's backstory.
I've watched a couple of the episodes, but the psychological impact in the past kind of made me stop watching.
I suppose I'll return to watching it.

In the first three seasons, Eren s Titan was cool, but then they (Isayama) go and ruin it by making it all ugly and deformed in the final season. 2-D animation was better, though admittedly the story is the perfect example of the phrase:
If it ain t broke, don t fix it. and the final season/final two story arcs were just ugh.

You could definitely say Ainz Ooal Gown is evil, but it s more like he has no empathy for humans and will gladly massacre them by the tens of thousands to achieve his goals. But he s very caring to his NPC that he and his friends created personally. He treats his subordinates lovingly as his friends children.

Sheesh, I had no idea there were so many anime out there with evil protagonists. I was expecting Happy Sugar Life to be on here. Well I can cross off all those series off my list of anime I ve yet to see. I like action, but I mostly enjoy them with comedy and not with that much evil.

Ainz. what the Hell did anyone think was going to happen? He got incarnated in the reality of his MMO setting, all right. as a LICH! If you don't think that that would rot your soul over time, you need to be dope slapped by every issue of Hellsing until you get the memo.

Umaru isn't really evil, she's just freaking annoying but my favorite evil protagonist is most definitely Ainz. I mean c'mon look at him. He's freaking awesome. Who doesn't like him? What about villain Deku? He's considered an evil protagonist and he's still very much likable

I think I will add a two more:
Tatsuya Shiba from The Irregular at Magic High School. Whatever you do, do not harm his sister.
Hajime Nagumo from Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest. He will kill anyone who prevents him from going home to earth.

I think eren yeager had a reason to do what he did, but I don t think he s evil. He s just trying to protect everyone on his homeland. I don t think he counts as evil or a villain. I d say someone is more willing to take necessary risks.

Eren's grind down from idealistic freedom wanting hero to jaded tyrant with extermination on his mind is quite the jarring change ever put to a protagonist. It shows what such a world can do especially since he was already unstable.

Does Index from A Certain Magical Index actually count? She's really annoying, she's whiny and seems to be constantly making Touma's life difficult, both intentionally and accidentally. Can almost match Umaru if you ask me.

It can be debated that Ymir has too much control over Eldians to the point she has removed choice in some aspects. Eren is essentially a slave to Ymir. He is basically in a dramatic simulation.

Alucard is like one of the best examples of Chaotic Good I've ever seen. Yeah he's evil but he is still fighting on the side of good (though purely by Interga's orders who he is extremely loyal to lol)

Sometimes not every protagonist can be kind, brave, loving or heroic. We all must realize that in certain cases, they can be villainous. The reason why just depends on their circumstances.
