we’re counting down our picks for the most notable cases where stars primarily known for good-natured/heroic roles went against type to play villainous characters. Our countdown of wholesome actors who took on evil roles includes Elijah Wood, Tom Hanks, Heath Ledger, and more! Did we forget another memorable villain turn Denzel has done a few truly evil roles. Training Day, American Gangster and He Got Game come quickly to mind. He might be at his most evil in He Got Game. The fact that his character would kill his wife and then use his son as a tool to get out of prison. Thats an evil man, especially the way he goes about convincing him. I think Training Day gets more attention than the other two because it won him an Oscar. He truly shows that he has immense range and can easily play either side.

My addition: Michael Crawford. In his younger years, he often played wholesome characters like the White Rabbit in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (the 1972 movie) and Cornelius in Hello Dolly, then in the 80s, he played the Phantom of the Opera in the musical of the same name. I actually knew about his role as the Phantom first, so I had the opposite experience and felt like I was tripping seeing the actor of the Phantom in a bunny suit xD

I didn't know it was possible for Elijah Wood to be scary. He doesn't feel pain.
2: 12 That injury on his hand is real.
3: 18 Greedo did not shoot first or at all.
5: 50 Glory was a good movie. KING KONG AINT GOT SHIT ON ME!
I want to see Insomnia. Robin Williams is surprisingly creepy and can get under your skin. Robin Williams wanted to be the Joker once. I'd like to see that.
Let's put a smile on that face!

Better known to an older generation, Andy Griffith is best known for playing wholesome characters mostly on television, but early in his career he played sociopathic radio and TV personality named Larry Lonesome Rhodes in the movie A Face in the Crowd alongside sympathetic characters played by Patricia Neal and Walter Mathau. This is absolutely not the Andy everyone knew for most of his career.

Even though I’m able to separate actors from their roles! I feel those evil roles these actors play ruined them emotionally. Robin Williams as Sy Parish in One Hour Photo and Death to Smoochy said was too creepy for him and said he refused to let his family see those movies. Heath Ledger had a breakdown because of the Dark Knight, along with Joaquin Phoenix who was method acting in Joker.

Jack Black as Bowser (never thought I would think The Guy who Voiced a Kung Fu Fat Panda be so Terrifying, Bowser was one of those Villains that he can do Silly Things but that doesn’t make him less Threatening, the one I always remember is Bowser slammed The Lid of a Piano on Kamek’s Fingers and just leave him there and saying Pain is The Best Teacher)

John Travolta, Broken Arrow. i know he have done more since then. but as a kid seeing him in stuff like grease and look whos talking shooked me the moment he turned in broken arrow. and i didnt knew anything about the movie at all. movies was better when you knew nothing going in. trailers ruins most movies.

They all had great villain roles but Keanu Reeves had a villain role in Man of Tai Chi, he was something else when Keanu did this movie a businessman in Hong Kong who hosted illegal and deadly fights for profit. I recommend watching Man of Tai Chi, it's a great fighting movie that needs attention.

Speaking of Robin Williams, he was said to have been Joker in Tim Burton's Batman, but Jack Nicholson.
And if Tim Burton had stayed for Batman Forever, he would've liked to have played Riddler.
And finally, Williams had expressed on playing Gendo Ikari in a Live Action Evangelion.

I have a family connection to The Road to Perdition. The Paul Newman character was based on a real Mobster leader, John Loomey. My father used to deliver liquor to prohibition speak easy that paid money to Loomey for deliveries and protection.

Robin Williams in Insomnia I always said thats prove that Robin would've made a great batman villain if he'd had the chance it also forshadowed another of my favorite roles of his Merrit Rook on the 200th episode of Law&Order SVU

I might’ve been aware of Heath Ledger’s Patrick Verona in _10 Things I Hate About You, _ but his turn as Joker in _The Dark Knight_ gave me 10 reasons to love the latter movie, including the interrogation sequence.

John Cena as Peacemaker (he’s more a Anti-Hero especially in his TV Show but he was a Psychopath who will kill anyone to get what he wants, even Rick Flag who he just go Mortal Kombat X-Ray on his Heart)

Personally, I love Robim Williams, and he was wonderfull actor.
But I'm glad he didn't play a villian too often.
He also played a villian on Law and Order SVU, and was very scary in those episodes.

Robin Williams was such a likable actor, and he played villainous characters convingingly well. My child self was shocked when he played a straight up bad guy in August Rush, a far cry from Mrs Doubtfire.

It’s been over 16 years.
As longtime cinephiles and comic book fans alike can’t get enough of Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker in The Dark Knight. ’
May he rest in peace

It isn’t a well known role, but Burt Young’s role as the brutal disciplinarian father in Amityville 2 was a much darker role for him. He is best known for playing Paulie in the Rocky franchise.
